What does your dog do that makes you happy

There’s been a lot of dog hate on here lately so I thought it would be nice to have a nice thread on them

I love that no matter what, my dogs are always happy to see me.

They have this wiggle that makes their whole body quiver

They smell like popcorn!

Sneaks onto DH’s bed for a nap after his morning nap and looks super surprised when he is reminded that DH’s bed is out of bounds, just makes me smile
That the Boxer is always so happy to see you even when you have just nipped to pop the bins out
Spaniel snuggles on the sofa
Will sit with me in front of the wood burner when I get it going, just snuggling and luxuriating in the warmth

When spaniel lets on go, looks shocked and then smells what he has produced and gives a haughty disgusted look in DH’s direction... always cracks me up ..... childish but true

HappyThursdays · 07/04/2021 10:09

my spaniel listens to my conference calls

when he knows my tone of voice changes, he knows we are coming to the end of the call and he comes and sits at my feet, next to me because he knows what's coming next Grin

and then, when I say the word 'goodbye', he gets mentally excited and jumps up on my lap for a cuddle because in his mind, it's Happypup's time Smile

there have been a few occasions when I haven't been quick enough to shut down the call after saying goodbye before he jumps up and the other people just see a black blur across the screen as he sticks his bum on the screen! Grin

Soubriquet · 07/04/2021 10:22

My littlest dog does this little bum wiggle towards my hands and then jumps up into my arms (whilst I bend down to pick her up)

I love it when she does this because she gives really good snuggles

She also rapes your nose with her tongue so swings and roundabouts I guess Grin

When DH goes to work in the morning, he comes to get spooned in bed!
When my mum FaceTimes me, he recognises her voice and he goes absolutely bonkers to see her on the screen.
His feet smell like cheesy biscuits, and so do his ears.
He makes an excellent footwarmer.

Corncorncorn · 07/04/2021 10:52

Mine is just love and goodness. She's just too good for the rest of the family with her devotion and joy.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 07/04/2021 12:44

The old boy: he's always been very empathetic and if anyone is sad he will cuddle up to them to try and make it better.
The middle one: when we get into a good training rhythm. The other day I sent her back 300 yards for a memory retrieve and she nailed it, and loved every second. When she gets into the sofa and settles next to me with a contented sigh.
The pup: when she goes out of her way to avoid getting her princessy little paws dirty (the ridiculous diversions, the bopping over the brambles). When she walks well on the lead. And last weekend it was a real pleasure to spend time training her and see her genetic drives coming into play.

My dogs can be insanely frustrating, but they pleasure they give outweighs all that. They keep me exercised as well - I walked bloody miles this last weekend.

BiteyShark · 07/04/2021 14:33

The spaniel wiggle you get as a greeting even if you have only been gone for 1 minuteGrin

A bump with his nose under the kitchen table to say 'oi! I am here'

A really funny but sad face he pulls when he wants to play and he is trying to get your attention.

I could go on and on Grin

MaryIsA · 07/04/2021 14:34

The bum wiggle and the desperate search for something anything to give anyone coming in the door - an old egg box, a pair of sock, my knickers out the laundry...that surprised my FIL.

So cuddly.

Self important little trit trots.

Her tired grunts when she's super sleepy and warm and doesn't want to move.

Purplecatshopaholic · 07/04/2021 14:39

The look on his face when gets a back rub. How happy he gets when he plays in the garden. He adores me and sits at my feet while I wfh (not sure I will ever be able to go back to the office!) When he wants cuddles and tries to get on my lap (he’s a big lad, lol)

bjjgirl · 07/04/2021 14:40

The undying love on their faces and the way they cuddle each other

sewinginmyfreetime · 07/04/2021 14:47

Our lurcher almost folds himself in half in joy whenever anyone comes home, he does Mexican waves from his nose to his tail, and then puts his whole weight against you for tummy rubs whilst standing, then falls over because tummy rubs are just too nice!
He also sometimes comes back on an off lead walk just to wiggle with happiness, grin at me, before bombing off again. He is such a joyful dog!

Feraltomcat · 07/04/2021 14:52

When he gets up on our bed in the morning, if I'm lying on my side with my back to him he flops down in the 'nook' where my knees are bent and makes a very happy groany noise. I'm not great at getting out of bed at the best of times but when he's so happy and comfy I can't bring myself to disturb him Blush

BigHairyPaws · 07/04/2021 14:53

When he really wants something and you've ignored previous asks, he gently places a paw on your lap or on your arm - as if to say "No, I'm really serious. I MUST have a biscuit now"

If THIS doesn't work, he starts to bring you random things as if to try and haggle. "Would you be willing to buy this dirty sock from the laundry basket for the very reasonable price of one head rub?" "What about this small cushion from the sofa, for the small sum of a walk?"

The way he will sit next to you on the floor (assuming you are sat on the floor) or sofa and stare in the same direction, then gently and slowly lean over until he's leaning against you, and give a little sigh of contentment.

The way his lip catches behind his right canine sometimes.

ConnieCaterpillar70 · 07/04/2021 14:56

My two spanners are my absolute world

Their tails and bums never stop wiggling/wagging
They greet everyone like long lost adventurers even if you've just been out to the bins
They have a thing on a walk when we come to a stile/footpath and they just stare at me waiting to indicate "which way" we're going then they roar off at 100mph
They smell like cheese
They snuggle up in bed in the morning and can't get close enough

FrangipaniBlue · 07/04/2021 15:00

Absolutely has to have a morning hug.

I kneel on the floor, he stands his front feet on my thighs and puts his head on my shoulder while I hug him.

He refuses to eat breakfast or go out in the garden until this ritual is complete.

I should point out he is a 30kg bull breed that on sight you'd think was hard as nails 😂

UhtredRagnarson · 07/04/2021 15:07

My girl is just new, only been with us a week. So far she has stolen socks and slippers, walks around with her blanket over her back like a queen, leans against any legs she can find until she almost pushes you over, lies with her legs up, slides off the sofa in slow motion, does zoomies round the garden.

afaloren · 07/04/2021 15:13

When he comes in a room and sees me there he lifts his ears up in glee and smiles and laughs, for want of better words. He does this adorable wiggly walk when he’s on his way for a cuddle and it’s impossible not to smile when he does it.

He’s so gentle with our cats and with any kids or babies he meets while we are out. If anyone in the house feels poorly or sad he can sense it and doesn’t leave that person’s side. He gives the best warm cuddles and loves to nap with a person or a cat curled up with him.

He’s the best dog in the world. I’m so lucky.

Soubriquet · 07/04/2021 15:32

Yes they always know if someone is ill or not quite right and are extra attentive

Ours try and bribe us with manky chewed toys to light the fire: 'We are freezing. Staring hasn't worked. Perhaps this well-gnawed and decapitated toy fox will inspire you pick up the matches and Do Your Duty...'

BoogleMcGroogle · 07/04/2021 17:50

This sort of nonsense....

What does your dog do that makes you happy

My old boy used to get the swing bin lid stuck on his head after a snack dive.

Eaumyword · 07/04/2021 18:54

My darling gentle old boy used to wag his tail every time we looked at him or smiled. It was just a lovely reflex and made me so happy.
He also used to come and sit quietly by my side and lean into me if I was upset or crying.
He was such a gentle soul and I still miss him.
