That poor dog on the left. That’s a truly awful example

How on earth is the dog on the left considered “cuter” than the one on the right? The poor thing is utterly hideous and barely resembles a dog.

I have a Pug (RESCUE!) and he's the sweetest dog, they really are companion dogs - wants to be touching me at all times

He will happily be left alone snoozing for a couple of hours though.

I'm happy they're getting rid of the cards obviously

Mine can breathe fine though - he was extensively checked out at the vets and he doesn't need the BOAS surgery to open up his nose

That's why so many dogs are weary or afraid of them because they don't resemble a dog. So not only can the poor things not breath thet are also often not well socialised with other dogs as so many dogs won't go near them.

Our local doggy daycare has a warning message on their website saying they won't take such breeds for this exact reason.

Gosh I'm not really an animal person, but this is so sad. How is this even allowed, surely that's animal abuse??

It's sometimes known as "torture breeding" and some countries eg Switzerland ban certain breeds are banned for that reason (not just dogs, brachycephalic cats are also covered)

That's really messed up, quite sick actually as there's only a supply due to a demand I imagine

The whole thing is really messed up.

There's a black/brindle Frenchie that lives near us and my dog is absolutely terrified of it as he can't read it's body language or facial expressions. The owners say it's really common.

But it's also appallingly socialised and has no manners - I expect because no dog will go anywhere near it!

He's fine with pale coloured pugs but dark brachycephalic breeds absolutely terrify him and he actually tries to bolt off as he's so scared.

They are indeed an old breed. And they used to look very different.

Yes, think of the upset when flat faced dogs shopping on moonpig can't find a card that represents them.

Yeah my dog hates any flat faced dog, it's sad as the dogs tend to have lovely personalities but it's so upsetting to see them unable to breathe.

Why anyone would buy one is beyond me.
