Around here it's the cross breeds like cockapoos or cavachons or else cocker spaniels that the mc/uc own.. Maybe it's just our part of London?

Definitely not crosses around here. You're looking at a lab, or some sort of pointer. Weimaraner or Dalmatians also popular.

Goawayangryman · 01/12/2021 15:19

I met the poshest family I've ever met (nanny was with) in hampshaar at the weekend. They had an appalingly behaved, growly Dalmatian.

Quickchangeartiste · 01/12/2021 16:14

Gun dogs - black or yellow labs , springers , pointers , plus border terriers to keep the labs in order.
Or that’s how it seems round here.
Mind you I have 2 labs and am definitely not posh 😁

Turquoisesol · 01/12/2021 16:15

I thought I read on here a while ago that posh people actually get rescue mutts !

RunningFromInsanity · 01/12/2021 16:30

Airedales look like the poshest breed to me.
I imagine them roaming the corridors of stately homes

Londonlassie12 · 01/12/2021 16:59

I love Airdales!

Posh dogs are large, working or gun

I don't think fluffy doodlepoos are posh at all.

Hairy little mutts can be though, especially if offspring of working farm dogs

The Royals have corgis, dorgis, staffies, jack russells (rescue), labradors, cocker spaniels and Norwich terriers

Londonlassie12 · 01/12/2021 17:55

Yes I was reading before that Carol Middleton breeds cocker spaniels & James breeds them now... The York sisters have 4 nolfolk terriers between them..

Haven’t seen an Airedale for years.

RedDeadRoach · 01/12/2021 18:14

Setters, i think. Can imagine a posh bloke striding around his country estate with a flock of English setters following him.

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 01/12/2021 18:28

Nothing posh about the current designer dog breeds.

Sidneysussex · 01/12/2021 18:36

Labs and spaniels. Gun dogs basically. Poo crosses are absolutely not posh ,

tabulahrasa · 01/12/2021 18:54

Proper posh is between 2 and 4 either labs, spanels or pointers and one random terrier...

NotQuiteUsual · 01/12/2021 22:08

I met those most lovely Airedale terrier puppy last week. My toddler and her chased each other round the park gleefully and it was so cute I nearly died.

The poshest person I know has a Springador that loves retrieving the game he's shot.

LaurieFairyCake · 01/12/2021 22:17

Posh is my Pug

Bred as companions for Royalty in China

In reality - a Princess twat badger who snorts in my face and has possibly 3 brain cells.

Nomoreusernames1244 · 01/12/2021 22:20

No doodle poos are very nouveaux riche 🙄. For wannabes who flash the cash..

Proper rich people have proper dogs. And look down their long elegant noses at these know nothing upstarts…

Doyouwantcoffee · 01/12/2021 22:40

Always thought Airedales were ratters - bred for the Bingley wool mills. Will have to look again.

Now Afghans - those are posh dogs. You need a full time groomer to keep them looking their best.

I guess the Queen’s corgis must come quite high on the posh index.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 01/12/2021 23:03

This is my posh dog 🤣 she's actually very stubborn, demanding and lazy when she chooses!

Definitely labradors (black or yellow, never brown), springer spaniels, setters or one of the HPR breeds. Maybe a Dalmatian in there too.

I also agree with @tabulahrasa that they often seem to have a random scruffy terrier thrown in too Grin

Twolostsoulsswimminginafishbow · 02/12/2021 06:38

Designer crosses are seriously nafff, give me my lab any day (I’m so not posh.) Strangely, the MC around here seem to be rehoming Staffies recently. They get them as rescues so it lets them virtue signal their heroic credentials.

wetotter · 02/12/2021 06:53

Airedales are all-purpose hunting dogs. They can deal wth rats, of course, but they are actually rather large for that - the ratters being the small terriers (JRT, Cairn, Norfolk, Norwich, Border, Lakeland, Patterdale sort of size)

The Airedale is the largest of the terriers, and can take down much bigger prey.

They seem to come in two sizes, large and enormous!

Luckingfovely · 02/12/2021 07:09

Crosses and 'poo's are naff as anything.

Labradors and spaniels are "posh", which means in reality they are trained working dogs used on shoots.

Of the labs, Fox Reds top, then black, then yellow, and chocolate are not posh.

Springers, cockers, and sprockers all equally acceptable as long as they are the working line, not the ghastly show line.

Scruffy terriers also acceptable for keeping rats at bay on the estate or farm. *not housing.

Of course, all dogs are bloody lovely and rescues often the best, but as you posted, that's the answer.

Lonecatwithkitten · 02/12/2021 07:48

Working as a vet posh/money dogs labradors, cockers, border terriers and Norfolk terriers. Crosses belong to well off people, but not the fabulously wealthy.

ManchesterTartwithCustard · 02/12/2021 07:58

Corgis surely

wetotter · 02/12/2021 08:04

If Norfolk terriers count as posh, then presumable Norwiches are even more so?

They're the working, small, hairy kind of random terrier posh, with added rarity (Norfolk on the 'watch' list and Norwich on the 'vulnerable')
