Longest lasting snack for large Lab?

BaconAndAvocado · 05/11/2022 09:43

When younger, snacks like venison tendons would take him ages to finish but now I’m finding it hard to find a snack he doesn’t inhale in minutes!

Any suggestions?

I already use frozen kongs.

I saw someone on MN giving their dog a whole apple, is this a good idea? He loves the chopped apple I put into the kongs.

They shouldn't have whole apples as they shouldn't eat the seeds.

I would look at the mega treats - ostrich bones, deer legs etc.

Spanielsarepainless · 05/11/2022 10:59

Mine has a roast bone from the pet shop which I stuff with cheese.

LBF2020 · 05/11/2022 13:32

Another vote for ostrich bone.

Trulyweird1 · 05/11/2022 13:38

Licki mat? I use some wet food or primula cheese and those biscuit sprinkles that came with them.
Keeps the hoover dog going as long as anything.
Raw marrow bones can be good but only outdoors and only if they won’t upset his tummy.

Clymene · 05/11/2022 14:45

Licki mat or stuffed frozen king

Clymene · 05/11/2022 14:45

Kong. Please don't give him Charles to eat, I'd imagine he'd be hard to digest

TwoSpoonsofSugar · 05/11/2022 19:10

Dried beef scalp (you can get really long ones from Zooplus) and lamb feet both last about half an hour for us. As others have suggested, licki mats and frozen kongs as well.

NeedAHoliday2021 · 05/11/2022 19:10

Buffalo ears?

NeedAHoliday2021 · 05/11/2022 19:11

And antlers

You should never ever feed cooked bones. Really dangerous!

NotPennysBoat · 05/11/2022 21:22

Antlers last a good few days with my very chewy lab

snowballer · 05/11/2022 21:27

Yak sticks last forever

AlwaysLatte · 05/11/2022 21:28

The things that last the longest for mine are ostrich wings, beef ears and definitely deer antlers.

Argh why do shops STILL sell these?

pastypirate · 05/11/2022 21:32

My spanner has a frozen kong with peanut butter or primula in it.

Alwaystheplusone · 05/11/2022 21:46

Ostrich bone and extra large yak chews

rightkindofwrongg · 05/11/2022 21:48

Camel Scalp
buffalo horn

BaconAndAvocado · 06/11/2022 13:49

Thanks all.
He destroyed a licky mat, isn’t keen on antlers or yak cheese unfortunately as I can see how they would last a long time.
He did enjoy an ostrich bone a few months ago. Will give that another try.

Anco Camel skin/stick. Huge and lasts for an absolute age. They are one of the few natural treats mine eat and last a week or two, they keep going back to it.

yak bars are good, but only last about a day here…

Falmerjeans · 06/11/2022 14:26

Our like No Hide chews. Pricey but last well.

I wonder the same. I got one for my lab for her birthday - assuming it was fine as it was sold as a dog snack - then freaked out when she started crunching splinters off it and swallowing them 😱 She was fine fortunately but I wouldn’t give her one again.

Lastqueenofscotland2 · 08/11/2022 16:40

Raw bones yes. Cooked bones 1000000% no.
