My darling boy died today

He was only 7. It was bastard cancer. He did really well on chemotherapy for five months after diagnosis but at 2.30am this morning I knew it was time to call the emergency vet.
She was kind and he passed so peacefully but my heart is breaking.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I lost my girl at 7 to aggressive cancer. Its so unfair to loose them at this age isn't it. I still miss her so much, it gets easier to remember them fondly without your heart breaking with time. Be gentle on yourself

I live alone and he was just the best companion. I had him from a tiny pup and he and I just understood each other.

I know that it was the right time to let him go but the guilt is immense.
Thank you for being so kind. Only other dog folk really get it, it’s the price of love I know that. Right now I don’t think I could go through this again.

So sorry for your loss, it's awful when you lose a dog.

Please don’t feel guilt. You allowed him the peaceful way out, you prevented any further suffering. I’ve said before on these heartbreaking threads that you have taken on the the pain and suffering so that he doesn’t have to. I still shed tears about my girl, two years on.
It’s shit , but you did the courageous, right thing.

I'm so sorry too. We had to let DDog go six weeks ago so can feel your pain. DH and I sobbed for nearly two weeks. There is a huge hole in our lives.

You grieve in the same way as every bereavement. Six weeks on I can think about him without crying which is progress.

All I can say is to be kind to yourself. You loved your little friend so let yourself cry. Sending lots of love.

I'm so very sorry. I had to put my old boy to sleep when the chemo didn't work. I felt so guilty. But the end was peaceful and calm, and that's what we can give them. You made the hardest decision, but the right one. Dogs are the best. They do get us in a way that non dog owners just don't understand. Sending lots of love x

I'm so sorry for your loss. You are right the guilt is immense - even when you know it is the best for them rather than for you.

Over 8 years for me. Cancer too.

And aye, the pain directly matches the love.

Our lives are richer for them being there and they don’t go alone. They carry a part of you with them.

And they are always a part of who we are.
