Dachshund names?

DachshundThroughTheSnow · 05/02/2021 10:42

We're due to pick up our little black and tan girl next month, and just wondered if anybody might be able to help us with some name suggestions? We have a very long list - but we're still struggling to agree Grin our previous dachshunds have all had food names, so it would be nice to continue the theme, but we wouldn't say no to a non foodie name if it was 'the one' Grin

Thank you for any ideas!

What's your top 5 so that we can get an idea of the kind of things you like?

QueenOfToast · 05/02/2021 10:47

I strongly recommend calling her Miss Saucy.

Derived from the word "saucisson" which is French for sausage.

Please post pictures!

AlwaysLatte · 05/02/2021 10:51

Dijon?

anotherlongwalk · 05/02/2021 10:53

I know a dog called Marmalade which I think is a great name for a dog.

Random food word that I like that could work as names;

Orzo
Pickle
Pudding
Soda
Spud (maybe not for a girl!)
Parsnip
Parsley
Mojito

RJnomore1 · 05/02/2021 10:54

Got to be Schnitzel (von crumb, with the very low tum)

SmidgenofaPigeon · 05/02/2021 10:55

Fritz Cumberland is my boy sausage name.

Hetty Frankfurter for a girl.

Pierre Sauccison for a little french sausage

J’ose Chorizo for a little Spaniard

Maximo Salami for my little Italian.

Yes, I’ve thought about these a lot over the years. But as yours is a little girl, Hetty Frankfurter Grin

DachshundThroughTheSnow · 05/02/2021 11:17

Oh my gosh thank you all for the brillaint suggestions!

@AlwaysLatte
Thank you, Dijon's great!

@anotherlongwalk
Love marmalade! We used to have a marmite so that could work Grin thank you for the list too, adding parsnip aswel

@RJnomore1 and @Unescorted thank you! I LOVE Schnitzel, it is actually on our list, but DH wasn't sure, maybe I should work on him Wink never heard of Schnitzel Von Crumb before though, will have a Google Smile

@SmidgenofaPigeon thank you so much for the list, brillaint names! Hetty Frankfurter Grin

If my two sausages are anything to go by, their actual official given name will never be used... except when they're naughty (actually, quite often)

I'd think of names that have fabulously flowing nicknames, ours respond to about 732 variations on a theme!

Ziggy = Ziglet, Piglet, Ziggle Piggle etc
Ralph = Ralphie Paws, Sausage, Roo

You get the idea 🥴

Bells3032 · 05/02/2021 12:09

I used to volunteer at a shelter and we had a dachshund named Savaloy. thought it was adorable

SmidgenofaPigeon · 05/02/2021 12:20

Aww Pippa or Poppy Saveloy sounds amazing !

JesusInTheCabbageVan · 05/02/2021 12:23

Get a white floofy dog as well, then you can call them Banger and Mash. Or a chunky dog like a staffie - Spaghetti and Meatball.

sallievp · 05/02/2021 12:27

Definitely sizzles!

Dachshunds need a first and last name. Suits their personalities and you can bellow their full name when they are being insufferable (and having a family name that references sausage varietals also works). Someone has suggested Poppy Saveloy. Also see Jimmy Chipolata on Instagram, along with his sister, Ivy Cumberland. 😂

ilovepuggies · 05/02/2021 13:04

Muffin

Thischarmlessgirl · 05/02/2021 17:38

Mine is Stella 😊
We know sausages called:
Simon, Chorizo, Maud, Mabel, Nancy, Twiglet

Dachshund names?
SmidgenofaPigeon · 05/02/2021 17:54

Stella is BEAUTIFUL!

JimLaheysWhiskeyBottle · 05/02/2021 18:01

My first beautiful sausage was Kiki. She was my world and I miss her every day. I wanted to call her Fifi Trixiebell, but me and my husband couldn't agree, but she was definitely a Kiki.

My new little boy is Loki, because he is as handsome as he is mischievous, just like the Norse god. But we should have called him Tony Bark!

I like
Kiki
Nike (Swedish name pronounced Neek-eh)
Tora
Joy
Pepper
Astrid
