Who saw this in the news today 😎

Moonpig announced that they have stopped the sale of greetings cards featuring Brachycephalic dog breeds, specifically pugs and French bulldogs, due to animal welfare concerns www.dfordog.co.uk/blog/moonpig-cards-ban-flat-faced-dogs.html

That sounds a good move to me. The more people who know what problems these dogs face, the better.

What a fantastic idea. Hopefully people considering getting such a dog see this news and it makes them think twice. The more people who understand how abusive it is to support the breeding of such dogs the better. Poor things suffer so much because muppets want them to look 'cute'.

My rescue dog doesn't like pugs etc I think he thinks they are cats , vet said he prob can't read their faces for mood etc where we live there are loads

Mine does not recognise them either. Apparently its very common. He's a big dog but he physically backs away from dogs like pugs and frenchies.

people want them because they are marketed as cute. If no one promotes them as 'cute' anymore then they will be gradually less desirable.

My young dog doesn't like the snuffling and snoring noises these breeds make. He looks wary rather than scared. I hadn't thought about their faces being difficult to read. That is a good point.

I had a pug (rescue or I would never have had one). Dogs were afraid of him as he made that ridiculous snuffle. He was a gorgeous temperament and just delightful, but he did suffer - I hope I managed to give him some respite in his later years.
I am glad this is happening

Is it not discrimination against flat faced dogs? Its not their fault they have got flat faces?
Maybe they could photoshop them slightly to make their noses longer?

im so sick of Facebook posts from an old work colleague/aquaintance about all her dogs health issues with breathing, eyes etc.
I know it’s not her fault now she’s got them as she should take care of them but it makes me so 😡

Mine hates them too, especially black ones.

It's very common as they have no tails and their faces/ears aren't easy to read.

My dog loves most dogs and just wants to be friends with them all.

But she just doesn't 'get' flat faced breeds and will growl and be very wary of them. She's a lovely, gentle dog so this reaction clearly shows that she can't recognize them as dogs.

I was so glad to read this.

I hope eventually it becomes illegal to breed or own them.

So sad making a dog suffer it's entire life just because people think they look cute.

I genuinely don't understand why anyone would want one. I don't think they're "cute" . Even if they could breathe properly I still think they're ugly dogs. All screwed up faces and bulging eyes.

I was once in a vets waiting room where another dog owner had two pugs. I remember smiling politely at her talking about how cute and adorable her pugs were. I don't see it.
