No more Wilko treats...what now?

IsItHotAgainTomorrow · 11/09/2023 22:44

DDog has been getting treats from Wilko...the ones that are dried duck or chicken etc, which he likes. Wilko are now going belly-up, so I have a problem.

A huge number of the packs of treats that I pick up have so many ingredients that they would be regarded as ultra-processed if they were intended for humans

Any recommendations for treats that are entirely (or very largely) 'real' ingredients?

Thanks

Have you got a local raw pet food shop? We buy bulk tracheas and meaty pieces chicken feet etc, the dog loves it ( us not so much!) much less additives than the packaged stuff.

Every single pet shop I've ever been in has sold natural dog treats.

JRPetPRoducts is a good online option though.

Newpeep · 12/09/2023 07:40

Loads of options. Nurturing by nature are very good. Their treat box is excellent value.

Dogeria is another I use.

I also use my independent pet shops. They all stock natural treats which you can buy singly. Natural treats last ages so you can bulk buy.

I’m gutted about their dog poo bags and have yet to find an alternative as good as their own brand red ones.

IHeartGeneHunt · 12/09/2023 08:11

Lidl do chicken/duck fillet treats, they're almost exactly the same as the Wilko ones.

TK Maxx sell great poo bags!

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 12/09/2023 08:24

naturaltreatswholesale is good. But obviously involve buying in bulk.
ALDIs middle isle sometimes do good stuff

IHateWasps · 12/09/2023 08:25

I get natural salmon and duck treats from B&M.

IHateWasps · 12/09/2023 08:25

And yes dried duck and chicken fillets from Lidl.

I buy pet munchies duck strips, get them delivered in my weekly shop from Ocado. TK Maxx often sell them for less.

IHateWasps · 12/09/2023 08:29

And if anyone's in or around Penrith, Rusty's treatbox is a great little shops for dog treats in Penrith. They sell some via Ebay too. No I don't know the owner I promise but she was very nice and sold a great selection of natural treats while I was there last month.

Me too. You can get them in bulk from Amazon too.

Lidl is your best bet. Others are suggesting options but they are all £££ more than wilko. I don't have one near me now but I used to shop for all the household stuff at wilko where I used to live and dog supplies

I don't know what Wilkos charged but I don't find B&M to be expensive.

My dogs treats are part of her meal allowances as she is only 6.5 Kg so I want to feed good quality not treats full of things quite honestly dogs don't need.

I use JR pate for training classes which is the only thing I would class as pricey but it's clean, high value and again, part of her meals.

I don't think any of the options listed are particularly expensive for what they are.

As an aside I never knew Lidl sold natural dog treats!

dizzyupthegirl86 · 12/09/2023 09:07

My dog loved the peanut butter bites from there, they were the only thing that got her to go outside after bonfire night!

alpinia · 12/09/2023 09:22

My dog goes nuts for the treats from Treats2sit4 also all natural.

tizwozliz · 12/09/2023 09:58

My dogs really liked these

https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-best-salmon-strips-dog-treats-90g/p/0431490

I've not seen anything similar (they're soft not crunchy)

They also liked the finest duck fillets, these were much cheaper than what we can get elsewhere (£17.19 per kg v £25 per kg at pets at home). The pet munchies mentioned up thread are about 35 quid a kilo.

I'm realising that I've never been in a Wilkos and now never will. I'm wondering what I've been missing out on.

Do Lidl do treats that are just dried meat?

tizwozliz · 12/09/2023 10:22

Our B&M doesn't seem to carry any of that range unfortunately.

andrainwillmaketheflowersgrow · 12/09/2023 11:49

Personally I wouldn't touch any dog treats from B&M - I've heard too many horror stories over the years about recalled treats or treats found to be totally unsafe for dogs.

IsItHotAgainTomorrow · 13/09/2023 23:55

Thanks everyone for the suggestions, very helpful. I didnt know Lidl did treats similar to Wilko, I will look harder next time I am in.

'Every single pet shop I've ever been in has sold natural dog treats'....OK thanks for that...I cant remember when I was in one last. His (raw) 'main' meals are delivered frozen from 'Natures Menu', and the treats from Wilko. The ones I had seen that had long ingredient lists were on the shelves of Tesco/Sainsbury/Asda etc and a smattering of garden centres.
