Bordoodle

I've just completed a questionnaire that recommends that a Bordoodle is the best dog for me. This is a cross between a border collie and a poodle. As they are quite rare I would love to know of anyone who has one and who knows of a reputable breeder.

Lively.
Silken.
Perky.

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/03/2021 17:06

My particular cross breed favourite is the Great danoodle.

Do look it up. Grin

Wolfiefan · 19/03/2021 17:06

Two lots of half an hour is really hardly any exercise or stimulation. My dogs have slept all day but we were out of the house for about three hours this morning. We do about an hour and a half min every day.
What do you actually have to offer a dog? How much training, grooming etc are you prepared to do? How much space do you have? Time to toilet train a pup?

ChardonnaysPetDragon · 19/03/2021 17:06

Also knows as Danepoo. apparently.

Even better.

Seriouslymole · 19/03/2021 17:07

@WhoWants2Know

Retired greyhound is a good shout.
Yep - I was about to say exactly this. Lazy, very happy to lie around watching you work and will be happy with 2 x 30 minute walks a day.

I say this with no negativity at all - we have one - she is the light of our lives (although is asleep quite a lot of the time so quite an inactive light). Seriously though, we were first time (adult - both had dogs as kids) dog owners and I am SO pleased we went for a retired greyhound. They are fab family pets.

These designer crosses are so difficult to source ethically. Retired greyhounds are seriously easy to source and there are hundreds who needs homes. Plus the fact that they cost about £150 rather than £3k for a designer mutt

I will not engage with anyone here who wants to have a go at me. 😉

@Seriouslymole lovely idea, thanks.

Isn't a great danoodle essentially a wolfhound or otter hound with the added dose of uncertainty?

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 19/03/2021 17:09

Sorry if you have already said but how old.are the children again?
Bichon Frises are so lovely. Maybe not great with babies but could be ideal with older kids.
I agree with PP who said get out and speak to dog owners. People always accost me when im out with my dog and im happy to chat from a distance.
What about a Cavalier King Charles spaniel?

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 19/03/2021 17:10

Yep whippets or greyhounds, lovely xx
Italian greyhounds a bit too much like fine bone china.

WelcomeMarch · 19/03/2021 17:10

OK, I'll play.

This is entirely anecdotal, mind, from local mutts.

Havanese: lovely, silky, bouncy little chap, but particular about who he does or doesn't like.
Poodles: there are two or three full-size standard ones here, both stunning. One is the best-trained dog I've known and the other possibly the worst.
Bichon frise: nice little old-lady companions, peacable, tend to show the dirt
Schnauzers: we know one nice and two v grumpy ones, and by god are they shrill.

Other than that it's wall-to-wall labradors round here.

Spaceman1 · 19/03/2021 17:11

@Wavescrashingonthebeach children are 9 and 12

Daffodil29 · 19/03/2021 17:11

Oh for God’s sake. How does a quiz which asks what you’re like a a driver predict which dog is best for you?! It’s clearly a bit of fun!

My top match was “bordoodle” too, also a “frenchton” Hmm

SoWhyNot · 19/03/2021 17:12

A couple of walks every day, totaling around 45 minutes, should do the trick to keep the dog happy and healthy.

I think they’ve missed a 0 off there as that sentence should read 450 minutes. Grin

Shout if you want any info. I can talk about greyhounds all day to the point of tedium. have a look at the greyhound owners page on FB - it's full of wonderful nonsense but also very good advice for owners or potential owners.

Spaceman1 · 19/03/2021 17:14

@Seriouslymole I will do that thank you.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 19/03/2021 17:14

Honestly OP, a staffie.
Loyal, cheerful, robust.

Hoppinggreen · 19/03/2021 17:15

Let’s cross a physically very active breed with a mentally very active breed and stick a stupid label on it
What could possibly go wrong?

Maassi · 19/03/2021 17:16

OP you are insane to consider such a mix. I have a BC who needs 4+ hours of walking and mental play. DAILY. Why would you cross that with another intelligent breed? There are days I wish my pooch was half sloth.

Spaceman1 · 19/03/2021 17:16

Staffies do seem to be friendly dogs.

Hoppinggreen · 19/03/2021 17:17

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

I got a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.

(Anyone know what one is?)

I do! Used to look after one for a vet friend when she went away. Lovely dog and we almost got one instead of our Goldie , don’t tell him but sometimes I wish we had!!!
Spaceman1 · 19/03/2021 17:18

I think the Cavalier King Charles can have heart problems. 🙁

OP posts:
GeorgiaGirl52 · 19/03/2021 17:19

Just took the quiz: According to them, a dog for me does not exist.
So, the three Shih Tzu and the Pomeranian sitting on my bed are imaginary? And the twelve years I spent as a foster home for Shih Tzu and Maltese were - a waste of time?
You want advice so here it is:
If your children are under age 8, don't get a dog. If they are older than eight: 1. Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
2. Standard poodle (calmer than the miniature and toy)
3. retired greyhound

JeffTheOracle · 19/03/2021 17:21

@hoppinggreen why do you wish that?

Hoppinggreen · 19/03/2021 17:22

I am supposed to get a Scnoodle or a Yorki poo
I have a Goldie and he suits us perfectly
What an absolute pile of shite that website is
