I've just worked out
Food: £60
Pet plan: £20
Insurance: £20
Treats/toys £20

I'm actually looking to reduce this if I can. He's currently eating a food called Pure which is good quality but so expensive.

OP posts:
welshdaisy · 25/03/2021 20:30

Food: £55
Insurance: £30
Complete care plan: £12.99
Dog Walker: £200

It's a lot but I knew what I was getting myself in to prior to getting him. I researched the possibilities of everything that he will need, may need and anything that could go wrong (he cost me £1700 in January for ongoing anal gland issues and then a flush...)

Having said this, I would never be without him. He brings us so much joy and he's part of the family.

I have 3 but probably:
£150 insurance
£200 food
£50 training classes
£20 various other bits!

welshdaisy · 25/03/2021 20:39

Just to add, I primarily work from home but sometimes do have to go into the office. The £200 is worst case scenario for a dog Walker... I did try to budget but my dog is extremely sensitive and has a range of allergies so I couldn't cut back with the food. Insurance is expensive due to him having pre existing health conditions (suffered with anal glands since he was a pup...)

GiveMeNovocain · 25/03/2021 20:43

Insurance £26 (excess £100)
Food £20
Nexguard pill £20
Training classes £65
Grooming £20 every 6 weeks or so

She's very small!

Plus annual jabs, toys, chews, treats, toys, warm clothes, shampoo/conditioner....
One offs spaying £350, crate/bed, brushes, lead and collar etc
She's not cheap

JamesAnderson · 25/03/2021 20:47

2 dogs
Insurance £100
Food £30
Nose work classes £200
Grooming £10
Extras £15

magicstar1 · 25/03/2021 20:54

Food €100
Treats €30
Toys €20
Medication €140
Vet plan €15
Insurance €25

Borogroves · 25/03/2021 20:58

One dog

Insurance £76
Food £45
Vet's health plan £14

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 25/03/2021 20:59

Once I start factoring in the extra rent I'm paying due to needing a garden (+ lack of choice), it's a horrifying sum

PuffMagicDragon · 25/03/2021 21:02

Good idea for a thread

Pet plan £30
Food £30
Training £70
Worm/flea £15

Plus vaccinations, vet visits (he's still a pup so more regular visits than older dogs), far too many harnesses and leads. We also buy extra food - so when we're cooking a roast, we buy a bigger joint and leave some for him Blush and that costs a bit more!

@slaze that Pure food is lovely! We had to switch back to kibble as dpup was struggling on anything other than dry food but it was such good quality and looked quite nice!

pumpkinpie01 · 25/03/2021 21:08

Only got our puppy 6 weeks ago but so far - food £15

  • worming/flea £15
  • toys and training treats /yaks £40

Keep meaning to sort insurance out , must do that tomorrow!

BiteyShark · 25/03/2021 21:12

At one point it was about to £500 but that included daycare 4 days a week, two training sessions a week, very expensive food, toys, insurance, flea/worm treatment and the frequent vet trips that were under the insurance excess.

Now daycare is only 3 days, no training sessions and I have found cheaper food that he loves it's more like £350.

It's a good job I love him Grin

Pinkyponker · 25/03/2021 21:12

£20 food
£10 to £15 chews and treats
£100 dog walker
£5 roughly flea treatment, worm etc
£15 insurance

Probably more than I spend on my kids per month to be honest 😂

MackenCheese · 25/03/2021 21:14

Crikey, this is putting me off getting a dog! On top of the daily poop scooping 💩....

SnarkyBag · 25/03/2021 21:15

Food £50
Insurance £25
Vet plan (flea, worming vacs) £16
Doggy daycare £160

MirandaMarple · 25/03/2021 21:17

I have two.

Insurance £150
Food £52

ImpatiensI · 25/03/2021 21:21

Food £25
Vet (averaged over the year) £20

That's it.

Unmute · 25/03/2021 21:22

Less than 20 for food
12 for a kong probably every second month

That's it for monthly expenses.

Vet trip yearly but I haven't been since we moved to the UK so I'm not sure how much it is. I don't have insurance but I have a lot of savings.

Unmute · 25/03/2021 21:24

I forgot poop bags, I think £7ish a month

Stellaris22 · 25/03/2021 21:25

Food £40-50 (mix of kibble and tins, but a 15kg bag lasts 2-3 months)
Insurance £35
Vet Healthcare Plan ~£12

I think we must have dog twins. Exactly the same here with food sensitivities and anal gland flush in January too. Your dog isn't a labrador is he?

Vet visits aside,

Food £40
Dog sitter £140
Insurance £36
Vet plan £20

I don't bother with buying treats, he likes carrots.

wishes1111 · 25/03/2021 21:35

My dog is a sprocker spaniel.

Aldi dry food (recommended by vet after he got gastroenteritis as a puppy) - £7

Natural bones/treats - £5

Probably a new ball or toy - £5

Insurance - £17

Pet plan with vet (includes all vaccinations, worming and flea prevention, 6 monthly health check -£20

Groomers every 3 months is £35

Suzi888 · 25/03/2021 21:37

Food £60
Doggy park £25
Insurance £60
Groom £20
Underlying health issues so three monthly trip to vet £300 ish
Can’t have treats due to his health and being a bit of a chubster.

Enidblyton1 · 25/03/2021 21:39

£40 food
£38 insurance and pet plan
£10 treats/bones
groomers £35 every 6 weeks

missbridgerton · 25/03/2021 21:44

2 spaniels here:

£35 for bag of kibble (Skinners)
£40 wet food used as a topper
£30 insurance (only the younger one insured)
£30 tennis balls/dog shampoo/poo bags

Do all their grooming myself - bought a pair of clippers for £50.

Wolfiefan · 25/03/2021 21:45

I’m not adding that up!!!!

Says the woman who coverted the garage into a doggy bedsit and has a minibus for the dogs. Blush
