My boy

DH has taken my boy to be put to sleep this evening, and I don't quite know what to do with myself, or what I will do without him. He's been my best mate for the past 13 nearly 14 years and I'm totally bereft. How do you get through it? My little shadow isn't going to be following me around anymore.

What a darling boy. I'm so sorry. It's such a tough thing to do and go through. Godspeed Harvey. Hugs and comfort to his family.

What a gorgeous boy.Harvey will be in your heart forever.for every dogowner,this is such a painful time when you have to say goodbye to your soulmate.for now, just remember,Harvey had the very best life with you,he was a very lucky boy.when I lost my last dog,I cried for a whole month,every day.But with time,the pain will ease and you can enjoy all the wonderful memories of Harvey without looking through tears.your kids quite possibly will help you getting through this difficult time.Kids have a very "natural" attitude towards death.so sorry for your lossFlowers

@Bortles

The only good thing about dogs' lives being so short is that they leave us, we don't leave them. He had love and safety all his life, OP.
I agree with Bortles and I am sure that you do too OP. I do hope that you can take some comfort from the fact that your dear, gorgeous boy's life was filled with love, fun, food and security. My DH and I wept buckets when we lost our beautiful Girl 13 years ago, and now we are getting far to close to that time again with our wonderful Grandson - he is our Son's handsome Boy, but they live with us, so...

We kept our Girl's collar and lead (hanging where it always hung), and gave the rest of her things to the rescue centre we had got her from when she was 10 months old. We might have kept more of her things if we had known that our Son was a few months away from talking us into agreeing to him getting a dog. I thought it was too soon, but he bought a gorgeous puppy from a family who's dogs had had a litter, and of course we fell in love on sight.

You are in my thoughts and prayers OP, I am sending you a hug and lots of love x

He looks like he was just the best boy. I’m so sorry. Be very kind to yourself over the next few weeks.

I’m so sorry for your loss too @DidgeDoolittle 💐

@Arsewangry

A couple more of my favourites. He was such a mischievous boy!!
Oh what an absolute cutie, I won’t believe Harvey was ever naughty enough to eat the baby’s socks though @Arsewangry 😉

Thank you so much for sharing your photos and memories of your beautiful boy ❤️ x

Arsewangry · 15/12/2021 07:04

Thanks all of you for your kind words and support. Waking up this morning was hard to do. It's going to be strange and sad adjusting to life without my beautiful, cheeky, funny, mischievous boy.

@Arsewangry

When he was a puppy. This was the day we bought him home:
I know it's shit for you, but wasn't it lovely for him that from puppyhood to death he was with one family who loved him and treated him well. He was happy and mischievous, loved and cared for. It's not a bad life for him.
Arsewangry · 15/12/2021 14:45

Yes @sillysmiles he was hard work when he was a puppy, especially when he was teething - he chewed just soooo much stuff. I'm surprised he lived to the age he did with the amount of contraband he consumed (chocolate, fridge magnets, socks, and all sorts of untypable things that he managed to scavenge when we were on walks), but never once could I have contemplated rehoming. From day one he was my boy. I can still smell his toffee popcorn head snoozing on my pillow in bed next to me.
