@weeM pugpup was all over the place with his sleeping yesterday, just wouldn't settle in the evening. He asked to go for a wee at 10pm so we took that opportunity to go up to bed, we usually go around 11. He went straight in his crate and went to sleep so he must have been desperate. He woke up an hour earlier this morning also which is odd as usually he sleeps on the sofa from 8/9pm then goes up in his crate about 11 and has been sleeping till 7ish. I think he has a limit of how long he likes to sleep in the crate Grin

@Brazilianut she was 8 weeks old on Monday so still a wee baby

PugInTheHouse · 17/03/2021 07:16

@BumDiggyDiggyDiggyBumDiggyBum ah so exciting! We brought loads of stuff and within hours of having him we decided we needed other stuff lol. I am constantly buying stuff on amazing prime as I decide he must need x,y,z.

@BumDiggyDiggyDiggyBumDiggyBum it's the law to post a photo once you got her!

Good luck

BumDiggyDiggyDiggyBumDiggyBum · 17/03/2021 07:18

Oh yes I’m fully anticipating her being a princess and needing every doggy accessory on the market, if she’s anything like DD

BumDiggyDiggyDiggyBumDiggyBum · 17/03/2021 07:19

I posted some photos a few threads back of when we met her a few weeks ago but will defo get some more tonight to share!

I think she’s taken her dads Maltese hair as it’s very long for an 8 week old puppy! Think we might be regulars at the groomers!

Turns out she slept absolutely fine and got up at her usual time....so that’s basically 10.5 hours she went without the toilet!

Doberwow · 17/03/2021 07:51

Could you all post your puppies favourite toys, chews etc.

Need some more ideas.

Thank you

imovethestarsforno1 · 17/03/2021 08:10

@doberwow star pups favourite chewies are strips of fish skin (but they smell rank) lamb tracheas and tripe sticks but the tracheas and tripe dont last as long as the fish. He has a pizzle stick but isnt hugely bothered about it and tends to hide it under the sofa.

The cat, a draft excluder, the rocks he keeps trying to bring in from the garden...Hmm lol

Ok, actual dog stuff...

He’s very popular - my last few fosters have really liked him as well. (Well not the same pheasant to be fair, some of them killed him)

Also not quite a toy but a buffalo horn, I was looking for an antler, couldn’t find any and thought... well that’s similar, also from pets at home.

C4itl · 17/03/2021 08:49

@SippingSipsmith Have you tried the bitter apple spray from Pets At Home? I think you can only order it online but C4pup went through a phase of eating his own poo, so whenever he did a poo I sprayed it with the spray and he stopped straight away, might be worth spraying the stones with it. I've used it on various other things around the house like the bottom of curtains, skirting boards etc. and it's been really effective!

It's not toxic for them, it's just meant to be a horrible taste and smell so it puts them off. You'll probably only have to spray the stones once and he'll associate all stones with having a nasty taste so won't bother again.

SippingSipsmith · 17/03/2021 09:12

@C4itl brilliant I will try this thank you!

I have stop chew spray which might be similar already so I'll pop outside and spray around and order the other stuff from pets at home too.

Hoping his tummy sorta itself out ASAP and we don't have to go to the vets again. Just feels like a rollercoaster start!

GooodMythicalMorning · 17/03/2021 09:16

ddog1 loved the taste of bitter apple, which is a shame as everyone else seems to have found it really useful!

I was just about to say, some dogs like it, lol
Petalpup · 17/03/2021 09:44

Petal’s favourite chews are rabbit ears, braided lamb, her yak chew and chew root.
Also likes ice cubes and her blanket although that’s more of a suck than a chew!

Groomers later for first time. I’m massively over thinking it and worrying about her needing a wee/ getting overtired and bitey/being scared of the dryer/not liking waiting in a cage etc etc.

SpreadHummusNotHate · 17/03/2021 09:53

@Doberwow HummusPup mainly likes soft toys and she hasn’t destroyed any yet. These birds are her favourite, they have a hard neck inside the fur which she likes:

In terms of chews - cow ears have gone down well and last a while. Also yak bars, not that keen on antlers. We get a lot of natural chews from JR pet products and Dragonfly products

Plantlover23 · 17/03/2021 10:13

Plantpup absolutely loves her yak chew, she also loves the olivewood chews and her split antler.

Toys wise, she is obsessed with things that rustle and squeak. Not sure if they still sell it but there’s a pig toy she has from B&M which she is obsessed with and carries everywhere with her.

And this broccoli from pets at home! Strange dog Grin

Plantlover23 · 17/03/2021 10:14

Plantpup and I have been at my parents since Saturday as I’ve been poorly and off work, she adores both of them and has been SO well behaved.

However she now cries whenever I leave the room...they can calm her down with cuddles and she eventually settles to nap with them too, but she cries and cries when I leave Sad

PugInTheHouse · 17/03/2021 13:52

@Plantlover23 we are seeing slight improvement with pugpup not crying when I leave the room, he now happily goes off for a walk without me, literally ran out the door when the trainer/walker picked him up earlier today. I am doing a lot more flitting from room to room as we are doing some DIY and this seems to have really helped.

He had a great walk with the trainer today, she is doing a few walks for us also just as it was only a few £ more to doing a package of 5 training sessions plus 5 walks. He was off lead the whole time in the park and waits for permission to approach dogs or people. She said on lead he instantly pulls towards them and she has to move him along or tell him not to. She thinks it may be because he's less brave off lead. This worries me a bit as I think if he gets braver he won't be as good (lots of others on here have mentioned about the recall getting worse as they get a bit older). She said she walked round the outside of the park also and every bench had people sat on and he didn't approach anyone so at the last bench she asked them if they minded him saying hi as he'd been so good Grin

He is wiped out now, laying flat on his back fast asleep!

I had lots of worries before his first groom but he was absolutely fine. He was a bit scared of the drier but seemed perfectly happy when we picked him up and they were lovely with him. I'm sure yours will be the same.

That's so impressive about your park walk! We've just got back from today's walk which was his first time on the ten metre lead. He was so happy and excited and came back nine times out of ten for a bit of sausage. There were no other dogs around though so haven't tested that out yet and I'm nervous he'll play too roughly or totally ignore me. We'll see.

HappyThursdays · 17/03/2021 16:49

well done puppy pug! @PugInTheHouse

Happy escaped from his harness again today. We had him on his long line, which he hates, and he was being really good. Came back 100% of the time. Then he saw a puppy, younger than him, who he knows and he wanted to play. We asked the owners, they know Happy anyway, so they were fine for him to play.

Then I started getting concerned Happy was being a bit boisterous and called him - to his credit he came immediately but the other puppy followed (being younger and not having brilliant recall), jumped all over Happy so he decided to start playing again except I was standing on his long line so he couldn't, so he reversed himself out of his harness (how he did this I don't know, even the other owner couldn't believe it).

luckily his recall is still ok so he came immediately back to us and sat when we asked and we managed to get it back on - his new collar didn't arrive today (fingers crossed it's tomorrow) so there was nothing to grab hold of him had he decided to run!

he's such a monkey, he's going to give me heart failure if he's not careful!

when dp took him this afternoon he refused to take him off lead Grin so I think Happy is now confined to his normal lead again for a bit Grin

PugInTheHouse · 17/03/2021 16:55

@MyRabbit79 that's brilliant, hes done so well!!

@HappyThursdays what a worry, I do think it depends on their shape as to whether they can escape the harness, pugpup gets one leg out by accident but the way the harness is means it won't slip off as its still in front of him so he can't move backwards to slip it. He is really small though so the harness is quite substantial in comparison to his size.

he is gorgeous @PugInTheHouse- hasn't he grown! he looks like a proper dog now!

I think Happy flattened his front legs and because I was treading on the long lead, he backed away from me so effectively the harness got pulled over his head and off (long lead was clipped to the back of it), so with his flattened front legs, it all pulled forward if you see what I mean

I don't think it was intentional but just the direction we found ourselves in. He's always been a bouncy dog, we just need to tighten it around his tum more so he can't squeeze that under his (flattened) arms if we find ourselves in that position again

HappyThursdays · 17/03/2021 17:04

but yes it's a worry. I had that momentary feeling of terror that he would dart off and we wouldn't be able to catch him (or if it had happened by a road/pavement etc.!) argh!
