My dog was just attacked.

I'm shook up and pretty angry right now. I just took my dog to the local park for a walk. She was on a lead and we passed a young boy aged about six with a Jack Russell, also in a lead.
I wasn't concerned as we passed because my dog is always friendly and the JR seemed fairly settled too.
Then out of nowhere the JR slipped its lead and went nuts. All I remember seeing was teeth and limbs failing and spittle flying through the air. I tried to pull my dog away from the JR (she was absolutely terrified and trying to back away anyway but it had her face in its jaws).
I tried to pick my dog up, but the JR actually lifted off the ground with her, refusing to let go.

I eventually had to get down on my hands and knees and pry the JR's jaws off my dog and kneel on its neck until the woman who owned it extracted herself from her chat with another mum on a park bench to come and retrieve her dog.

To be fair she was pretty apologetic...but why do people take dogs like this to public parks where there are bound to be other animals? And why leave a small child in charge of it?

My hand was bitten. My ankle was bitten. But more importantly my dog has a deep cut in her lip and is shaking with fear. I'm also pregnant, so in the kerfuffle I actually pissed myself a bit. Blush

I think I just wanted to vent as I know it's done now and there's nothing further I can do. I'm just mad!

Oh that’s so upsetting, I hope your dog doesn’t have any long term effects from this. The fact that she hit the dog and bollocked her child says it all really.

MondayYogurt · 04/07/2021 19:46

Please do report.

We need to be able to see the stats rising exponentially year on year to see any changes.

Gosh, how scary! I hope you're okay. Please take it easy, bites can really shake you up. I got bitten last year and I was shaken up for a good few days.

Also, please get yourself checked out - dog bites can turn nasty very quickly. There was a lady recently who got bitten stopping a dog running into the road - she was in hospital for about a week with a nasty infection. If the bite broke the skin you'll probably need antibiotics and tetanus if yours isn't up to date.

Then yes, please report this dog. It was legally out of control and the owner should feel the full consequence of the law. It's obviously not the poor little boys' fault (or the dogs' fault, really) but the owner needs to face up to what's happened. Her dog is aggressive and should be muzzled when out.

currahee · 04/07/2021 19:49

I'm so sorry you experienced this. Please do visit a doctor and then report to both the police on 101 and the dog warden via your local council, emphasising that this wasn't only a dog on dog attack but that you were bitten also.

BiteyShark · 04/07/2021 19:51

If only dog on dog attack I would report to dog warden.

However you were hurt by the dog as well so I would phone the none emergency police line.

And yes get your wounds checked out and documented.

Clymene · 04/07/2021 19:54

You can probably find out the contact number of your dog warden on a local animal group. I know ours! Hitting the dog and telling off the kid is unbelievably useless. She should have offered you her contact details. She will be liable for vet fees if applicable

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/07/2021 19:54

You need to go to A and E for antibiotics as you were bitten which is standard practice for a dog bite.

You should report it to the police , ime they will be cautioned and told to keep the dog on its lead.

huuuuunnnndderrricks · 04/07/2021 19:56

She needs to pay your vets bills , also get to hospital and get a tetanus !

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/07/2021 19:59

Oh yes, and a tetanus too. Yes,the other party paid for vets bills too.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 04/07/2021 19:59

**in my case

You need to report this. The more these type of attacks are reported the more likely it is that idiots who can’t control their animals will be taken into account Sad

Similar happened to me and my dogs on Friday at the park.
I have 2 rescue dogs one is extremely placid and calm around other dogs, one is very reactive and aggressive.
I was with DD and the dogs. One was off lead and one was on His lead and thankfully I had him not DD.
Out of the blue a dog runs towards us. Stops and growls at my dog and then just jumps on him. My dog retaliated and then they're having a full blown scrap.
A woman then walks round the corner and realises her dog is in a scrap, starts shouting and having a go at me before realising my dog is on a lead, her dog is also ignoring her and I'm trying to pick. my dog up .
She finally gets the dog back on a lead and turns to walk away! No apology, nothing

Wow, that's awful of the other owner. Sad At least the owner of the JR was apologetic I guess.

I'm awake and very sore. I can't sleep because my ankle is throbbing and has swollen a bit now.
I got my dog seen to but didn't take myself off to A&E earlier because I have small children I can't leave.
Could I possibly have an infected wound, or is it likely just bruising that is making my ankle painful? Would an infection take hold this quickly? 🤷‍♀️
I cleaned the wound earlier and put some Savlon on it before sticking a little dressing over it.

Can you check your temperature?
Is it red round the edges?

Whilst this is too late to help, I’ve taken to carrying a small can of deep heat spray. My dog is a tiny chi and there’s been so many doh thefts, or attempted ones, that an ex cop fry suggested it.
Did dawn on me also that it would get another dog off of mine …

Justilou1 · 05/07/2021 03:00

This woman should be legally responsible for paying your vet fees and any possible medical bills. You have to see a doctor first thing tomorrow @cheeseisnice

Aquamarine1029 · 05/07/2021 03:19

You need to be seen immediately for your bites. Do not wait.

Gothichouse40 · 05/07/2021 03:28

You have my sympathy. Not nice and hope you are ok.

custardbear · 05/07/2021 04:02

You need to get that wound seen to tomorrow. What did the police say? Tell them she was blaming her 6 year old when it was her fault - hopefully they'll put her straight there - stupid woman shouting at a young child for her lack of care

Els1e · 05/07/2021 06:44

How awful. Hope you and your dog are ok. Definitely report to 101 and dog warden. Hopefully you’ll never experience this again but I remember reading on here about to get an attacking dog to let go, grab their back legs, take off ground and drag them backwards. Apparently it unbalances them.

Gingerninja4 · 05/07/2021 06:59

Please go this morning and yes can infect that fast I got a dog scratch on my leg that broke skin from someone's dog that jumped and ended up with cellulitis
