She is not fat

I have a 4 year old Pug. She is gorgeous. I feed her once a day at teatime and she scoffs the lot. She gets an odd titbit in between such as the end of my toast in the morning but that is all.

She gets exercise every day with me. We go for long walks off the lead through the woods and when we get home she is tired.
I get fed up of people saying she is tubby. She is never going to be slim, but she is solidly built and stocky.
I meet other people with Pugs and they all look the same to me.
Stop saying she is fat. It annoys me when I put my heart and soul into looking after this little dog.
It's people like you who say whippets are too thin
Thank you

you as in not personally

Your pug looks very healthy

And I’m a greyhound owner Grin

(People always say my grey is too thin as you can see her ribs Hmm. Vet says her weight and health are excellent, but hey, what do vets know Grin)

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 05/10/2021 15:13

She’s got a a clear tuck, she looks really well proportioned to me!

When our rescue first arrived with us she was perfectly round like a pig, when she lay down she’d practically roll all the way over. Weight came off pretty quickly but she’s very prone to weight gain and a demon for snaffling food so we do have to watch her carefully!

SW1amp · 05/10/2021 15:17

I’ve got 2 correct-weight Labradors and about 80% of people we randomly meet on walks/in the pub ask me what they are crossed with, so unaccustomed they are to normal weight labs

The vet posts pics of them on their fb page as examples of healthy weight dogs - I couldn’t be prouder if it was own doctor praising my waistline!

But I do think most people have got used to seeing dogs being fatter than they should be

YodaiamsaidI · 05/10/2021 15:47

If the vet says shes perfect I'd not give it another thought.there's a poor pug living nearby that is so fat you can hardly tell he has legs Sad

LaurieFairyCake · 05/10/2021 15:52

I also have a Pug who was abandoned

He was 5 kilos when he arrived - he's now 8 kilos and according to the vet a 'perfect example of the breed'

Very long legged and fast as fuck
@pugname Awwww!! Looks just like my baby

Pugs are honestly the best dogs in the world. I cannot ask for a nicer, friendlier, cuter, more loyal best friend.

OP - I also do the rib test with ours and he is perfect 😍 I do have to be careful though as he would eat anything all day long if I let him!
Oh he's beautiful 😍

Ahh he's lovely 🥰

Mines 9.8kg but leggy and very tall for a pug and carries it well 😂

She looks great , she also hasn’t got too flat a face which is lovely to see . Lovely dog @Anordinarymum .

Anordinarymum · 05/10/2021 16:56

In truth she is not a full Pug. She is ginger (not the rare Apricot) and we think she is crossed with a Border Terrier.
She has long legs also and can run fast, but to all intents she is a Pug in nature, build, tail:) and in the way she behaves. She is loyal to a fault. On a walk she stays by my side and does as she is told, unless she sees a squirrel of course......
I don't know if people know that pugs can run very fast ! It does not seem to go with the build but they can.

She looks absolutely fine to me - not fat at all!

Tiramiwho · 05/10/2021 17:04

Look down on her from above and behind. You should see a 'waist'. Is she neutered? If she is, the vet will probably have mentioned how her calorie intake will need to be significantly less now ( unfortunately for her Sad 🐾)

Tiramiwho · 05/10/2021 17:08

Oh sorry, just saw your post about how she found you. Smile

She is beautiful, OP! Perfect. She seems thoroughly loved and I'm sure she feels it too. ❤

Loving all the other pug photos too, the most loyal breed of dog I know.

Florence282 · 05/10/2021 18:06

She's lovely. People make silky comments, they don't know what they're talking about most of the time. Take no notice.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/10/2021 20:52

It's fantastic to see so many gorgeous Pugs and pug lovers on this thread

When I got mine from rescue I'd never had one and I had no idea how their brain cells were in direct relation to how cuddly they are Grin

My boy has 3 brain cells (maybe!) and is on me all the time - he sleeps snoring against my back - so crazy cuddly all the time

XelaM · 05/10/2021 22:50

@LaurieFairyCake Aww that's what our boy does! He can't get close enough and sometimes puts his head on top of my neck/head to snooze 🥰

Ours is also tall and leggy for a pug and very fast!

PugWhiskers · 06/10/2021 08:51

I'm a newish pug owner, I'm really enjoying seeing the pug appreciation on this thread, as a breed they don't get a lot of love on this board!
