Bordoodle

I've just completed a questionnaire that recommends that a Bordoodle is the best dog for me. This is a cross between a border collie and a poodle. As they are quite rare I would love to know of anyone who has one and who knows of a reputable breeder.

OP posts:
ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/03/2021 20:11

I know, what was with the listening question?

It's not like my dogs and I have conversations longer than "bugger off the sofa" and them going "woof".

Enidblyton1 · 19/03/2021 20:14

OP, someone mentioned earlier in the thread - have a look at border terriers. I don’t own one, but know several very well. They are lovely family pets and not known for being yappy.

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/03/2021 20:14
@Heyha, maybe the entire site is set up by an unscrupulous poodle owner willing to mate her female with anything that walks by.
Trying to envision a poodle basset cross....
I think it's someone with a sex-maniac escape-artist male poodle. Every few weeks they open their door and find a cardboard box full of some nightmare mix. Then they just sigh and add some more options to their random puppy generator website.

Saint Berndoodle
Poo-huahua
Wolf-doodle
Badger-doodle

gottakeeponmovin · 19/03/2021 20:16

Border collies need a ton of exercise so I can't see how the limited exercise can be true?

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/03/2021 20:16

@ChardonnaysPetDragon Saint Berndoodle is an actual thing? Bloody hell, I was being silly Shock

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 19/03/2021 20:19

Have googled and WOLF DOODLE IS A THING. I despair.

mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 19/03/2021 20:21

That website is very silly. I did the questionnaire. Apparently the breed for me is a frengle. I might also like to consider a rottle.......
It was quite amusing to do but anyone following its suggestions is likely to regret it (and encouraging some unhealthy cross breeding).

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/03/2021 20:23

What, you've never heard of St Bernoodle until now? Tut tut back at you.

Motorina · 19/03/2021 20:27

Fortunately the wolfadoodle appears to be crossed with an Irish Wolfhound. Which is - small mercies! - less bloody stupid than crossing it with an actual wolf.

What's next? A poodle/polar bear (Poladeboodle?) cross?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 19/03/2021 20:30

@JesusInTheCabbageVan

I said BOXweiler. A highly sought after designer breed that will rip a burglar's throat out and then decide it wants to be his best friend.

I genuinely laughed out loud at this!

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 19/03/2021 20:31

@ChardonnaysPetDragon

I got goldendoodle, sheepadoodle, labradoodle and Saint Berdoodle.

It's a bit doodlelally.

Sounds like something off the magic roundabout Grin

@Puppywithattitude

Grumpy I wasn't suggesting that retired people should settle for miniature pinchers and the like. Clearly many people are equipped to deal with gun dogs. S As a generalisation ( yes I know how MN hates a generalisation) a dog such as a Vizsla would be challenging for a first time owner who might be unaware of the temperament and exercise needs of the breed. I wasn't writing off retired people.
@Puppywithattitude, I think we're at cross-purposes. I was being sarcastic about the gundogs being good for retired people - though to be fair I know a fair few retired bods with working gundogs, though none of them are first-time dog owners. One particularly fearsome 80+ yr old springs to mind...

I am not yet retired, but plan to have working-line gun dogs far into my dotage.

And 100% agree about vizslas as first time dogs. Yes, fine if you are alert and fit and have a plan of action involving training, but not fine if you want a canine ornament!

HoldontoOneMoreDay · 19/03/2021 20:35

I think you're really getting it tight OP, probably because your first post raised all sorts of red flags on this particular thread - mad crosses, taking advice from a website (even though MN is indeed... a website) and looking for a reputable breeder for crosses where most posters around here know that cross breeding is basically another word for puppy farming at the moment.

You weren't to know, no worries.

I'd name change and start a new thread looking for breed recommendations based on your circumstances. I think the tone will be very different.

notonmywatch28 · 19/03/2021 20:48

I have a collie x poodle. And he's not how any of you describe! Definitely not neurotic , happy to walk miles or sleep all day. Very quick at agility ( too quick for my brain to keep up with commands 😂). He was sold as a farm dog ( accidental mating ), at a farm dog price. He does attract a lot of attention when we are out, I just tell people he's a mongrel ( which he is 😍)!

sausagedogststandupandtakeover · 19/03/2021 20:54

A friend of mine has a border poodle cross. He is super cute and friendly but also a bit crazy and needs lots of stimulation. She can give it as a she's a SAHM and they have lots of experience as dog owners.
I didn't ask how much he cost but I suspect it was quite a lot...

Hottesttrikeintown · 19/03/2021 21:10

I am the proud owner of an alpinesilkylukiarlossbachppetbrachnund

Hottesttrikeintown · 19/03/2021 21:11

And he’s fab. If you can pinpoint the 20+ breeds that make him up and replicate id highly recommend. He’s great with kids, doesn’t shed, really clever, loves walks but sleeps a lot

OppsUpsSide · 19/03/2021 21:14

Border collies need a ton of exercise
More than whippets or greyhounds I grant you, but not on the scale that is often suggested (in my experience anyway, you really shouldn’t try to exercise a BC until they have worn out their stamina, it’s very unfair, just because they can keep going doesn’t mean they should or really want to every day)

Our NDNs but-one have a border terrier. He's great.
blacksax · 19/03/2021 23:03

Thank goodness this is the doghouse and not the tack room otherwise we'd be talking about a zeedonk.

No, wait...

Ole99 · 20/03/2021 01:45

Huge terrier and toy fan here - grew up with Jack Russells and Cairns and have owned a Maltese and Yorkie too. We also had a minature Dachshund but lost him quite young following a spinal disc rupture which was inoperable and I’ve never been brave enough to get another.
When our kids were little we had a Border Terrier and he was an amazing sturdy little family dog. The easiest dog to train I’ve ever owned very obedient, superb with the children, easy to socialise, not at all yappy and loved his cats to bits which was a bonus. We sadly lost him early last year aged 16 but he gave us so much love and joy. He’s still very much missed.
We have a Manchester Terrier now, he’s utterly adorable and it’s a breed I’ve always loved and coveted but they are challenging need a very firm hand and definitely not a breed for a novice owner.
I’d love another Maltese at some point but realistically right now we don’t have the time for the grooming which they need a lot of. Maybe when I retire in about 20 years Smile
Personally I agree with previous posters that a border collie / poodle cross could be problematic. My advice would be to look at breeds where you have a clear idea of the defined needs and traits of the dog and find one that really suits your lifestyle and family composition.

Frenchfancy · 20/03/2021 07:18

I did the ridiculous survey. I got a sheepadoodle , a schnoodle and a poodle!

I said I wasn't allergic to dogs!

OP stick to uk sites from now on.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 20/03/2021 07:35

Hilarious quiz.
Answered it reasonably honestly (other than I don't want a dog Grin) and got Golden Retriever/Corgi cross as first choice and...
Bordoodle second

I think the quiz was created by a Bordoodle breeder.

Spaceman1 · 20/03/2021 07:38

@notonmywatch28 would you recommend as a family dog?

OP posts:
YanTanTethera123 · 20/03/2021 07:44

If you only have time for 30 mins walking twice a day you probably need to think about whether you really can meet the welfare needs of a dog. And do a lot more research

Even with longer walks at weekends this isn’t enough exercise for most dogs. A dog will quickly get bored with watching you work!
