Do mutts exist any more?

We had mutts when I was growing up. Two of them came from my great aunt's farm, where her dog, mostly Jack Russell was never spayed so had the occasionally litter of unknown paternity. Our local resuces never seem to have mutts, only known breeds or recognised cross breeds. Our last dog had the look of Jack Russell, Westie, and collie in him but God only knows what else was lurking in the gene pool.

I know exactly what you mean!!

I was horrified when we were looking for a dog that all the "mutts" now have ridiculous made up names. When I was a kid my childhood dog was a lab x gsd (accidental litter). She was such a wonderful dog that I thought I'd see if you can get them nowadays.... You can. For £2-3k and they go by the name of "SHEPRADOR". absolutely ridiculous.

100% mutt/mongrel here!
Not a clue what he is.

I have a mutt, he's a JRT crossed with a yorkie. I consider all the cavapoos, labradoodles etc to be mutts.

Yes, of course they do. They have just been re-branded as cavapugadoodledoochons, or whatever.

A good friend of mine is a vastly experienced pet vet. She sees these puppies all the time. The owners proudly announce that their little ‘fur baby’ (🤮), for which they paid ££££, is a cavapugadoodledoochon. She smiles, nods and types ‘X-breed’ into the computer in exactly the way as when she sees the scruffiest mongrel from the local rescue.

My gorgeous dog is a rescue and they thought she's a boxer/staffie X. She's almost 12 and the vet said she's in amazingly good health for a geriatric dog 😂. I put it down to her being a mutt.

We always had mutts in the 70’s and 80’s, all of them lovely dogs...one was called Muttley 😄
