how much is a consultation with your vet?

Am I really out of touch?

A consultation is £60 now. I appreciate location might play a part (I'm borders of North London and Hertfordshire).

Is this fairly standard I'm wondering.

I’m south-east and it’s £20 something.
£60 is extortionate!
One of my dogs has had to be at the vets for 10hours, on a drip the whole time, anti-sickness injection and came home with a weeks worth of pre-biotic paste for less than £200.

fairylightsandwaxmelts · 17/01/2022 16:48

That's extortionate!

Ours is £22.50. We're in the NW.

chloe5678 · 17/01/2022 16:50

Ours was £42 this week which I thought was a lot!

BiteyShark · 17/01/2022 16:57

I think mine is just under £50

NoSquirrels · 17/01/2022 17:13

£25ish? Not sure, TBH - last 2 have resulted in things needing treating and the cost has been wrapped into that.

NoSquirrels · 17/01/2022 17:14

I suspect there’s also ‘already registered client’ price and ‘new to surgery’ price, though I could be wrong.

Medievalist · 17/01/2022 17:17

£40 - south east London

Happytodayhappytomorrow · 17/01/2022 17:20

I've checked the website and it's the listed consultation charge so I'm having a ring around to see if it's the going rate for this area.

I don't want to just go for the cheapest obviously (my dear boy deserves the best Grin) but if I can save £20 a time but going slightly further afield, I might have to look into doing so.

pastypirate · 17/01/2022 17:21

I think it's £40 odd Plymouth

Happytodayhappytomorrow · 17/01/2022 17:23
Blush I forgot to say, thank you all for posting how much you pay.

That seems a lot.

DDog hasn't needed an appointment for over 18months now, and it was £35 last time. I've just had a look at the website and, unhelpfully, they don't list current consultation fees.

user313213521 · 17/01/2022 17:37

I have in my mind £38, but I can't find it on the practice website either

We're a long way from London. Pet insurance premiums are cheaper here too!

CovidCorvid · 17/01/2022 17:38

35

Just paid £160 for a blood test and consultation 😩

BlueSkyeThinker · 17/01/2022 17:47

£25-30 ish depending on vet here, West Mids.

GlamourBear · 17/01/2022 17:49

£30 here East Midlands

PugWhiskers · 17/01/2022 17:51

That seems an awful lot. Am in South London and pay £35 ish (can't remember exact amount it's been a while, but definitely not more than £40 base charge).

Willowwarble · 17/01/2022 17:55

I am registered with two vets in Suffolk. £60 in posh market town nearest to me , £40 in slightly shabby market town 10 minutes further away.

MyGirlDaisy · 17/01/2022 17:59

Consultation is free if you are on their care plan (which is really good actually as if you have doubts you just go anyway) but if not then it’s £45. South East, fabulous independent practice.

tootyfruitypickle · 17/01/2022 18:07

Ours is £58 initial then £51 follow up
Once I got charged the follow up for having a conversation with the overnight vet at the desk and asking some questions as I was paying for the previous consultation I'd literally just had.

Would like to move vets but they're all full

Absolute bastards my ones

pumpkinpie01 · 17/01/2022 18:10

Midlands £35 , was £135 on New Years Day 😫

Suzi888 · 17/01/2022 18:12

£45 Wales

Gingerkittykat · 17/01/2022 18:19

£40 Central Scotland.

My current vet doesn't charge for follow up consults which my old one did i.e. my cat needed 3 follow ups after dental surgery because he split his stitches open and it got infected and I just got charged for medication.

Jagley · 17/01/2022 18:20

£30 in the south west here.

BellaVita · 17/01/2022 18:23

About £23

Bouncer500 · 17/01/2022 19:32

It's on their website as £28 but I didn't get charged for the last one I had as there was nothing wrong with my dog in my vet's opinion.
