@LadyCatStark I throw a couple of bits of kibble or treats out on to the grass when it's raining to tempt mine out otherwise she just sits there looking at me!
I don’t think he’d have gone out even for sardines today 😂 can’t say I blame him, I got soaked just going to pick it up 😭 then he literally went back into his crate in disgust!

Aria20 · 25/06/2021 08:41

Haha yes hate it when the rain is that bad!

Wolfcub · 25/06/2021 08:42

Yes experienced the heavy rain not wanting to wee at 3.30am. I got drenched waiting for him and had to shut the door eventually so he couldn't leave me in the garden and go back in the house. I'd like to hope it would persuade him to hurry up but I doubt it

MonaChopsis · 25/06/2021 09:43

I have finally had a (minor!) breakthrough with MonaPup, who settles beautifully at night but was still getting up twice a night to toilet. She had been pooing at 1am like clockwork, but the last couple of nights she's only been peeing and her middle of the night wake up has been getting later and later. Today she woke up (for a wee only) at 2am and then settled back down until 6.30am... I can finally see that progress is happening! She's 13 weeks old today so has definitely taken her own sweet time about it Grin

However, her behaviour around the house is excellent, she is quiet and settled while I work, and she had her first puppy training session and was a superstar there, so really it's just been the overnights that have been a problem.

So glad to hear AshPup is doing better.

Turquoisesol · 25/06/2021 10:51

An advert just came up on my Facebook for fenrir socialisation course. Which seems to think they have made 3 videos which you can play to socialise your dogs to all sorts of things. I am hugely sceptical that a video would provide much of a socialisation experience. Has anyone heard of this before? Sounds like a really easy way to socialise your dog !

Aria20 · 25/06/2021 11:03

@Turquoisesol I haven't had of that particular one but I've been playing my pup various different noises via desensitisation videos on you tube eg fireworks, door bells, traffic, road works , thunder etc and I hope it is helping!

MonaChopsis · 25/06/2021 11:59

Dogs Trust also have free socialisation noises on their website... I have been using those in combination with real life socialisation and (cross fingers!) it seems to be working... MonaPup not bothered by builders next door, rubbish trucks or overhead jet fighters!!

MonaChopsis · 25/06/2021 12:02

For me I suspect the videos are in the too good/easy to be true category... I think some sounds etc can be simulated for early desensitisation, but if videos worked dogs with owners who watched action movies would have no fear of fireworks!!

Turquoisesol · 25/06/2021 12:27

Thanks yes seems to good to be true doesn’t it

Aria20 · 26/06/2021 07:00

Last night I thought I'd try white noise to see if pup slept longer and it worked!!! She's been waking up anywhere between 4.45-5.45 but when's she's done her wee and poo going back to sleep in the front room. This morning it was 6.45 when my daughter woke up and we came downstairs so she may have even slept longer! So any of the other early risers, it's worth a try!!

Wolfcub · 26/06/2021 09:51

Urgh. Wolfpup has been refusing to nap this morning and is overtired. It has been mayhem.

MrsHerculePoirot · 26/06/2021 11:36

Oh no @Wolfcub hopefully puppy will crash soon for you!

@Aria20 great win!

We came down at 7 this morning - we’ve been coming down at 6 and then 6.30 and PoirotPup wasn’t bothered at all. We’re going to start alone training I think. He does have a bit of a limp in a front leg since Thursday afternoon - doesn’t seem in pain, eating and drinking and behaving as normal so didn’t go for walk yesterday will do same today and tomorrow and speak to vet on Monday if still limping then… I really hope it just gets better soon!

LadyCatStark · 26/06/2021 15:00

I found our routine gets all messed up at the weekend when we’re all around and moving round the house more. This afternoon we popped out without Billy and left him to a 2 hour nap in peace. Could you pop our for a walk or something?
lifelongfrugaleer · 26/06/2021 17:19

Hope wolf pup settled. Life pup is an over tired night mare after too much social contact.

Might look at the noise videos
Sounds interesting

ILikePizzaAndWine · 26/06/2021 18:28

Hope Wolf pup slept eventually!

Glad Monapup has had a breakthrough!

Sorry I’ve not been about! Pup is allowed on pavement walks after her second jab, and is totally beside herself with happiness and it’s making evenings easier. Only problem is she wants to chase cars, and when I won’t let her she sits down and refuses to walk. Unfortunately for her I can still pick her up! 🤣🤣

She gets quite angry and hyper when she’s over tired or hungry. This is a challenge, but we are booking puppy 1-1 classes so I’m hoping this will help.

She’s very stubborn and even when we tell her not to chew something she’ll lick it until she thinks we aren’t looking. 🤣

As hard as it can be. I love her more than I thought though!

MsAwesomeDragon · 26/06/2021 19:46

Brilliant @Aria20, I'll definitely be trying white noise. AwesomePup gets up between 4&5am, which is far too early, so anything that would give us some extra sleep would be wonderful (I know he'll sleep longer as he gets older, but it's killing me right now).

He's just had his first puppy play date. Our friend has a one year old patterdale terrier and she brought her round this afternoon. Half an hour of playing with this other dog and AwesomePup is absolutely knackered. They had the best time rolling around in the grass, chasing each other, sitting on each other, etc. They're just about the same size right now, so I wonder how they get on once he's grown some more lol.

lifelongfrugaleer · 26/06/2021 19:55

Just playing life pup firework noises. Zero reactions. Which is great

Aria20 · 26/06/2021 20:44

@MsAwesomeDragon I'm hoping it works again tonight and wasn't just a one off! I'd love to have a puppy play date... my mums two Yorkies are old and don't like my hyper pup who is bigger than them and bouncy so she doesn't get much fun from them!

Aria20 · 27/06/2021 08:04

It worked again lol we didn't come downstairs until 7.15 and she sort of sleepily woke up then. Why did I not try white noise weeks ago?!

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/06/2021 08:17

Hurrah @Aria20 that’s good news! Makes such a difference getting good sleep!

PoirotPup’s limp seems to be getting better - we took him for a 5 min sniff literally just to the grass verge outside our house yesterday as he kept going to the gate and was desperate to be allowed out it seemed! He didn’t get more than about 20 yards from our house but hopefully helped…

Aria20 · 27/06/2021 08:49

@MrsHerculePoirot do you know how he got the limp? Hope the rest days have helped!

LadyCatStark · 27/06/2021 09:31

I had the opposite, I was surprised when Billy woke up at 3:20 as he never wakes in the night and came down to find that I’d forgotten to put his sleep music on 🙈 it worked in my favour though as I took him for a wee, put him back to bed and he slept til I woke myself at 8:45 and hurried down to check he was still alive 😂.
Aria20 · 27/06/2021 09:40

@LadyCatStark well it shows it obviously works for him too to have background noise. Lucky you with a long lie in.

MrsHerculePoirot · 27/06/2021 10:53
@MrsHerculePoirot do you know how he got the limp? Hope the rest days have helped!
No, although apparently it’s not uncommon in growing pups? Probably just over doing the running or jumping off and on furniture or over enthusiastic playing the few times he was allowed with other dogs despite our best efforts 🤦‍♀️

LadyCatStark · 27/06/2021 11:53

Oh yes it definitely works! We have new neighbours who have a puppy a week older than ours and I think she woke up and went out and that woke Billy up. Hopefully the sleep music will drown out any noise outside from the other puppy tonight, perhaps I should recommend it to the new neighbours so that they don’t have to get up in the night but I’m not sure that’s how to make friends with the neighbours 🙈😂.
