LL's now fallen on her sword or been pushed, and "stepped away" from AD. Tom has issued a statement on behalf of AD distancing himself and the business and saying he was only vaguely aware of the breeding (which sits oddly with litters from the same bitch being registered alternately as Devongems and Tom's kennel name, but hey) and wasn't her vet.

I hope the RCVS investigate him

“COI is only one measure of health of a dog BUT I'd argue once you go over 12.5 then it's really only going to be too big a risk, no matter what health tests you perform”

Of course it’s only one measure, but 27% - meaning more inbred than breeding with its own parent or full sibling, just by itself should horrify people…

Yes. That is what I have said. Under 12.5 should be taken in context. Above that it's inbreeding and nothing more really.

I am not an expert - my current dog is my first pedigree and one from a breeder but I know breeders and people who show and they would not push the COI that high even to maintain a line. It's not in the breeds best interest and most people who breed for particular traits love the breed.

I wasn’t arguing with you btw, in case it read like that... just still going...

27%!!! Ooft

Cockerdileteeth · 10/08/2023 20:22

I've also been going 27% OMFG but I've just had a nosey into my 4% COI boy's family tree and jeez... once you get more than 3 generations back there's a good few dogs lurking in there who could have given the Targaryens a run for their money in their day.

Exhibit A Maesyderwynn Sorceror - product of a grandfather/granddaughter mating, COI 29%, father of 60 odd litters;
Exhibit B a popular Timsgarry stud dog, sired 50+ litters, product of an uncle/niece mating with a COI of 27%.
These are both within the last 20 years, both field trial champion dogs from well regarded big names lines in the gundog world.
Exhibit C Sandford Black Mamba who sired so many puppies he seems to be in just about every WCS pedigree somewhere, must be about 100 litters, product of aunt/nephew mating, COI 26.94%.

I'm not defending her, but plenty of other people have been line breeding. I don't see how the popular sire effect, or a lot of breeding of such closely related individuals, can be a good thing for the gene pool in a breed or its long term health but...lots of people do do it.

ferretface · 10/08/2023 21:44

My dog is a collie and his COI is 2.6% Vs a breed average of 3.1% - maybe that's to do with the way the breed evolved and the existence of ISDS registration as demonstration of working potential vs kennel club. But tbh I think KC registration encourages bad behaviours in breeders, we certainly were aware of collies being offered by a breeder who is also a KC judge who gave strong puppy farm vibes and we wouldn't have felt comfortable buying a dog from him (to be clear this is unrelated to Absolute Dogs). I don't think that KC registration means anything other than the dog has a verifiable pedigree.

What's the breed average COI for working cocker spaniels?

Wheresthebeach · 11/08/2023 10:01

On the Facebook page they've obviously set up auto decline for comments using the word 'puppy' (two comments from me saying they need to be honest about numbers of puppies being bred declined, then tried with 'young dogs' and it got through). Trying to shut down the conversation about numbers is terrible, and only raises more questions. I guess their plan is to wait it out, delete threads, and sell to newbies while having the faithful bang the drums on the Facebook account.

Its a shame, if they'd handled this differently then I might of stayed. Games based training and the access on line was great, as was the Facebook group.

FatNoMoreSue · 11/08/2023 10:55

It’s absolute bollocks that Tom was unaware of all this. She was using his affix! Bloody weasel.

They should be spending some of their millions on good disaster PR advice because they're making a right hash of this. If Tom thinks he can save the AD brand by throwing Lauren under the bus, he's mistaken.

They must think their clients are really thick.

FatNoMoreSue · 11/08/2023 11:26

Oh well if AD hit the skids at least in time the agility classes round my way might not be so full of people going “SOO-PAH!” at their dogs 😒

What is wrong with just weaves? 😂

I taught the pup to nose target a Pringle lid. I cued it lid. Told not very agility. So I changed it to Pringle. Hips on arms and scowl. So it’s now target. How boring 😂

Cockerdileteeth · 11/08/2023 13:45

I thought this captured the PR campaign quite well

Absolute Dogs
IngGenius · 11/08/2023 14:06

I love lid Smile way better than target

I am full of imagination so A for A frame. DW for dog walk!

See for seesaw as usually to breathless to say seesaw

No idea why but poles makes me cringe when people say use it for weavERS sorry weaves Smile

When I say right I always mean left my dogs now know this
When I say left I always mean right they are getting very good at working this out

Despite all of this two have still made it to grade 7. Proves the point that non of them really listen to me anyway they just read the numbers

FatNoMoreSue · 11/08/2023 14:23

None of these are as annoying as people who use a fake American accent though.

”Good GURRRRRL!”
”Good JAAAAHB!”

This was the worst kept secret in agility, my first agility trainer worked for them and they were so abusive towards her. She had a close family member die, they didn't care they still wanted her to take classes she was massively underqualified to give in the first place.

When she left they did their upmost to bully her into staying and when they didn't they tried to destroy her reputation.

The overbreeding, cross breeding with dachshunds for the shorter legs is also well known. She wants to keep her spaniels in small, which is why the spaniels she breeds are so small and long.

She keeps them in poor conditions, doesn't allow puppy owners to meet parents or even see where they are raised. This is a massive red flag, no ethical breeder would do this.

I recently was parked next to her van at an agility show, the entire day those dogs were left to bark and scream anytime anyone came within metres of that van. The only time those dogs had any attention was when they were removed to be ran. Very sad existence for them.

Anyone defending them clearly is no true animal lover, she doesn't love her dogs they are just money making machines

Jesus cross bed with dachshunds? Now you mention it that makes sense in terms of their body shape.

If it was so well known why didn’t someone report them? Or is the regulation so crap that it’s difficult to report?

From the fb group messages I think there are a lot of people who just can’t believe she’d mistreat dogs…

Silisarah · 13/08/2023 12:19

Around 6-7 years ago there was a chap employed full time just to look after new puppies.
l have been saying this quietly to close friends for years but had no actual proof. So glad it has finally come to light.
Sadly it is all about £££££ there 🤬

EdithStourton · 19/08/2023 13:30

Over a week since this shit-show broke, and LL is STILL all over the Absolute Dogs page.

To be fair, changing everything on a website isn’t a quick job.

Also, I just don’t believe he knew nothing anyway, so what difference does it make
