Can I have a hand hold please? My 7 month old Labrador puppy is in surgery. She had major surgery yesterday to remove an intestinal blockage and she's taken poorly again today. Things look bleak and I am in pieces

Hand held. I’m so sorry, what caused it? Has the vet spoken to you? Are you able to see your pup?

Frenchfemme · 19/05/2024 14:47

Sending love and hugs for you and your lovely girl.

Unluckycat1 · 19/05/2024 14:56

Oh gosh OP I'm sorry, big hugs x

GuppytheCat · 19/05/2024 15:15

Oh goodness, poor you and poor pup. Foreign body? Our similar-age nutter is forever trying to eat things she shouldn't -- it just takes a split second of bad luck.

ElizabethanAgain · 19/05/2024 15:18

Hand holding. I'm so sorry. Good luck puppy and OP.

Fingers crossed! Hope she's okay!

CoffeeAndPeanuts · 19/05/2024 15:31

sending Pup very good wishes for successful surgery & recovery!

it amazing what the little buggers will eat, practically whole!

I look after my friends lab a lot (he's nearly 3 now, but have done since he first came home). If it's not nailed down he'll eat it!

he scares me at times!

he sends his love 🐾 ❤️ 🐾

Thanks so much. Waiting for a phone call. Trying so hard to find a balance between being hopeful and getting my hopes up as every phonecall today has been bad news.

Yes it was a foreign body (well several) and they had to make 4 incisions in her intestine. Desperately hopeful as my 3 DC will be in pieces. She was a birthday gift for my 8 yo DD and she's brought us so much joy after a very hard 2 years. We left our family home and my abusive marriage 2 years ago and have been trying to rebuild our lives. Our old dog died in bed next to DD and I last year.

Please send every positive thought you can for my lovely dog

Oh no. Fingers crossed for you.

Does she have an infection?

Mindblownawaybyfog · 19/05/2024 15:40

Our husky ate a flip flop one summer... Just the pink toe post bit left on the decking!!
Watching The Yorkshire Vet saw lots of such surgeries op. Fingers crossed here for your lovely pooch....

LittleMissSleepyUK · 19/05/2024 18:10

Praying your pup is ok xx

CoffeeAndPeanuts · 19/05/2024 21:42

Just checking in to see how DPup is doing?!

It must have been a terrible shock at the time, but actually a beautiful way for you 'old dog' to go, 💕

Countrygirlxo · 19/05/2024 21:49

Hope she's okay 🙏🏼

oakleaffy · 20/05/2024 00:33

Hope your dog has come through today's operation..
It's such a worry when they are ill or do something daft.

My puppy leapt out of an upper window while I was hoovering.

My scream of shock as I saw a fawn arc leap over the sill to the gloom below brought both neighbours out.

I got downstairs as fast as possible to see her on the garden path- walking.

She had landed on a Wisteria bush that was springy and broke her fall.

Vet said she was extremely lucky not to have broken her legs.

We had a cat that used to eat rubber silicone toy snakes and felt Christmas tree birds and vomit them up - so cats can do this as well.

graystoon82 · 20/05/2024 05:59

Thanks so much everyone. She made it out of surgery, which is great, but the vet gave the caveat that it's 'still not good news' 😞
The next 3 days are crucial and it's likely she won't make it.

I've been praying to a god I don't believe in but I'm not sure what else to do. Trying to ask the children to have hope but be realistic is really hard. Please send your hopes to my lovely little dog, I want her back 💔

Paws crossed for your lovely dog - I really hope you get some better news soon Flowers

ElizabethanAgain · 20/05/2024 09:10

So worrying for you. All my love to you and your pup. ❤️

oakleaffy · 20/05/2024 10:06

She made it through the operation- St Francis of Assisi was the Saint we prayed to when my friend’s dog was hanging in the balance. (Freak accident)
In desperate times, one does tend to Pray.

The skills of an experienced Vet, Exemplary nursing care are vital. They will be doing their utmost to save her.
