We only get zoomies if she's overtired. Sometimes a bit excitable in the morning but zoomies are a different level. Generally once she's gone that far she needs to go in the crate for an enforced nap.

Wolfcub · 11/08/2021 13:50

We've lost our first puppy tooth. Apparently accidents biting my muffin-top is the way to go

tizwozliz · 11/08/2021 13:59

Is wolfpup going to put it under his pillow?

I'm really bored today. It's good, because we've done some training, she's amused herself for a bit, we've been for a short walk and she's now napping. But her routine is a bit unpredictable still and she could nap for 15 mins or 2 and a half hours so you never know whether it's worth getting started with something or not. As puppy problems go, it's a nice one to have I guess

GuyFawkesDay · 11/08/2021 14:04

H is having a moochie sort of day too but we've had a busy few days so one at home without visitors/going out is quite nice
I'm trying to teach him paw.....a distraction from the 3 wees on the floor today. Not a great day toilet wise. Need to up the ante with treats for outside I think. Kibble ain't cutting it!!

Grin I know the feeling. No lost teeth but enough biting of my muffin top to make me think about a diet!
@MightyMeerkat

Have you had a look at the Dog Training and Support FB page (that I think I saw recommended on here)? One of the guides gives such a long process for getting them happy in their crates. I'm on about stage two!
No, I'll try it thank you.

Also going to make the crate more cosy. I have put a snuggle pup in there and a few blankets with a bed but she drags most of it out!

Sorry, @MightyMeerkat, I gave you the wrong name. It's Dog Training Advice and Support www.facebook.com/groups/374160792599484/?ref=share

AwesomePup was very tired this morning. He was a pita on our morning walk, but he did so some good recall away from another dog that he was excited to play with, so that was a good thing. I kind of thought he was just being a bit of an arse, but when we got home he took himself to bed for a nap -for 4 hours!!!! He's in a much better mood this afternoon, lol.

thegoldenconetto · 11/08/2021 15:19

I'm so glad to come across this thread 😅 I honestly feel like my life has been turned up side down ! Lack of sleep , lack of social life , lack of time for tv I could go on and on 😂 but the love I have for my 16 week golden retriever boy is unreal . I did not realise how hard work a puppy was . I chose a golden because I wrote on here ages ago that I was getting a German Shepard but I got put off by some comments saying how demanding and hard work they are and I should get a golden as they are so calm ect ect ! Now calm is not my pup lol ! He is a looney . Someone please tell me it gets easier . I have also had bad puppy blues x

TerrierOrTerror · 11/08/2021 15:23

We get zoomies (and always have done - 8 weeks all the way through to 11 months) just prior and just after a poo. Without fail. Not too bad if she's in the garden but on lead on a road walk is interesting (although luckily these don't tend to last as long).

thegoldencornetto · 11/08/2021 15:24

There he is 😊

Oh the happy to be alive zoomies! Kaftan pup gets those first thing. Realised she needs to get the frantic craziness out before she can eat.

tizwozliz · 11/08/2021 16:01

I'm trying to teach him paw

I've been trying to teach paw as well. Our first attempts were not a success, she went for my hand with her teeth rather than trying to use her paw but this afternoon we managed 3 in a row where she lifted her paw to my hand. Now to teach the command.

I occupied myself with a trip to the pet shop for treats and a cooling mat for in the car. Lots of fusses from the staff and we met a 12 week old yellow lab who she was desperate to play with but wasn't the time or place.

Jigsawtrain · 11/08/2021 16:27

We picked up our GR pup on Monday. He’s done really well, only 1 wee accident in the house which was when I was distracted feeding the kids. He’s gone to bed around 10.30 woken for a quick wee around 2 then wakes 5.30 for half an hour play then back to sleep until 7 when it’s breakfast time.
The bit I’m finding difficult is any time of training as the kids are relentless and always demanding his attention despite all of my talking to them. He’s just had a chewy, excitable half hour because one of them saw him open his eyes to their noise so let him out when he would have gone back to sleep most likely.
I’m so glad we went with a crate though so he has his own den.

Spudlet · 11/08/2021 17:01

@thegoldencornetto Hang on in there, it gets better! He’s gorgeous 😍

Spudpup has been to the beach today! He was really good in the car, hardly any whining which was excellent as it was his longest journey by far. He was a bit unsure about the waves - couldn’t decide if they were exciting or scary - but he loved digging in the sand and watching the world go by from our spot. He loved it so much he refused to nap and ended up getting quite bitey before he finally passed out on the rug Grin But all in all, it was a good day out - DS was also a superstar and listened to us really well (last time we tried the beach we had to come home early as he just kept running into the sea regardless of anything else). But this time we managed to fly the kite and everything.

Home now, Spudpup is squeaking around the kitchen with his squeaky ice cream (chosen by DS) and DS is watching a film. It’s been a good day. We even got to drive home the pretty way without any complaints from the cheap seats.

Sounds like a great day @Spudlet

Can't wait to introduce Ada to the sea, unfortunately we're 2 hours from beaches

cheeseisthebest · 11/08/2021 17:50

All your puppies are so beautiful.
We've had 2 poos outside today, hooray! Better than the 6 inside yesterday! Successful car journey to vets too but he is timid so really need to socialise and get out and about more.

Wolfcub · 11/08/2021 18:11

We've just had crazy zoomies. He must be exhausted now (she said hopefully although he's currently stomping all over me). We've done zero training this week or last, between kennel cough and decorating it's just been a dead loss. I'm slightly worried we will have lost all momentum. The puppy blues haven't really hit yet, it'll come I have no doubt but I think after having several really very tough years with ds I'm used to having my sleep disturberd and my house wrecked!

cheeseisthebest · 11/08/2021 18:23

I couldn't remember if I'd posted a pic or not. We haven't done any training yet really. Just focusing on sleep and toileting. Guess it has only been a few days, feels like he's been here forever.

Beautiful pups! I’ll try and get a photo of mine to upload without the kids in.
Can I ask about steps, we have a step down from the house to the garden (as most houses do), it’s about 2 bricks so not massive, is my GR pup ok going up and down that step or should I carry him until I make a ramp? I’ve got that pfb for puppies 😂

tizwozliz · 11/08/2021 19:09

We have a ramp but ours is more like 4 bricks.

MsAwesomeDragon · 11/08/2021 19:34

My lab puppy has been going down steps that big (we've got 2 steps, each one is about 2/3 bricks tall but quite wide) since the day he came home. I don't know if it's recommended for their joints, but I don't think he'd use a ramp if I built one. He also jumps onto the sofa, into the car, over logs in the woods. He loves to jump, although I know it's bad for his joints but I can't stop him all the time.

Jigsawtrain · 11/08/2021 19:41

It’s the only step he’s going to be going up so hopefully won’t be too bad for him but DH could make him a ramp if needed. I’ll ask the vet tomorrow how bad it will be. I was carrying him until he just ran out this morning before I could pick him up.

GuyFawkesDay · 11/08/2021 19:43

We have a 1 brick step down but then the lawn is raised so steps up too. And the front is sloped with steps up to the house as well 😕

Well turns out the wee in the house today entirely fault. Which tied puppy mum has been cleaning up accidents with the training "pee here" spray today? Yeah, that's me. I'm blaming dimple solution for making the bottles too damn similar and have now duck taped the correct one. What a plonker!

We also have "pre poo zoomies". The funny thing is my son was exactly the same when he was younger: absolute PITA then would need the loo!!!

opalescent · 11/08/2021 19:48

Any thoughts on how soon after getting a puppy to give her a bath? My female cocker pup is fairly whiffy!
