Has anyone got one and can tell me about them?

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 28/03/2023 22:49

No. They’re not a breed.

ProbablyDogNappersHunX · 28/03/2023 22:50

"Teacup" anything is a marketing term, and points to a breeder who is more concerned about making the smallest possible dog for marketing purposes, regardless of health.

Hellocatshome · 28/03/2023 22:56

It won't be healthy, dont do it.

Pestispeeved · 28/03/2023 22:59

To get a tea cup, you breed the runt with a runt. My friend bought one and it lived to be nearly two.

coffeecupsandwaxmelts · 29/03/2023 00:15

No such thing.

Pencilsaremylife · 29/03/2023 00:24

Buy a toy stuffed dog if all you are interested in is how little and cute it looks, rather than whether it’s a healthy and happy animal.

CrinklyLoveStick · 29/03/2023 00:27

No. Get a beanie baby instead.

TheUsualChaos · 29/03/2023 00:30

Apart from the obvious immoral breeding issues, why anyone would want a dog so tiny is beyond me. I'd be scared of accidentally standing on it or something.

powershowerforanhour · 29/03/2023 00:32

Crappy eyes crappy teeth crappy dislocating kneecaps liitle twig legs way more fragile than a cat's, occasional hydrocephalus and ton of liver shunts.

In a nutshell.

BreviloquentBastard · 29/03/2023 00:34

You're buying a deliberate genetic failure that will live a short and unhealthy life.

Please just get a beanie baby or something.

TedMullins · 29/03/2023 00:35

No absolutely not. It’s incredibly cruel to breed chihuahuas so small that they’re basically deformed and come with a ton of health problems. Given that you don’t seem to have done any research perhaps a dog isn’t for you.

ErrolTheDragon · 29/03/2023 00:37

I found a site with pros and cons... I don't think it lists any pros at all vs a normal chihuahua and a ton of cons.

thehappypuppysite.com/teacup-chihuahua/

Kastri · 29/03/2023 00:37

Chihuahuas are a tiny breed in 'toy'group. They are perfect as they are,
do not consider one being sold as 'teacup'.There is no such category.
As someone already said,it's a term used by ignorant scummy breeders.

powershowerforanhour · 29/03/2023 00:44

If you want a Chi get a big one. Tall strong Chis with reasonably sensibly shaped heads are good dogs, and -probably not coincidentally- the biggest Chis I have seen have also been the nicest natured.

NotFromAroundThere · 29/03/2023 01:27

Please don't get a dog of any breed OP

Coyoacan · 29/03/2023 01:57

I live in Mexico and every second person has a chihuahua, but the toy chihuahuas have such fragile legs, I don't know about teacup, yuck

Toddlerteaplease · 29/03/2023 02:00

Rats on stilts. But I don't like chihuahuas anyway!

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 29/03/2023 06:49

It’s 2023 how are people still this ignorant,
it’s a genetic fuck up

Tontostitis · 29/03/2023 07:14

I've got a very small chihuahua. She just is small I dont think deliberately buying a 'teacup' is good you probably wont get what you paid for and quite frankly its not nice to encourage that type of breeding.
My girl is lovely but hard work. She always needs a safe space where she can hide, all the grandchildren are taught to leave her alone, not to pick her up, to wait for her to come to them which is very rare. she likes one granddaughter and avoids all the others.

Other dc are a nightmare as they will try to pick her up or fuss her. I spend 50%+ of walks carrying her as she is scared of other dogs, or wind, rustling bags and piles of leaves. I have to be quite alert and am constantly saying she's not friendly please leave her alone. Cafés are hard work as people approach her all the time. She gets cold very easily so sleeps under the covers with us and she sleeps a lot. She's much more like a cat than a dog and we can't go away without her staying with family.

CollieFIower · 29/03/2023 07:16

What is the point of this dog? Like, why would you be getting it? Just get a bloody guinea pig if you want something that fits in a teacup!

QOD · 29/03/2023 07:17

I have a normal chihuahua and she has the nicest nature and is really well behaved and trained. However, she’s had loads of teeth out, Pancreatitis and currently dieting as she popped her knee out 😢
they’re so delicate. I have no regrets but they’re just prone to this stuff

Just to add - I didn't know that they weren't pure - just thought it was their name. I am just looking for a small dog for my small home (plenty of garden for those keyboard warriors). I am at the beginning of my dog finding journey and will be researching and asking advice for a year before I make my decision.

My go-to in response to a question would never be so rude 😂 Makes me laugh how unnecessarily angry people are 😂 Get some therapy or take some happy pills 😊

Wow.

I suppose you could be even more rude to the posters, but then you have to try really hard!

BitOutOfPractice · 31/03/2023 06:03

Gosh you’re a delight op.

people were blunt. They needed to be.
