@Wolfcub so frustrating when they are startled awake out of your control and it forms an association. Hopefully it'll pass. We thought we had a good really quiet pup as she didn't bark until she'd been with us over a week haha now she certainly uses her voice!

Turquoisesol · 24/06/2021 11:57

Oh that’s annoying wolfcub. Turquoisepup was startled out on a walk but a fast noisy car and became a bit reactive to cars for a while. It’s very annoying when these little things upset them and put them out of sorts.

Turquoise pup has just started barking at things in the garden. She just suddenly gets wound up about something. Birds being noisy. Neighbour bringing wheely bin in etc. And I don’t like it when she charges around barking and growling so I bring her in to the house. But I wondered if that means I am reinforcing the bark? Does anyone know? I don’t want to be the neighbour with the barky dog.

duvetdrama · 24/06/2021 14:37

@ashmts delighted to hear you say 14 weeks! I thought it went on a lot longer, if that's the case then we are maybe nearly there 😀

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/06/2021 15:35

Life pup barks at me when I'm cooking to get food. And when he's playing or feels he wants attention. Little git.

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/06/2021 15:36

Usually right on the middle of me being on a work call

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/06/2021 17:36

We’ve had about 3/4 barks only in total! At one point I was worried he was broken 🤣🤣🤣

@MsAwesomeDragon that sounds like a blissful first walk.

Aria20 · 24/06/2021 17:39

@MrsHerculePoirot you are very lucky!

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/06/2021 17:40

@Aria20 don’t worry he is a total menace in other areas at times 🤣🤣🤣

MsAwesomeDragon · 24/06/2021 18:27

It really was a lovely walk this morning MrsHP. We've been out again this afternoon with DH and dd joining us. He was a star, dropped his lead again and he even came back to us when there was a football that he fancied going for.

AwesomePup doesn't bark very often, but has one ball which he barks at every time. It makes a strange noise when he rolls it around, and he leaps and barks at it while playing.

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/06/2021 18:31

The other weird thing PoirotPup does is when he has something like a goats ear or puzzle stick he doesn’t take it and guard it or hide it. He tries to chew it with his mouth on your lap, or sitting on you, or takes it round everyone with his saggy tail showing you he has it 🤣🤣🤣 he’s been given it to keep him occupied usually so we’d almost rather he took it somewhere away 🤦‍♀️🤣🤣

Wolfcub · 24/06/2021 19:31

Jeez we've had a mad half hour this evening. Think wall of death type running round the garden destroying all the plants and a rotten hessian sack he found. It's like he's high!

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/06/2021 19:38

Life pup is a devil dog when he is over tired

duvetdrama · 24/06/2021 20:58

Bought pup a beef tail chew today...she loves it. How often can she have this does anyone know and how long should she be chewing for in one sitting??

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/06/2021 20:58

@Wolfcub it does get better 🤣🤣🤣 we found sometimes scattering kibble helped, or doing some training or giving a lickimat would help end it - always let him have a bit of a zoom though first!

Aria20 · 24/06/2021 21:01

@Wolfcub we used get "zoomies" too, the look in their eyes is like a manic frenzy isn't it lol and they do laps of the garden. It's calmed down now but she still gets them after a bath and if she's stolen something and enticed a chase game!

Indoctro · 24/06/2021 21:06

After some thoughts . I've a 5 month old Staffie

Until recently if I left the house for a hour or two he would be crated. The last 2 weeks he had roam of kitchen / hall/ conservatory and upstairs hall . I have a camera and he mostly just wonders about kitchen, napping in various spots

He a very chilled out dog and never even looked at anything other than his dog toys to chew etc

He is very clean and during day rings his bell to get out in garden. Only ever poo once in house at 8 weeks old and been dry in house since 10 weeks and using bell

So my question is would you chance giving him the free rein of house at nights now or even maybe the kitchen / conservatory.?

He had a crate in kitchen but I still close the door at night , I'd easily let him have kitchen but don't want him to do toilet as not sure if he will go to bell and of course we are asleep

Should I just leave him crated at night till a bit older.?

During day he is left for 2 hours but has been left for 3 hours once and as I said he just napped or chewed his toys.

Too soon to trust him do you think.?

MrsHerculePoirot · 24/06/2021 21:33

@Indoctro we’ve let PoirotPup have the run of downstairs with crate door left open. Last wee between 10.30-11.30 and we get up now about 6.30-6.45. It hasn’t been a problem for us. He is 4.5 months so maybe try it one night and see?

That's about same times as me, my kids are up at 6am most days .
I think I will just give it a try tonight, he been so good during day I assume he will be at night.
Just worried incase he ate furniture but he has never even looked at anything so don't see why he would ....wish me luck Confused

LadyCatStark · 24/06/2021 21:48

Billy doesn’t really bark either but when he does, my god, it’s a full on deep man bark 😂 I thought he’d have a cute little puppy bark but it frightened the life out of me the first time he did it! He’s very good though as there’s 2 happy dogs in a neighbouring garden and he never barks back at them.

He also likes to bring us his chews, I think he’s trying to share… yum…

Indoctro · 25/06/2021 07:07

Well update from last night.

I chanced it and just left him out, woke up and he was sat at back door waiting for me, no accidents or anything chewed . Super chuft and proud of him so will just leave crate open night and day now for him.

Here is a photo of him, just because he is mega cute Smile

His name is Rubble

@Indoctro well done and great name! Does he bark when he's awake to go out?

Indoctro · 25/06/2021 07:11
@Indoctro well done and great name! Does he bark when he's awake to go out?
Hello

No he has a bell that he rings when he wants to go out. He never barks really, only heard him bark about twice, he a very quiet laid back chap.

MrsHerculePoirot · 25/06/2021 07:32

@Indoctro hurrah! That’s good news!

LadyCatStark · 25/06/2021 07:58

We have torrential train here this morning and Billy has gone back to be in disgust 😂. Poor thing, it must suck to have to go outside to the toilet in the rain! It took 7 sits by the back door to actually get him out to do his morning poo but fair play to him for not doing it on the floor!

Aria20 · 25/06/2021 08:00

@LadyCatStark I throw a couple of bits of kibble or treats out on to the grass when it's raining to tempt mine out otherwise she just sits there looking at me!
