Today, after a full 24 hrs of panting and pacing and low temp. Our amazing dog went into labor. Now I know alot here do not agree with breeding, however our breeder we have been involved with for over 17 years. this is our third dog out of her . She is an incredible pedigree, so we are what they call a guardian home. I had to allow one breed then the full price of a pup or a pup would be mine. She had the best care including an ultrasound and xray. We knew ahead of time it would be 7 pups. My wonderful breeder drove the 30 min to us today as soon as i called (it was 530 am) by 8 am we have all these amazing pups. and our girl is really being a good mum. So. the picture that would be demanded lol.

Please ask MN to alter your title. I thought I'd see a lovely heart-warming post about your love for your dog, instead I'm now upset about someone else adding to the hundreds of mistreated, homeless and euthanised dogs I see every day :(

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 18/08/2021 13:38

The puppy was normally bought at a nominal price (am I reading correctly that this one was more expensive, rather than less?). The breeder then chose a suitable stud and had one puppy back (or maybe at most two), with the bitch then transferring to the owner in full.

I was wondering about this, but thought I'd got it wrong! When I was 7 or 8, a friend's dog had puppies, and from what I'd understood, the breeder arranged the mating and then chose the 'best' puppies from the litter. She went on to show those, and the rest were sold, but I thought it was by the family not the breeder. And although they were pedigree, they weren't as "special" as the ones the breeder had picked.

I also love her slippers. Grin

That’s really interesting, never knew that.
Even more of a change than Yorkie puppies who start out looking like miniature Rottweilers, all black with just a tan spot over each eye. Then they change passing through a silvery colour to reach the adult coat of gold head, chest & legs with steel blue on the body. Sometimes as they get old the dark steel blue fades to pale grey or even dark gold when very old.

PermanentlyDizzy · 18/08/2021 20:25

Soft Coated Wheatens fade too. They start out a lovely dark auburn gold with a dark, almost black muzzle, ears and tail and fade to a beautiful shimmery blonde with a touch of dark grey on their ears.

This is my girl as a pup, a youngster and then at just over a year old. (Apologies for the quality of they pictures, they were all taken from a photo of a photo.)

@BreastedBoobilyToTheStairs

Then my girl goes to the breeders for a week to make sure that they are weaned properly. After that.. I get my grace home, and she does not allow pick ups until 12 weeks, by then they are well on their way to house trained and also socialized.

So people buying the pups aren't able to see the pups with the dam or to get a feel for her temperament unless they manage to get a slot in that one week with the breeder? Or would they come to you for that separately? What about visits to the pups before you send them to the breeder, because even if pick up is after 12 weeks its fairly unusual not to be able to at least see the puppies/meet mum etc before 8 weeks, isn't it?

the pups are all spoken for. at 5 weeks the new families ( 2 people max each family) are able to come to my house to meet their pups. They will then go to the breeders home between 7 and maybe 8 weeks....depending on how they have been doing on solid food. At that point my grace will stay there for a week to settle pups in (and yes i will visit daily...30 min away, but she is my baby) They cannot come before 5 weeks. My "irresponsible breeder" has supplied me with a floor wash for when the pups can get out of the whelp pen that needs to be done daily... she has also supplied hand wipes (and has said anyone touching pups must wash their hands and then use wipes) and also shoes off at door and she supplied me with foot coverings for anyone near pups. She really does care. She delivered them Monday.. was here tuesday... guess what ...here again today.. and we are booked for her husband to drop her here tomorrow afternoon when she will spend the afternoon. I will have food sent from my restaurant and then we will drink a bottle of red between us. Then her poor husband will drive back to get her. YUP SHE IS HORRIBLE lol

just a note. She will not be here every day for the 7 or 8 weeks. She will be here everyday this week... then every other for the next week as these are the crucial weeks. After that maybe once a week unless i call with a worry. so a MIN of 15 trips.. 1 hr round trip. she cares about her dogs more than she cares about most people. And i see why

@momager1, thank you, but sadly she’s no longer with us. We were lucky enough to have her for 14 and a half fun filled years though. For reference, we lost the 7 week old rescue pup she is with in the last photo at the age of 14 back in 2013. I could never have another Wheaten, she was so special, a real once in a lifetime dog. Smile

@Warmduscher

Why do you keep using capitals in your posts? Do you think it will convince people that you’re not part of the puppy trade if you shout loud enough?
Well said. Nothing will ever convince me that breeding a dog is right. It's done for money. Why put your dog through the pain of birth I really hate it. And why post pics on here to give other idiots the same ideA. The result is more unwanted dogs and more overcrowded rescues!!!

this is the stud muffin.. he is a purebred standard poodle tri colored phantom Fully tested. out of our breeder . no link to my girls lines . his name is Ozzy

we love for a lifetime ..or a day. but that love is so real for those of us that love our family (that is pets as well) . I am glad she had you with her for over 14 years. Dogs are our family. those that love their dogs as family members understand that. A dog will never betray you...never hurt you ...and protect anything precious to you (children).

Greed. Don't pretend otherwise. How many " guardians" are there. You're part of a MASSIVE problem @momager1 but then you know that. You ignore it, but you're well aware.

Rude. 5 stud guardians. 3 dams. She said earlier. What exactly is that "massive" problem. The only massive problem I see is puppy farmers, backyard Breeders and unethical Breeders who fail to get health tests done, just want "one litter", breed willy to nilly with no care of which stud dog suits their dam to better the breed. The care in which OP and her breeder has treated their dogs do not scream part of a massive problem to me!

3 guardian female homes. bred once each. Her studs are only bred when needed (and they can be bred until they are 10 years old) but she still has her limit on them. The one stud that she is waiting to breed , she has not bred to date as she has not had the right dam for him. He is 6. Not greedy. I make NO money .. in fact I am paying extra to make sure she has everything she needs to make her comfortable thru the whelping until she has weaned her babies. Some people are just so fucking rude. SOME breeders actually do care about preserving the lineage. True poodles are being not bred much, so the breed will die as more of these poodle crosses take over.

Chailatteplease · 23/08/2021 19:59

Ignore the posters on here being all dramatic OP. It’s quite standard practice for ethical breeders to place their picks at homes they know will take care of them and allow a breeding. I have no issue with it at all, only with breeders who don’t health and temperament test their lines and instead breed for cash.
My breeder doesn’t even break even on her litters and I’d defend her to the hilt too.
There’d be no dogs if it wasn’t for ethical breeders, I think the virtue signallers forget that.
Hope your girl and her litter are still doing well Flowers

Out of curiosity. Why did you breed her?
momager1 · 18/09/2021 17:37

I bred her as she was under a breed contract . she is a very high pedigree silver brindle poodle. My breeder ( who is the same breeder of our 17 year old black standard poodle) reclaimed her from her first home as she saw her advertised for breeding when she was only 7 months old (for after her first heat) She got her lawyer on it and reclaimed her. She knew that we had lost our big boy seamus about a year prior and thought gracie would be a good fit for us. One breed was the condition. contract gave me the cost of her back or my pick of litter. she has been amazing with us. I could have sent our grace to her for the whole thing but we could not live without her until 8 weeks post birth..so we decided to raise the pups. It has been an AWESOME experience.

Oh! Okay. Thanks for answering in a lot of detail.

Can't believe someone tried to breed her at 7 months!
