My dog achieved a long strived for personal goal on Tuesday

For most of his life, after he has been fed by one family member, he has tried to convince other family members that he hasn't had dinner yet. We've had him for 12 years so you'd think he would have given it up as a lost cause by now. On Tuesday DH fed him about half an hour early because he had to take DD to football training. However he didn't mention it to me. So bang on dinner time (the dog has the best internal clock of anyone I know) the dog asked for dinner and I fed him. Grin

I would normally have checked with DH, but because he'd left half an hour before dinner time and because DH knew I was in the house I assumed that he had assumed that I'd do it.

The dog has since re-doubled his efforts, because if it worked once ... Grin

Photo, because that's obligatory, right?

I love this! 😂 ♥

sittingonacornflake · 08/09/2023 13:34

Too cute

pickledandpuzzled · 08/09/2023 13:35

Well done, @sugardog!

Pickledog applauds you!

Pickledog however has different goals in life. He likes his grapes peeled, his food popped in his mouth at intervals, just the correct temperature. Too cold and it's spat out. Too warm and it's soft so sort of falls out. ConfusedBlush

TidyDancer · 08/09/2023 13:35

Oh he is gorgeous! And deserves double dinner servings just for being that cute!

boomtickhouse · 08/09/2023 13:36

Our dog does this allllll the time. And it works far too often so no chance she'll stop

ReeseWitherfork · 08/09/2023 13:38

Your dog has played that very well.

I’ve had occasion where I’ve fed my dog, and he’s looked at me like I’m fucking mental, so I’ll call DH and check, and it’ll be because he’s already been fed. He doesn’t seem to trust double dinner.

FoodFann · 08/09/2023 13:39

Persistence pays off!

Garihairy · 08/09/2023 13:40

Brilliant 😍

MrsFairweather · 08/09/2023 13:44

🤣🤣 Our dogs had an amazing body clock. They always knew when it was 6pm even if we had changed our routine or had visitors they knew when it was time to be fed!

FuckingHellAdele · 08/09/2023 13:54

That's a life lesson right there. Hard work, persistence and sheer bloody mindedness pays off in the end.

Well played that dog 👏

Medlady · 08/09/2023 13:55

He looks canny!

Foggyfoggyfoggy · 08/09/2023 14:04

Not being THAT poster but grapes are toxic to ddogs....

Hotchick1972 · 08/09/2023 14:05

Superb work!

Okki · 08/09/2023 14:17

Our Ddog was at Grandma's for the day. He went complete with his dinner. He came home at 'told' all of us in turn that he hadn't been fed. We checked more than once with my poor Mum. So very big well done from our little woof to yours.

No panic, it's just a turn of phrase round here for being extremely high maintenance.

To be fair, he hadn't had his dinner in his house! Yes, he had a big snack at grandma's but that's not the same as his diner in his house! 😆

I’m ridiculously proud of a dog I’ve never met for preserving with this and accomplishing his goal. What a legend.

HardcoreLadyType · 08/09/2023 14:28

We work from home and our dog will often come in to the home office about 1/2 an hour before we finish with an excited/hopeful air about him. Or he’ll mess around with my rubbish bin.

The thing is, I only ever feed him if DH will not be there (to avoid him having double
dinners) but he never comes and annoys DH, who does feed him, only me, who doesn’t.

He is a bit thick, but we love him, nonetheless.

TaigaSno · 08/09/2023 14:29

This is such a cute story, and what a beautiful doggy!

Azaeleasinbloom · 08/09/2023 14:31

Gorgeous dog. My labs would be in awe of this level of achievement 😂

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 08/09/2023 14:31

Yeah but, DH is reliable and feeds him all the time. You are the unknown quantity who has to be reminded as you only do it occasionally! He's cleverer than you think!

SpanielsMatter · 08/09/2023 14:36

Lol smart dog

And I bet you really enjoy it when the clocks go forward/ back…. Explaining daylight saving and the effect upon dinner to canine family members never works ime.
