My darling girl died this morning

Morninmornin · 24/09/2022 17:25

She was 9. Wagging her tail sat in her bed as I came down this morning, I went through to her to let her out half an hour later as she hadn't made an attempt to come to the door. She has been getting lazier lately so didn't think anything of it. So I went through to her and she was gone, she was fine and now she's gone. I don't know what happened I'm absolutely broken she was everything to us.

NoSquirrels · 24/09/2022 17:29

Oh what a shock. I am so sorry.

Do you want to tell us about her?

Antarcticant · 24/09/2022 17:29

I'm so sorry for your loss Flowers

It sounds as though she died peacefully, as she wasn't showing signs of illness and you didn't hear anything.

My beloved dog died at home two years ago. My husband and I still speak of him nearly every day, but now we remember the happy times - in time, your memories will be happy ones too, but for now, let yourself grieve.

Saucery · 24/09/2022 17:29

I am so sorry for your loss

Ratched · 24/09/2022 17:30

I am so sorry. I avoid threads like these because i never have the words to express myself, but I just needed to say now much I feel for you.

It's of no solace right now, but in time to come, you will be able to appreciate the fact that she died in her own bed, happily wagging her tail, and with her people.

Take care xx

I'm so sorry OP, the loss of a best friend is a uniquely painful hurt. It's always horrendous to lose them, especially when it's sudden and unexpected.

Sending you love, be kind to yourself. 💐

Tiredandancient50 · 24/09/2022 17:32

So so sorry. Many of us have been there too but this sounds so sudden and unexpected. Sending you love.

Morninmornin · 24/09/2022 17:42

Thank you all so much.

She was such a bouncy dog, she would wag her tail and her whole back end would rotate, she was loyal and protective and we loved her so much. our children have grown with her. When they were babies and cried she would cry too a little annoying on no sleep but she just worried about them I think. She barked at everything and now my house is going to be so quiet without her.

We called the vets and they came out, we opted against a post mortem, they believe her stomach flipped. She has always been so healthy, only ever went to the vets for checkups it just doesn't make sense. We thought we had longer, years longer.

I am so sorry for your loss. The same thing happened to us just under 2 weeks ago fine in the morning gone by the afternoon. It is such a shock but I take comfort my dear girl didn’t suffer for too long . Our girl was 10 almost 11. It is just so difficult when you have no time to prepare.

2bazookas · 24/09/2022 18:06

I'm sorry for your loss. But what a gentle death for a dog; in her own bed, happy, wagging, and thinking about breakfast.

StarDolphins · 24/09/2022 18:17

I am so sorry😢 I am crying for you, it’s absolutely devastating.

ChickpeaFlour · 24/09/2022 18:25

That is so sad , I really send you love even from a stranger across the internet as I know that awful pain of loss and the shock . She sounded such a big part of the family and adorable. From her point of view what a life to go so suddenly rather than a tough old age but miserable for you to not have her older years too. I really am sorry.

i found to really helpful to talk to friends who understood as even though nothing helped the pain, having people who understood it did help me through some very hard times.

LondonWolf · 24/09/2022 18:55

I'm so sorry. She sounds absolutely lovely and I know it hurts now but the thought of her tail wagging when she saw one of those she loved the most just before she went might comfort you later. You were likely the last thing she saw and thought about and how happy she was to see you x

MuttsNutts · 24/09/2022 19:02

I am so very sorry, what a terrible shock for you all 💐

LBF2020 · 24/09/2022 20:50

I'm so sorry, what a awful thing to happen. It sounds like she was a beautiful soul. ❤️

vjg13 · 24/09/2022 22:02

What a shock for you. I had my old dog PTS last Sunday and this week has been so hard. I have missed her so much.

CuriousMama · 24/09/2022 22:39

I'm so sorry that's a terrible shock ☹️💐

We're due to get my beautiful old boy PTS this week. He hasn't wagged his tail for a while. I'm dreading it. He's 15 and a half.

You have lovely memories but to have no warning must be dreadful x

EbbyEbs · 25/09/2022 07:56

I’m so sorry. This is my worst nightmare. I have a Dobermann who are prone to just dropping down dead with no warning so every morning I listen out for her paws on the laminate … when I don’t hear them my heart drops.
I’m so sorry about your beautiful girl

I didn't know that?

Sending love to you OP ❤️

yeah, they suffer badly with DCM (dilated cardiomyopathy) … the boys tend to suffer for weeks/months with symptoms whereas the girls show no symptoms and just suddenly die. There was one in our dobie group who let the dog out for a wee, went to put the kettle on … thought they dog was taking its time so went to check, dog was dead on the grass. No symptoms, seemingly fit and healthy dog, 5 years old. It’s terrible, apparently something like 60% of Dobermanns now will die of DCM

Im so sorry about your boy too 😞

AlwaysGinPlease · 25/09/2022 16:30
