How much do you pay for dog grooming?

Liltots123 · 24/01/2022 13:48

My dog groomer has just put up her prices and I'm not sure if it is expensive or not. Obviously a job well done is worth every penny but quite a few people have commented saying how expensive it is.

I have a:
cockapoo - originally £45 but will now be £50
Border collie - originally £50 now £55 (I am questioning this one more...)

Just wondered what everyone else pays and if I am paying too much?

Round here owners go to the college as they run a parlour as part of their grooming training course. Local other groomers are about the same as you're quoting unless they're trying to gain customers by undercutting.

ImJustNotMeAnymore · 24/01/2022 13:52

Meant to add first groom at the college is free, then all subsequent are around 30% off standard fees.

wetotter · 24/01/2022 13:55

Miniature schnauzer - £35- which I’ve told her is too cheap (I always give a £5 tip).

She’s there for 75 minutes so I’d imagine after the groomer has covered their costs they’re not exactly earning a fortune.

It think they also need to account for the dogs (and cockapoos are definitely in that group) that come in in a terrible matted knotted state.

I’ve picked my dog up before now and my groomer has had some dogs in there for 2 hours plus, trying to sort out the mess the owner has allowed them to get into.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 24/01/2022 14:05

£35.

mrsnw · 24/01/2022 14:08

Miniature schnauzer is £35 and teeth clean £25. I know she charges more for cockapoos because of the huge coat and matting.

Floralnomad · 24/01/2022 14:11

I’m in Kent and mine has a full clip , bath and dry and it’s £31 but I get a slight discount as he goes every 4 weeks .

Newfluff · 24/01/2022 14:11

£50 for medium to long haired 18kg dog. Includes face mask.....

thistimelastweek · 24/01/2022 14:12

Same as @wetotter. £70 to hand strip a small terrier.

She does look fab though.

Liltots123 · 24/01/2022 14:14

Thank you to you all for answering.
Seems to be average then.
Definitely worth it for my cockapoo, she's got a very thick coat and although not really curly like some she does need doing every 6 weeks at least.
There's a groomer nearby who is charging £35 for a cockapoo but I've not heard great things. Cheaper isnt always better in my mind.

Thank you again!

£50 for rough collie. Border doesn't go to groomers no need really- never gets a bath/shower either, just gorgeous in burn/stream/sea

TerrierOrTerror · 24/01/2022 14:31

£90 to handstrip a medium/large terrier. She currently goes every 10 weeks.

I CAN do it myself but it looks so much better when they do it and she behaves so much better for them. Plus she's there for three hours which is perfectly for a leisurely brunch or lunch for me and the husband.

CharlotteRose90 · 24/01/2022 14:31

I’m in Manchester and have a spaniel. We pay £15 for a bath and de shed and then 30 for a full groom and bath. He always looks and smells amazing afterwards.

BelleNoir · 24/01/2022 14:34

I have a Tibetan Mastiff and pay £97 it took 2 groomers 2 hours it seems expensive but he looked amazing

HavfrueDenizKisi · 24/01/2022 14:37

Miniature poodle. £46 currently but was £38 with previous groomer. London.

AwkwardPaws27 · 24/01/2022 14:37

That doesn't sound too expensive for the cockerpoo.
Dies the collie really need grooming?
We have a cocker spaniel, he's been professionally groomed a few times to get him used to being handled by someone other than me, but now I just shove him in the bath once a month 😂

2DogsOnMySofa · 24/01/2022 15:03

I have a border terrier who gets 'stripped' this costs me £40

MouseyMoose · 24/01/2022 15:31

Standard poodle, was £37 but is going up to £40 from his next appointment.

clarkkentsglasses · 24/01/2022 15:46

Yorkie - £50

XiCi · 24/01/2022 15:48

£35 for full groom for my bichon x shih tzu
There are a lot of dog groomers around here though which I imagine keeps prices quite low - all are around the £35 mark

caringcarer · 24/01/2022 16:25

I have 2 Lhassa Apso bitches that cost me £45 each for an hour groom and bath. If their fur gets a bit longer or is matted I am charged more. They have to be groomed every 8 weeks to keep on top of the fur around their eyes getting longer and 1 bitch is white so running around garden or walking in rain she immediately looks like she needs a bath.

HasaDigaEebowai · 24/01/2022 16:30

£55 for a rough collie

hennybeans · 24/01/2022 16:35

£45 for a mini schnauzer, just cut, not stripped. It is one of the most pricey in this area but ddog is a bit timid and I don't want to move her around if she's happy enough. Takes 1hr15- 1hr 30.

Ylvamoon · 24/01/2022 18:13

Bath and "tidy up" £ 25.-
Full groom 35.-

That's for my Tibetan Terriers - we are in the Midlands.
