Neighbour HATES my dog!

1000 replies

Canecorsomummy · 08/08/2024 19:20

Hi everyone!

I’ve lived in my house for over 9 years now, have owned a poodle cross for 8 of those years. April last year I got a Cane Corso puppy, spoke to this certain neighbour informing her, gave her my number and told her if there was any problems with barking etc, especially if I’m not home, then go please let me know so I can resolve it but she has done nothing but cause me problems ever since.

Last year I was taking rubbish to the bins and the CC followed me out and was being fussed over by my neighbour on the other side of my house. 24 hours later the other neighbour put a computer typed letter through my letterbox stating the car park is not a place to walk a dog, it is illegal for her not to be on a lead and if she sees it happening again she is going to report me for having a out of control dog and her being a dangerous breed!! I sent her a text message explaining the law very basically for her and explaining under no circumstances will she be putting notes through my letterbox over something which could be dealt with by an adult conversation.

Well, since April this year she has made numerous reports to RSPCA claiming I’m neglecting her, abusing her and now a report to Social Services claiming I’m not only neglecting my CC, but she is a dangerous breed and I have a young child in my home!

I have absolutely had enough now!! My back door is normally open 24 hours as I have an enclosed garden but I’m petrified to allow the dog to be able to go in and out at her free will because of this neighbour, petrified I’m going to be approached by rspca/police when I’m out walking her ….

I just don’t know what to do now.

@Canecorsomummy I have been following this thread and started with some sympathy for you, but you have come across as petty, argumentative and self-righteous in a lot of your posts. Your neighbour sounds like a busy-body, but you seem to be lacking any empathy whatsoever.

You seem to be choosing to ignore the fact that the breed of dog you have CHOSEN to house (despite framing it as the dog 'came to you') has received a significant amount of negative news coverage describing violent attacks, some of which have been against small children. You have a small child in your home. Some people (myself included) would question your judgement and given the choice, would prefer not to have this type of animal living in close proximity to their home. Some people (your neighbour) would go several steps further and report you to the authorities. I am not saying this is right, but I think one of your biggest issues here is failing to see the situation from the perspective of others. It is not irrational to be frightened that an animal that looks similar to banned breeds, and whose breed has been in the news for violent attacks, is now living next door to you.

I'm not exactly sure what the purpose of this thread is, since you seem to know better than everyone else. My only practical advice would be to report the neighbour for harassment, and let the authorities deal with it (this would appear to be the approach she is taking). I would have recommended having an adult conversation with her to understand her concerns but based on your responses here, I'm not sure you're capable of doing this.

There is also a TYPE of person who owns such a beast, and we ALL know it
@YoureNotFromBrighton
I agree.
Personality traits of these types include extreme arrogance and inability to consider the feelings and concerns of others.
That's why such types are attracted to dogs, why they find them much easier than humans to get on with. You don't have to consider the opinions of a dog, you don't have to come up with a good argument, the dog will always obey you because you are the one that's feeding it.
(Obviously some dogs do over turn the power structure by killing and eating their owners)

For everyone comparing this dog to an XL bully, read the following links. They sound like a loyal and extremely trainable dog, and from what OP has written, it sounds like her CC is very well trained.

https://www.weenect.com/us/en/guide/dog-breeds/cane-corso/

And this article from murphylawyer.com

https://murphylawyer.com/are-cane-corsos-dangerous/

Comparing Cane Corsos to Other Breeds
When compared to other guard dog breeds, Cane Corsos are often misunderstood due to their calmer temperament and higher excitability threshold. These qualities make them less likely to bark or exhibit aggressive behaviors in confrontational situations compared to some breeds, such as Rottweilers, leading to a common misconception about their level of danger.
The truth is, Cane Corsos are no more dangerous than any other breed when properly trained and socialized, and labeling cane corso dogs dangerous is an unfair generalization. Their calm temperament can actually be an advantage, making them less reactive and more manageable than some other large breeds.
The key is understanding and respecting the breed’s unique characteristics. Whereas some breeds may be more suitable as energetic companions or lap dogs, the Cane Corso is originally bred as a working dog, guard dog, and loyal family companion. Understanding this can help set realistic expectations and promote responsible ownership.

I agree that cane corso are generally far less worrying to be around than XL bullies but those dog descriptions aren’t entirely trustworthy.

Pitbulls are generally described as good family pets for starters!

A lot of what are currently being advertised as cane corso in the UK are backyard bred cross breeds that look vaguely corso-ish, so the general public still need to be wary of them.

ChaChaChooey · 10/08/2024 14:04

I just had a look at the free ad site to see what current cane corso listings were up and this may be one of the most ominous dog ads I’ve ever seen!

At least the (female) seller isn’t pretending it’s ’no fault of his own’ that the dog needs rehoming!

Surely the seller is kidding themselves if they think someone will pay £300 for this animal, it's a complete liability!

sunglassesonthetable · 10/08/2024 14:28

Couldn't you have found a worse picture @ChaChaChooey ?

I agree that cane corso are generally far less worrying to be around than XL bullies but those dog descriptions aren’t entirely trustworthy.

But the worst kind of free ad is ???? A classic example of a bad OWNER.

And here we have a GOOD owner. And they asked a question and then gets pages of aggression and attack for something else.

Including personal attacks and told they are "TYPE of person " implying something quite vile and we all know what.

Good on OP for robustly defending herself against the mob.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/08/2024 14:30

The funniest attack was a poster telling OP off for not describing a Range Rover/Land Rover correctly.

That's how pathetic it has all got.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/08/2024 14:33

And I bet the RSPCA is sick to death with this neighbour.

If OP didn’t leave her back door open 24/7 I might be more inclined to believe she’s a responsible owner.

You dismissing a positive description of a CC out of hand, yet pulling up an awful free ads descriptor.

Nah you're not going to agree to anything.

@ChaChaChooey

LilBowWow · 10/08/2024 15:28

The OP has been harangued from page one. Every answer twisted to suit the question asker’s narrative. Her sanity questioned. Barbed digs at her parenting skills. And now you’re moaning she isn’t very nice? The majority of you just want to stick the boot in. Ill-informed, condescending and hypocritical.

If you're going to tell people details matter and then use cars as an analogy for dogs, get the details right.

Oh well, I typed cars twice. You got me. Well done. Excellent debating skills.

Respect you more than @sunglassesonthetable and their passive aggressive shots.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/08/2024 15:35

And then there was the

"But you clip your dog to the lead!!"

"But you walk your dog off lead!!!"

And

"But you spoke to her about your dog!"

( of course it would have been " but you didn't speak to her about your dog !"

And

"So you are known to social services!"

sunglassesonthetable · 10/08/2024 15:37

@IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos oh give over. What are you talking about??😂

it doesn't take balls. You you just have to rember to do it.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/08/2024 15:39

Respect you more than @sunglassesonthetable and their passive aggressive shots.

I need to take lessons from you tbh. This thread is a literal guide book.

@IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos

Land Rover/Range Rover 😂😂😂

sunglassesonthetable · 10/08/2024 15:41

And no @IpsyUpsyDaisyDoos I hadn't noticed your typo.

sunglassesonthetable · 10/08/2024 15:43

not taking debating notes from you.
