I am sure mine must know and decide to injure himself when you can't see your own vet because they are closed. We even had to do xmas day at the vets one year.

Just waiting for a video consult from an emergency vet Sad

We thought it was a new injury when we rushed him to the vets but looking back I think he had stiffness getting up for a while so maybe he was struggling prior.

No blood today in his poo but my god the house stinks of his farts. It's evil [boak].

Thanks for the video, I'll have a look later.

Glad there's been some improvement. Poor boy!

I have sympathy for all your soft furnishings and your nose!

Hope he continues to get better. Cocker farts are evil at the best of times!

Theoscargoesto · 10/04/2021 08:23

Hope you’re all managing at home with improvement and no need for further vet input.

BiteyShark · 10/04/2021 08:41

He is so much better. Now the hard part is stopping him running about like nothing has happened. I have pulled out all the old scentwork stuff we used to do and been doing that to tire him out.

And last night he had two poos that I could use a bag to pick up rather than the watering can. It's so daft that you get excited by poo Grin

Phew! That's great news!

Theoscargoesto · 13/04/2021 09:15

Hi @BiteyShark think you’re at the vets again today so 🤞for you.

@Theoscargoesto

Hi *@BiteyShark* think you’re at the vets again today so 🤞for you.
He is so much better. Got to slowly reduce the drugs and increase his exercise now and watch how he is.

Which is good as he had a bit of a manic hour last night as clearly he was bored with lots of energy Grin

Oscardog and I have everything crossed that Biteydog will make a full recovery! How is he doing now you’re reducing the drugs? It’s hard when they feel well enough to run and you don’t think they should!!

BiteyShark · 15/04/2021 05:10

Reduced his drugs by 1/3 and went for a on lead walk yesterday and he seems fine. But the problem is he is a dog that will run and run even if in agony Sad.

I have some steps for him to get on the sofa and beds but he won't use them and insists on launching himself up on his own.

Are they reasonably happy it’s not a spinal disc but muscular, or is it still too early to tell? Hard when you’re trying to help them and they won’t be helped.

BiteyShark · 15/04/2021 20:59

Without an MRI they don't know if spinal or something else but I said we wouldn't want to put him through any more stress unless it really changed his treatment plan.

And as he is still walking pain killers and managed exercise would be the recommendation whether a slipped disc, muscular, spinal shock or arthritis.

He does seem ok and isn't pulling away anymore when you touch his back and is moving about freely. When he had his previous accident he showed neurological changes and wouldn't correct his back feet when they pointed them down but within 24-48 hours that had disappeared and he recovered really quickly as well.

It would be nice to know but he gets so stressed at the vets that I think we will just manage any symptoms with drugs.

poor boy, it's so hard to stop them running!

Theoscargoesto · 16/04/2021 09:30

Gosh you have been through the mill with him, I’ve seen you talk about his digestive issues as well. I guess it’s understandable that he gets stressed at the vets. And I can well understand you not wanting to put him through more stress with something like an MRI. Best of luck to you all, hope he keeps improving

BiteyShark · 17/04/2021 08:18

We did a short off lead bit yesterday when he was very bouncy and happy to be off as we hardly ever do on lead road walks.

He showed no signs of any pain or stiffness and is currently flat on his back with his paws in the air so I can only assume his back feels fine to him now.

I am so pleased at how quickly he has recovered after being in so much pain. Going for a longer off lead walk today and hoping he can go back to daycare (small daycare and often only him or another couple of dogs) next week.

@BiteyShark hope things have continued to improve for you and Biteydog x

BiteyShark · 25/04/2021 06:06

Thanks for thinking of us.

He seems completely back to normal. We are doing walks and he is bounding through the undergrowth like nothing ever happened.

He still seems a bit stiff getting up from a sleep but he was like that before and we simply hadn't thought much beyond him needing to stretch a lot.

He is still taking the pain killers but I am going to adjust the quantities down over the next month.

Good to hear. Hope tapering the drugs works and he stays well.
