The foghorn is sounding frequently and I suspect that's why I'm up enjoying the ambience of a foggy garden at 4am.

Hoping @BaconandAvocado is fast asleep and all the others with wide awake pups.

lifestooshortandsoami is he having the food completely dry or wetted? When we first got our pup, she was still having her kibble made a bit wet and only ate all of it, if we added a small amount of puppy milk. Even now, at 12.4 weeks, we still pour a little puppy milk over her otherwise dry kibble. I think it just makes it a bit more tempting.

For treats at that stage, we have peas and tiny bits of partially cooked carrot.

Goawayangryman · 04/10/2021 10:02

Ours was definitely off her food when she arrived for a good couple of days and she was also just post-vaccine. We had a few vomits and runny poos for good measure. It soon resolved. However, I think a lot of dogs don't actually like the kibble stuff and to be honest who can blame them! ours isn't ever so keen and she is a total food hoover in general.

Last night we had Sunday roast and I just thought, you poor bugger, on kibble everyday. So, she had a mini Sunday dinner instead, and promptly slept for 9 1/2 hours with no loo breaks. For the first time since we've had her, I was woken up by my alarm. Seriously considering a move to raw/ meat and veg diet.

TheBigMacDougal · 04/10/2021 10:11

@lifestooshortandsoami Mac pup wasn’t very hungry the first couple of weeks, think not having siblings to compete with made a bid difference. We used kibble as treats to start with out of his daily rations and I tried only introduce a new thing (treat/chew) every few days to give him time to get used to them. I figure they’ll eat when they need/want to.

TheBigMacDougal · 04/10/2021 10:13

Feeling really down in the dumps today. Currently off work and been ill/exhausted the last two weeks. We’ve had a tough 18 months and it’s all caught up with me, not great timing on getting pup 😕

sandwiches77 · 04/10/2021 10:21

Hugs TheBigMacDougal Flowers I'm have puppy blues today.... For me it's the constant biting, giving him time out, ignoring, frozen kong etc etc but nothing is working and I've had enough

lifestooshortandsoami · 04/10/2021 10:31

Thanks for the replies!

I’d not even thought about the vaccine but yeah he had them Friday so could be off his food from that and the big move to us too.

He’s definitely feeling a lot more confident today and ate a bit more this morning so fingers crossed.

Oh and yeah just dry food as that’s what the breeder fed him- he’s had milk when he was younger but him and the other pups were just on dry kibble

Goawayangryman · 04/10/2021 10:38

Sorry to those with puppy blues. It's hard work and if there is other stuff going on on top... yup. I think everyone deserves a large hot chocolate today. Just don't put it anywhere the dog can get it :)

567and · 04/10/2021 10:50

Gorgeous pup @lifestooshortandsoami 😍

567pup has found that he is now big enough to jump on the sofa and take every opportunity to jump on and sit on the cushions the at he can. I’ve not decided how I feel about it yet so have been making him get off and settle on his cushion. He’s not best pleased though!

567and · 04/10/2021 10:50

Oh blimey, sorry about the awful typos!

BaconAndAvocado · 04/10/2021 11:33

Big hugs to those feeling fed up today.
Those feelings definitely come and go for me.

Depends on how the humans in the household are behaving 😊

cheeseisthebest · 04/10/2021 11:42

My puppy is currently curled up snoring on my daughters dressing grown, probably likes the smell and the softness! He looks so cosy. (Adds fleecy blanket to list of yet more things to buy!).

tizwozliz · 04/10/2021 11:45

Last night we had Sunday roast and I just thought, you poor bugger, on kibble everyday

I have similar thoughts but we supplement with things like a teaspoon of yoghurt, sweet potato, raw egg, sardines etc. which makes me feel better Smile

Raw is not for us as we'll be going on camping holidays etc. Kibble is also easy to use for training, in puzzle feeds, scattered on the floor etc.

And just to update as I mentioned I would to a couple of posters, we've now transitioned onto Millies Wolfheart, no issues at all.

And just because, living her best life

Aria20 · 04/10/2021 11:51

@tizwozliz she's having a great time I love it when they can run free!

Goawayangryman · 04/10/2021 11:55

Supplementing with real whole foods sounds like a sensible middle ground. I suppose my worry is that having tasted actual food rather than processed, she might reject the processed.
Maybe will give Millie's Wolfheart a try.

Returnoftheowl · 04/10/2021 11:59

We've moved onto raw food this week (giving it a 2 week trial). We mainly switched as his poo on kibble were outrageous frankly.
I'm concerned as the amount they reckon he needs daily is such a large amount and he can't manage to eat that much in a day. His poo is much more manageable tho.
Not really sure what to do. Raw food is considerably more expensive but make his poo better, but he never had any issues on kibble (other then the poo!)

TheBigMacDougal · 04/10/2021 12:05

@tizwozliz love the video and also the crochet animals on your insta! Do you make and sell them or just a lovely hobby?

bargelights · 04/10/2021 12:26

@lifestooshortandsoami, your puppy looks a lot like mine. Gorgeous little tyke.

Always loved border collies but he’s a definite cutie - and knows it!
Is yours a border collie too?

Have you considered freeze-dried raw food? It's something we're considering. Mine is on kibble with freeze-dried meat pieces mixed through (it comes like this) but I'm considering switching to the complete freeze-dried food. We use Nature's Variety but I can't see a puppy range (mine is 1 year old). This is the kind of thing I mean, although I can't vouch for that brand. Looks like the quantity would be quite small. It probably would be expensive but much more convenient.
Aria20 · 04/10/2021 15:15

@ashmts natures variety do a freeze dried chicken that comes like kibble suitable for puppies but only comes in chicken flavour, think it works out quite pricey as well.

Returnoftheowl · 04/10/2021 15:32

@ashmts thanks for the link. Unfortunately at his size (25kg at 4 months) that works out at even more expensive than the raw food.
He seems to eat both the raw and the kibble fine, so that's not an issue. Just not sure I can justify spending so much on raw food for the sole benefit of improving his poo!

tizwozliz · 04/10/2021 16:23

@TheBigMacDougal - the crochet is just a hobby, I sometimes make things for gifts.

I thought pup would destroy the duck I made for her but he's still in remarkably good shape.

Elmrosie · 04/10/2021 17:08

After a stressful few days, Elmpup had a blood test this morning and everything is normal so no lasting damage from her escapade last week. Such a relief! She's still sneezing and coughing from the kennel cough, but it's fairly light now - a bit like when you're getting over a cold.

If anyone has a Jolley's pet store near them, they sell quite a good reasonably priced dog drying wrap. The special fabric ones do seem to soak up more water and be less heavy than normal towels. Also, Home Bargains as dog towels for a couple of quid.

We have the same issue with shower/hose. We use a Mud Daddy to get the worst off her, then my husband can lug her up to the bathroom for a final clean down.

Has everyone got their JR advent calendars?

25kg at 4 months?!? Shock

GuyFawkesDay · 04/10/2021 17:54

Interesting about kibble as FawkesPup wolfs his down, but we switch between flavours sometimes. He was on the original flavour but i moved him to the country (so game) when the bag ran out last week and he doesn't need anything on it, he hoovers it up. Though I do put a teaspoon of sardines on often for a bit of variety. I do wonder if he's a bit sensitive to chicken, we get sloppy poop if he's had chicken based treats etc

He's definitely having a full Xmas turkey roast though, roast spuds, veg and maybe a good splodge of gravy on the top ☺️
