My boy

DH has taken my boy to be put to sleep this evening, and I don't quite know what to do with myself, or what I will do without him. He's been my best mate for the past 13 nearly 14 years and I'm totally bereft. How do you get through it? My little shadow isn't going to be following me around anymore.

Really sobbing reading this. I feel your pain so acutely. Always had dogs and been through this many times but my current dog has been with me through so many trials and tribulations and will be 14 in a month. He has been diagnosed with dementia after no ill health. I can see his decline almost overnight and am dreading the day when I have to send him over the rainbow bridge 🌈

I lost the love of my life 6 months ago, I still cry EVERY day for him the pain is like nothing else

What helped me was the Blue Cross bereavement support line, they also have a Facebook page I made a post about Bingo and it felt like I was talking to him and paying tribute to him. I left the group 2/3 months ago but it seriously helped.

I ugly cried for days, it's going to hurt so try to make the time and space to let it out

Thinking of you, it does get better but it's going to take time

So sorry for your loss. We had our 10 yo rottweiler pts 21 months ago. Still feels raw. And the guilt hits sometimes... The hardest job of being a responsible owner is that decision op..

Sorry to hear that. Remember that he was loved, you gave him a lovely long life, and he's not suffering now x

Heartbroken for you, he is gorgeous. I hope you have lots of support IRL, it really is like losing a family member.

Saying goodbye is incredibly hard, but in time the good memories overtake the pain. The days you had together will always be with you.

So so sorry. These posts always bring a tear to my eye. It’s heartbreaking. What a handsome boy.

So sorry op this made me cry, beautiful boy who knew he was loved. It's the last kind thing we do as pet owners.

So sorry for your loss - what a lovely happy life he must have had with you and your family. I grew up with a cocker and he really loved messing around with us kids. ❤️

So sorry it's very hard, our old boy is on dementia pills, ibuprofen, he's on his last lap now we're hoping to see Xmas together when son home from university they've been such good pals for 17 years.

I’m so sorry, Harvey was a beautiful and very lucky boy.

I dread the day, my boy is 10 tomorrow and two weeks ago he was diagnosed with diabetes. Just one of those things the vet said. We’ve never fed him rubbish, he’s always been healthy, gets loads of exercise and isn’t overweight at all. We’re controlling it well with a daily insulin injection at the moment but I worry so much.

I'm so so sorry. I'm cuddling my young dog a little bit tighter tonight. They're just ours for a while. It will ease in time but is so very sad

I'm so sorry you've had to say goodbye to your beautiful boy. I wouldn't wish that decision on anyone.

I do know how you are feeling as I had to do the same to my best friend in April. He was also 13 and I adored him.
I felt like my heart was being ripped out. It's so awful.

In time you will be able to think of lovely memories and find some comfort in them.
You'll be able to look at old pictures and smile rather than just cry.

Don't get me wrong, I still miss him terribly and I often cry when I think about him but I also know how lucky I am to have had 13 years with a wonderful dog. They really are amazing creatures, I wish they lived so much longer.

I'm so sorry. We lost our GSD this time last year. Take comfort in the fact that Harvey was so loved and lived a charmed life. One day you will be able to remember him and smile, rather than the current pain you feel thinking about him.

This is what I try and tell myself, my dog only has a short time left, the thought of her dying is unbearable but I will gladly carry that pain so she she doesn’t have to. I’m so sorry OP.
