Was going to say steppedog, but that was what I always called our spaniel, who we lost afew weeks ago.

Hmm, maybe steppehound?

He is 18 months, mixed breed, huge cuddly fluff ball.
rescue, but more of a rehome, so hasn't been badly treated, just owned by an elderly couple who couldn't give him the exercise he needs.

He is possibly the most handsome dog I've ever met (not that I am biased!)

Please welcome our new dog!

I understand that he's got big paws to fill, but it sounds - and looks! - like he's going to do just fine, doesn't it? Flowers

Did you have any luck getting fluffy dog to return to you when called?

@steppemum

He has come along leaps and bounds.
...quite literally, he spends half his time on the lead leaping and bounding🙄

The biggest issue we have with him is that he initially jumped round like a lunatic barking at other dogs (really reactive). But if we could get him to meet and greet properly then he was fine and liked a run round off lead with friendly dogs.

So 90% of our training has been how to walk past other dogs without reacting and then how to meet and greet.
We have been working on recall, but (when there are no other dogs around) he walks beautifully on an extended lead, so we are doing lots of recall on the long line. On the long line, with no distratcion he is about 90% reliable. I am in no rush to let him off, except in contain safe places with a safe dog to play with. I just don't trust him not to run up to another dog and bark in their face. Off the lead he is only reliable if no other dogs, which kinds of defeats the point!

We have good days and bad days. Last we we had a really busy day. I counted 22 dogs that we passed on our walk (some half a field away, but if he spots them, then in the past he would have reacted)
Of those only one barking reactive behaviour. Rest were either calm meet and greet (dogs we know) or a bit of bounce and jump on the lead and then distracted with a treat and walking past.
The next day only 4 dogs. He barked badly at 3 of them.

Still, the people we meet regularly are all commenting on how well he is doing, and how much better he is.

Ohhh, that is such good news that he is coming along so well in his training...good on you for being so diligent and it sounds as if you've a good support system with all the other dog owners...I am very happy for your family and your new freckley, poofy pup!
Loving all those photos🙂
Did you share his name with us? I bet you've settled on a really nice name!
@TheRealMrsMac hi! Didn't know you liked dogs, too...I like his freckles on his nose too!

Zoom101 · 26/04/2022 18:32

He is just gorgeous!

A big hello from Lunadog!

Please welcome our new dog!
Zoom101 · 26/04/2022 18:33

No idea why Lunadog is on the huh!

TheRealMrsMac · 26/04/2022 19:34

Absolutely, and not just dogs @Sweetpea1532 - we're animal crackers here. Smile

steppemum · 27/04/2022 08:56

He came with his name, and as we are his 4th home and they changed his name in each home, we decided not to change it.
He is Ozzie.
