Dog has rolled in fox poo... 🤮

And absolutely REEKS even after being washed off! I have a vague memory that tomato ketchup has enzymes in which removes the smell. Am I right or will I just end up with a pink and smelly spaniel?!

Animology do a fox poo shampoo if you can find it locally

AlternativePerspective · 25/08/2021 08:20

Tomato ketchup and plenty of it. Leave it on the dog for about 10/15 minutes or so and then wash him again.

Evenstar · 25/08/2021 08:20

I always keep the Animology shampoo in stock for this, I have scented stuff for grooming which helps, baby powder brushed through helps.

GameofPhones · 25/08/2021 08:21

Tomato sauce because it is acidic. But white vinegar works just as well, and won't leave him pink. I spray it on, and wipe off with kitchen towel. Always works well for me.

SoddingWeddings · 25/08/2021 08:25

White vinegar. Soak dog, leave in garden to dry, then wash repeatedly.

Ketchup, passata etc will work but vinegar is best.

MissyB1 · 25/08/2021 08:25

Go to nearest pet shop and get the Animology shampoo - it's the only one that's going to work for this. Don't waste time mucking around with ketchup!

icedcoffees · 25/08/2021 08:32

Tomato ketchup does work. You need to cover the area, massage in, rinse and repeat, then wash with shampoo as normal.

CaptainMyCaptain · 25/08/2021 08:34

The Aldi fox poo dog shampoo works but they don't always have it.

Absolutely not true. Tomatoes and vinegar work brilliantly and far cheaper than a fancy shampoo.
harriethoyle · 25/08/2021 09:44

Thanks all - I will see if work allows a trip to the pet shop and if not, will try ketchup!

The Animology shampoo didn't work for mine - it was just a very expensive waste of time. Morrison's own brand ketchup on the other hand, worked wonders Grin

I used Pantene on my dog when she did this and it worked a treat. Made sure she was properly rinsed off (in cold water from the hose cos I''m mean although if she's rolling in fox or goose poo then she clearly doesn't deserve a warm bath!) and she didn't have any skin conditions. It was much cheaper than an animal specific one which never effectively got rid of the whiff! In the 1970s my mum used fairy liquid on the dog when it rolled in something yucky!

Twospaniels · 25/08/2021 18:29

Pets at Home do a shampoo called Fox Poo. It works! It’s in a black n yellow tube.

My spanner rolled on a dead fish, I tried white vinegar and then washing with fairy liquid but that didn’t work. But the Fox Poo shampoo did work!

BrilloPaddy · 25/08/2021 18:46

We have the animology shampoo on our Amazon subscribe and save Hmm owner of 2 spaniels. This is a regular joy.

Nothing gets rid of dead fish. It’s the worst thing any of my dogs over the years have done to me 🤢

Here is a photo of the culprit (at the front)and her sister... ketchupping booked in for tomorrow morning because no animology at the pet shop! Just be thankful it's not smellovision!

What a gorgeous pair! Good luck with the mission Grin

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 26/08/2021 07:31

Just careful with the ketchup because it will stain is the roller is light coloured so they might end up pink.

But that's a small price to pay for being stink free.

pigsDOfly · 26/08/2021 16:23

Oh come on OP.

Look at that innocent little face.

Seriously, that's not the face of a fox poo roller. There must be some mistake.

TheFoundations · 26/08/2021 16:27

Awww, super cute x 2!

Just to add, anything tomato will do the trick. I don't know why ketchup gets suggested, it's really sticky and gross. Passata or even tomato juice is better. The active ingredient for this job is the acid, not the sugar.

So naive... Wink
harriethoyle · 26/08/2021 16:41

@pigsDOfly Grin

As @ChardonnaysPetDragon predicted... I now have a pink necked spanner! Grin she's a LOT less stinky though!

Antibacterial hand wash really works! It’s the only thing that gets rid of the smell in my unlucky experience!
