The foghorn is sounding frequently and I suspect that's why I'm up enjoying the ambience of a foggy garden at 4am.

Hoping @BaconandAvocado is fast asleep and all the others with wide awake pups.

That was what we thought about using the hose too MsAwesomeDragon. We tried it today, and it was pretty warm. And we don't have a utility or downstair shower room, so bringing in indoors covered in mud isn't an option.

That sounds like a good way of approaching it Goawayangryman. Our walk today was probably nearer 30minutes than 15, but most of it was through fields, so hopefully not too bad for her joints.

We have hard floor too. We actually took the rugs up because she chose those to wee on. Hopefully now she's more house tribes we can think about bringing them back, especially if they are better for her joints.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 03/10/2021 19:45

Also concerned about exercise but also doing more than recommended. If I stick to 20 mins he will stay chase around the garden. As soon as he is off lead he runs after our other dog. Yesterday he went sprawling 4 or 5 times on a friend's conservatory floor despite my best attempts to stop it. I'm having to just try and not worry

We still have wee and poo on rugs. He's so reluctant to go outside when it's wet and cold.
Had puppy training tonight and she thinks he's very overwhelmed in the group. I just thought he was chilled!

GuyFawkesDay · 03/10/2021 19:53

So....two dry house days.and FawkesPup took himself off to his pen to chomp his ostrich bone whilst we watched a film.

It's....weird! I mean it's lovely but it's odd too. Is he losing some of the puppyness and being a bit more dog?! Lost a tooth today too.

LadyCatStark · 03/10/2021 20:03

Billy has definitely had more than his allotted walking time today. He had a 45 min run on the marsh this morning and a 20min walk to the dog park, hour playing with other labs and a 20 min walk home! I think the advice is mainly to stop people from walking their dog along the pavements for hours though, today has been a bit of a one off for Billy.

When he’s wet and muddy, I take him straight in the garden and wash him with a bucket of warm water and a shower puff (although last time he got hold of it and pulled it apart 🙈). He actually enjoys being washed!

sandwiches77 · 03/10/2021 20:08

Sandwichpup has bitten me lots of times but today it really really hurts and reduced me to tears. DH keeps shouting at me and telling me that I should put my hands up to try to bat sandwichpup off. I'm doing my best and having DH shout at me isn't helping. I've come upstairs as at the moment I don't want to be with sandwichpup or DH at the moment. Sandwichpup is 18 weeks old, starts training next week

Aria20 · 03/10/2021 20:11

We are definitely in teenage phase now. Recall has gone to pot even without distractions and a variety of foods to tempt her back! Also loads of barking tonight when I cooked roast chicken she was so desperate for it.

She is now entranced by the ostriches on the tv on bbc "the mating game" she's sitting right up by the tv just staring at it!

Aria20 · 03/10/2021 20:13

Oh dear @sandwiches77 I don't think putting your hands up would help as they normally jump up to reach them even more! I'd try a time out either crate or behind a stair gate for a couple of mins see if pup calms down... If not frozen carrot for the teething?!

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/10/2021 20:18

Pup is now waiting for his third meal of rice and chicken. He's absolutely starving to death don't you know? Hasn't had anything to eat for years!!! (Or at least 2 hours). Appetite is most definitely back to normal, and he thinks it's most unfair that DD didn't share her pizza as she normally would.

MsAwesomeDragon · 03/10/2021 20:22

Oh dear @sandwiches77 that sounds awful today. Take some time out this evening. Do you have plenty of things he's allowed to chew that you can stuff in his mouth when he gets bitey? Or a play pen/crate to put him in? When AwesomePup was younger and bitey we used to put him in the playpen with a frozen Kong to stop him biting us. He hasn't tried to bite any of us for quite a while now, he's 6 months.

sandwiches77 · 03/10/2021 20:33

Sandwichpup has time out and frozen carrots, tbh I've had enough of him and DH at the moment

GuyFawkesDay · 03/10/2021 20:42

Oh @sandwiches77 I recognise that. Hugs. Tomorrow is a new day....They all have days where they drive you crazy (dogs and husbands alike!)

It's just so wearing, I get it. FawkesPup seems to like biting DD best which is really upsetting for her and me. He's torn a few of her cloths jumping up at her too.

One day he will just stop biting. I keep thinking this as I prise him off my shoes/arm/jeans. I can't wait. You aren't alone.

Frozen kongs have helped here along with more bits of dried dead animal than I care to think about.

MakeMeCleanTheHouse · 03/10/2021 20:58

We have covered both of these today. DD brand new puffa jacket ripped as he bit into it and wouldn't let go. She was so angry. He's asleep on the sofa after another swim tonight...slightly damp. We will smell of wet dogs forever now

That looks very familiar @MakeMeCleanTheHouse !!!

sandwiches77 · 03/10/2021 21:05

GuyFawkesDay what dried dead animal do you recommend and where have you bought from?

will freeze try freezing a Kong again

GuyFawkesDay · 03/10/2021 21:21

All JR products or from local dog deli: rabbits ears, ostrich bone or plait, beef tails.

Yakers, olive wood chew, split antler all get chewed intermittently here too.

But the Kong is the winner every time for FawkesPup. We fill it with mainly low calorie stuff ( mostly grated carrot, held together with butternut squash baby food, plus a bit of grated liver sausage and a little bit of kibble). Stuff something in the end for fun to get them started (lamb spaghetti broken up, a few treats). I make 3 up at once and then there's a stash. When he gets really bloody awful and bitey shoving him in his pen with one is like a reset button. He does like his pen now as we feed all meals and chews in there. Helps no end.

cheeseisthebest · 03/10/2021 21:54

Do any of yours get bored of chews? He loved yaks milk and brauded lambs chews but has now lost interest!

Returnoftheowl · 03/10/2021 22:12

@cheeseisthebest yes, mine is bored of chews. He loved ostrich bone when I first bought them. Notw he's not interested in that our any of his other chews (still likes to bite DH for much of the evening tho). I'm a bit of a loss as distracting him doesn't seem to work, as there is nothing more tempting that my husband's calves apparently.

sandwiches77 · 03/10/2021 22:21

GuyFawkesDay bought a few JR products, licky matt and a squirrel hide and seek toy that was recommended on another post. DH moaning about the amount of money that I'm spending, he bought the f*ing puppy

sandwiches77 · 03/10/2021 22:26

Returnoftheowl sandwichpup has been biting every part of me, he jumped up and bit my arm Angry

cheeseisthebest · 03/10/2021 22:28

I might have to hide some chews and reintroduce them at some point instead of having them readily available.
Felt so overwhelmed at puppy training tonight. So much to do and teach them.

Returnoftheowl · 03/10/2021 23:14

You have my sympathies! We've really struggled with this as the advice online (turn your back on him, give him a chew instead) just doesn't work for us - if you turn your back he sees that as consent to attack your calves and he's not interested in other chews - I've got no advice and hope he grows out of it
lifestooshortandsoami · 04/10/2021 05:21

Finn - our 8 week old, already very bitey, pup arrived Saturday! He’s doing so well but doesn’t seem very hungry? He’ll just pick at the biscuits the breeder sent with him? Is it just how he is and he’s not that food motivated??? Or maybe the food that he’s on?
Haven’t tried other treats as yet as the breeder seemed very against any treats other than the biscuits and maybe a tiny bit of chicken.
Did others give pups different treats at 8 weeks old?
Oh and I expected the biting but not so much at 8 weeks Grin
Thanks in advance!

tizwozliz · 04/10/2021 07:30

Our puppy wasn't very interested in food the first few days they were home. I'm sure others here reported the same thing. First few weeks I only really used nature's menu puppy treats strictly rationed as per weight instructions on the back. I've relaxed a little (a lot) now

GuyFawkesDay · 04/10/2021 07:58

At 8 weeks I used kibble and I think some of those Lily's kitchen puppy salmon and chicken treats for bribery training for things like sit.

He is still settling in so may be off his food whilst everythings new and a bit weird to him. Give him a day or two and his appetite may well pick back up. Has he had his first jabs recently too? Mine was off food and had upset tummy first week home as well but we soon saw the 4 legged food hoover come out!!!
