Had to say goodbye today

Had to say goodbye to one of our faithful friends this morning. He was nearly 13, and we had bad news last week on his health. Came away for the weekend to give him one last weekend by the sea but he was too poorly this morning and we had to take him to the vet to let him go gently.

He had a beautiful life but it's still incredibly sad to say goodbye.

No point to this thread just wanted to share him.

His name was Harvey. We have two other dogs, one with us who is all out of sorts missing him. Our other boy, at home, is also old.

I know it was the right thing to do, and I've been through very much worse, but these dogs have got me through. It's hard to say goodbye to a dear old friend. Bless his heart.

Feel ridiculously sad. But he was loved and had a beautiful life.

There is absolutely a reason for you to post,if it's cathartic for you
I hope it is. Been through this too many times than I care to remember,it's horrible. Dogs, cats, chicken. My oldest,over 6 foot tall son,cried his eyes out, when he had to have a pet rat with breathing problems put to sleep.He is a handsome boy,can you share his name?

Handsome Harvey he has such a lovely wise look in his beautiful eyes I bet he gave you so much love and joy I can't imagine how it feels I dread the day we have to do the same but you did the very best for him and he would have known how loved he was look after yourself OP and let yourself grieve xx

Harvey looks like a very handsome and loved dog, it sounds like he got you through some stuff and in return you've looked after him and done what was in his best interests. True companions. I lost my old girl back in Sept and it's been hard, so you have my absolute sympathies xx

How fortunate he was to be able to live his life well. And that is on you OP. You gave him a happy life. You gave eachother love.

How fortunate we are to be able to share our lives with these gorgeous souls.

What a beautiful Boy. He looks so gentle, a very good boy. So sorry for your loss op. We dread the day we lose DD's retriever or our own rescue labradoodle. Harvey was very much loved and you did everything right by him 💐

Thank you everyone for your kind and gentle words.

He was the most gentle of dogs. He had been totally dead for the last year or so but we had our own sign language and we talked to him in the belief he could feel the vibrations of our voices.

Run free beautiful boy in the field in the sky xx
