I am sure mine must know and decide to injure himself when you can't see your own vet because they are closed. We even had to do xmas day at the vets one year.

Just waiting for a video consult from an emergency vet Sad

Thanks for asking. Just back from emergency vets again. As the painkillers wore off he was crying and even the dose this morning didn't do anything so we have had more injections and stronger painkillers Sad

Have they x rayed him ? He sounds quite poorly

@Floralnomad

He doesn't have any neuro signs just really really sore. They said because of that an X-ray isn't indicated as the management would be the same given that he is mobile but obviously if he starts to show neuro problems or it doesn't get better then we would need an MRI to look for spinal problems.

BiteyShark · 05/04/2021 11:05

Sorry rambling a bit as no sleep. It could still be muscular or more severe like a spinal disc issue but as he is still moving his legs etc the management would be the same, rest and painkillers.

Aww I hope he’s okay.
DH got up this morning to find our GSD had diarrhoea all over the kitchen floor. She vomited last night too, but the vets is closed til tomorrow. Luckily they gave us a supply of tablets in case this happened so I’ll keep a close eye and bring her over tomorrow.

HappyThursdays · 05/04/2021 13:39

Poor boy @BiteyShark . Hope you get some answers at his usual vet tomorrow

BiteyShark · 05/04/2021 16:17

The drugs have made a difference. He's still struggling to stand but the whimpering has stopped and he's eating although only the nice food and treats but I can't blame him Grin

The smells though that are coming out of his backside might indicate that we will have a problem brewing Sad

OP posts:
BiteyShark · 05/04/2021 17:58

Yes as I thought diarrhoea 😭. And because he struggled to poo he has started whimpering again and it's several hours before I can give him anything more.

Definitely going to need to see our usual vet tomorrow. We wouldn't put him through a risky operation anyway but we can't watch him in agony Sad. Bloody covid makes this so harder than it is as we can't go in with him.

OP posts:
Alannathelioness · 05/04/2021 18:16

Ours certainly knows. That and Sundays. Not sure we've ever been to the vet for an incident when the vet has been actually open and not on a ridiculously expensive emergency call out...

Alannathelioness · 05/04/2021 18:16

Hope your pup is okay!!

Theoscargoesto · 05/04/2021 21:07

I’ve followed you and Bitey Dog on and off for a long time and I know he has had his issues: really sorry to hear this @BiteyShark and hope your vet helps tomorrow.

Riverhousepuppy · 05/04/2021 21:31

Thinking of you and Bitey and hoping you can get to your usual vet first thing.
Sending lots of love and strokes xxx

Girlintheframe · 06/04/2021 06:38

Hoping Bitey Dog is on the mend Thanks

BiteyShark · 06/04/2021 06:42

Thanks all.

He is now crying when he poos as it's diarrhoea and frequent as he has to bend his back. But on the other side he has actually laid next to DH which he hasn't done since the injury as he didn't want anyone near to him.

Counting down to vet opening as we want to see if they can give him steroids which stops his IBD from developing as it does seem this has kicked it off again Sad

Breaks my heart hearing him whimper 😢

Floralnomad · 06/04/2021 08:50

Hope you get him sorted out today and he starts to feel a bit better .

HappyThursdays · 06/04/2021 16:46

hope you managed to see your vet today and he's feeling a bit better

BiteyShark · 06/04/2021 17:30

Drugs juggled to try and get his stomach back to normality as it's just frequent awful diarrhoea Sad.

I think he is a bit better today pain wise so hoping he just gets better but back to vets next week assuming he doesn't deteriorate.

OP posts:
HappyThursdays · 06/04/2021 20:00

Hope the new drugs work. Do they think his pain will self resolve?

BiteyShark · 06/04/2021 20:25

We had a brief discussion about long term because although this was acute looking back he probably was showing some signs of being stiff getting up from rest so might be a dicky back from previous accident but the exercise and jumping about was just was too much.

The drugs he is on now would be those that they would give for chronic back pain but at a lower dose. He is definitely more cuddly today whereas previously he didn't want anyone anywhere near him or his back so I am taking that as a good sign and he isn't whimpering anymore but my god his stomach is bad, the room stinks of awful farts that is making DH feel sick Grin

OP posts:
Theoscargoesto · 07/04/2021 13:21

Must be bad to make a DH feel ill I think!!

It sounds as if Bitey Dog is a little better but that there is a way to go.... do keep is posted, I checked in just to see how you and the dog are @BiteyShark

BiteyShark · 07/04/2021 13:30

Thanks for the good wishes.

We are much better today because he wants to play despite the fact that he keeps holding one of his back legs up which must be deferred back pain. This is typical BiteyDog where it's obvious he is injured but he is 'ummm no not me, let's play'. That makes me feel a lot better than listening to him cry because he doesn't ever really show pain.

And even better we haven't had any diarrhoea since 2am. A few evil room clearing farts but again much better than last night.

OP posts:
Theoscargoesto · 07/04/2021 22:07

Sounds promising for now.....when are you back at your vets?

BiteyShark · 07/04/2021 22:10

Next Tuesday but he had blood in his poo this evening. I guess if that happens again I need to phone them as the drugs we stopped can cause gastric ulcers Sad

It's a real rollercoaster with BiteyDog. I would hit the wine but I can't incase I need to do any emergency vet runs ☹️

OP posts:
Theoscargoesto · 08/04/2021 08:42

Oh dear I’m sorry to hear, on all counts-frankly in your position I’d need wine! You said he’d had a previous accident and this might be a consequence or a new injury-is the plan to investigate that when he is more comfortable next Tuesday?

Crossing fingers for you and Oscardog sends her best too.

PollyRoulson · 08/04/2021 09:09

Sorry to hear Biteydog is poorly.

Not sure if this is of any use or interest to you
