Is this a full breed chihuahua?

My friend paid quite a lot of money for this puppy and she said its a full chihuahua with no papers. She said its part Russian Toy chihuahua? I was just wondering what people think as to me it looks like a mixed breed. Not full chihuahua? Not that it matters in the dog itself, he's lovely and healthy. But in the context of what she paid and was told I think it's relevant.

Russian toys and chihuahuas are two separate breeds, so if she was told it’s a mixture then by definition it’s not a full anything. This definitely looks nothing like a pure chihuahua, and it sounds as if your friend has fallen victim to one of the many, many, many dodgy breeders or dealers out there. Very likely that this puppy came from some sort of unsavoury background. On the upside, it looks healthy and is less likely to have certain problems than a pure breed chihuahua, as its head is a less distorted shape.

Well the pup can't be a full anything if its part something it's a mix breed like a "sproker" spaniel. .

If it didn't come with papers, there's very little chance it's a full breed. Plus, it's very obviously not, looking at it.

Cute little thing though. I'd happily ruffle those ears all day.

It was her friend who bred it. On online friend.

She paid £800.
My chihuahua with KC papers was 900 😐

No definitely not.I have them and that is definitely mixed.Gorgeous though and it doesn't matter anyway.

Deerhead and apple head are the two types of chihuahua which can come in long and short-haired varieties

That dog is gorgeous and better looking than a chihuahua in any case. But yes clearly not a chihuahua.

Yes, I looked too. He looks a lot like some of the photos in the wiki on Russian Toys - which were derived from English Toy Terriers.

Your friend appears to have been misled, OP, but in this case looks does like a lovely dog.

Mind you re her being misled... it takes about 30 seconds of googling to find that a dog can't possibly be a full chihuahua and also 'part Russian toy chihuahua' so it really doesn't seem like she remotely did due diligence finding her pup.

Well, I suppose if 'Russian toy chihuahua' actually existed and was a type of chihuahua then it might make sense. Like eg a dog could be a 'full dachshund' if it's parents were a shorthaired and a wire haired or a standard bitch and mini sire - but I don't think it'd be a KC recognised breed so wouldn't have pedigree papers.

But it doesn't exist.

Yes. She thought he was 2 versions of a chihuahua, so a full chi, just with big ears.

I've said to her he's a mix and she says yes, a mix of chihuahuas but full chihuahua.

She lives him and he's healthy, that's all that matters but she's definitely not got a full chi as she was told.

Whatever he is, he is really really cute!
I have a big bunch Labrador and he loves chihuahuas and sausage dogs. They chase him round the park and it's so funny to watch, with his huge lanky legs and the tiny dogs in pursuit!

It's just proof of linage. And shows that every dog in the history was also KC registered.

Lots of people have pedigree dogs that aren't registered. Doesn't make any difference.

I've never even look at mines papers. She's a pet

Nothing like a sprocker, this is a cross between two different breeds. A sprocker is a cross between a cocker and a springer, which until 1982 were the same anyway and smaller pups in a litter was cockers and the larger were springers. It is a spaniel x spaniel cross, unlike your cockerpoos etc and is 100% spaniel. Sprockers have intentionally been bred to work since the 40s and are excellent little dogs. I'm biased obviously as I have one and he is a cracking working dog.
Nothing wrong with a crossed pup anyway OP, it'll be healthier than a purebred. Anyway it's 100% dog 😂
