Look at the puppy. He’s not a puppy, he’s 9. He’s just a small dog.
Always reminds me of the father Ted sketch with the cow !

"You've got your hands full" when I am walking 6 dogs nicely to heel ignoring their dog whilst their dog is prancing around mine with no recall but "he just wants to play"

I get two extremes. Either “ahh, what a gorgeous puppy” or they walk away very quickly while looking scared.
she 6 and scared of her own tail if it’s windy!

JRT owner (he is very small) and get a mix of comments:
Good
I get comments about how well behaved he is, how sprightly for his age, he's cute, lovely markings etc, how sweet it is that he loves me so much.
Bad
I also get 'I bet he's yappy' (he isn't), what a cute puppy (this always makes me laugh as he's 14), and from family and friends 'the way he follows you / depends on you is bad, you should train him out of it' - this annoys me - he's old, almost blind and losing his hearing, plus he spent his whole life with another dog who we lost 2 years (as he was losing his sight). Of course he follows me, me being around = it's safe to relax.

Years ago (when I was a teen) we had an English bull terrier as the family pet. There were lots of comments about my parents being irresponsible, he's dangerous, he looks 'menacing,' and 'I wouldn't trust him, I bet he's nasty' type comments.
That dog was literally the sweetest. He loved all people and would do anything for a belly rub. He also used to run away from next doors cat as he was scared of it 😂

Isn't she beautiful
Isn't she fast wow
You can't catch her mate ( to their own dog)
She looks like an Egyptian spinx
(Should of called her Anubis)
What a beautiful coat
A Belgian malinois, you've got your hands full, what and there's whippet Christ (some times a head shake)
She's like a Duracell battery, never stops.
If I had a pound for every comment I would be rich.

We had a brindle Bull terrier when I was school age ,loveliest sweetest dog we ever had.But the local training club said they don't accept bullterriers so he was largely untrained.Closely followed by a white bully. An old friend on the train said I've seen you walking your dog he looks like a pig.Unfortunately my father couldn't handle him apparently he ended up on a farm.

Isn't he gorgeous?

What a big doggy!
I love watching them run
He's so calm

My son has a staff

every bloody day he gets people backing away from him and the dog with comments like ‘stay away!that’s a dangerous dog’ or ‘stay away!he’ll bite!’

this is a dog who has been known, more than once,to go out for a wee,a blade of grass touches his Willy and mid pee comes racing back to hide behind my son

hes also shit scared of his mates cat-he went up for a friendly sniff, the (tiny) cat saw her arse about this and swiped his nose (she did miss)
he refuses to go near her now

the only thing that is dangerous about him,is his farts

we have had lovely comments about how handsome he is and how well behaved he can be (when he feels like it)

We have had the odd staffie lover stop and chat to us,thankfully these people know the breed inside out and it’s lovely to chat to them

I have a Spanish podenco (a sight hound). I generally get, ooh, what is he? (I love this one as I could witter on about the breed for hours, lol)

Walking the leonbergers can be wearing at times. I generally get the same comments over and over, they generally stop traffic at least once a week! One of my boys has actually become a bit worried about why people are always staring at him 😄

Most of the time it’s:
Bet they cost a lot to feed.
You could put a saddle on that.
You must have a massive house.
Watch out (usually to a small dog) they will eat you.
Whos walking who.

There are also some nice comments from people interested in the breed which I’m happy to try and answer.

People avoid my GSD like the plague which makes walks more peaceful!

What's his name/is he a good boy? (She's a girl)

I have a 4yo Beagle. Regular comments are:

Oh he's GORGEOUS.
Is he a foxhound?
He has a big head for a beagle.
Is he from (local hunting kennels)?
Why is he on the lead? He should be allowed to run!
He's very noisy.
Is he a basset hound?
(when he tries to mug people for treats) Aw don't worry, he's just a puppy - sometimes I don't correct them on this 😂

Stellaris22 · 25/04/2022 15:40

We have a basset hound and regularly get double takes followed by “look at those big dog ears” or “that’s Columbos dog”.

We have also had “that’s a big dachshund”.

Black Labrador: he's very shiny. He's very good.
Spaniel: he's got a very sweet face. Excellent recall.

Yellow Lab.
That she’s beautiful (true)
She’s a Good Girl (debatable)
She’s “getting there” (from people who have seen her grow up, fair comment)
A man tutted at her the other week because she barked at him. I trust her judgement tbh, he was no doubt a wrong ‘un Grin
She doesn’t really get chance to draw negative comments as I’m really hot on her not getting chance to make a nuisance of herself.

Wow, big dog
Who is walking who?
Is she friendly?
Could put a saddle on that
What sort of dog is it?

That's the prettiest akita I have ever seen

Wow, that's what I call a proper dog!

@Brightrainbow we have a staff x and get all of that! People cross the road or grab their kids to get away from her. She's a big softie and loves people.
@Saucery she also had a bark at a random man recently. She's a good judge of character though!
Most people tell me "he's a big lad"

'She's got two different coloured eyes?' As though I might not have noticed 🤣

About our Golden retriever - 'He's got big paws, he's going to be massive!' Normally followed by a story about another MASSIVE goldie they know.

We get exactly the same with our Deerhound. It is tedious.

Lab1: aw, she is so sweet, isn't she good, she is in good condition for her age.

Lab2: she's so shiny, she is so handsome, what a good shaped head, is she really a lab? The last because she is show trial stock and very slim and leggy.

French breed pup: god, she's big, what is she? Lovely markings, what huge paws, I saw one at Crufts.
