Does anyone own rare native breed dog?

As the owner of a common-or-garden Labrador, who makes up for it by regularly being Best Dog ( oh yes he is, who’s best dog? Yes you are etc.), I’m a little starstruck by the glorious Otterhound who cheerfully ambles about our village, oblivious to her celebrity status. I also remember a gorgeous Cumber (?) Spaniel who attended the special class for naughty dogs that I frequented as a twelve year old with our rescue Staffie. Both rare and gorgeous things.

Anyone else care to share their rare native breed dog to enrich my fantasy of having a house full of them? Photos would be doubly marvellous.

@frustrationcentral, I really do love Kerry Blues. Awful to hear your old faithful had a rough start but it sounds like things improved!

I’ve spent another chunk of time googling Kerry Blues. They’re beautiful.

Wincarnis We also like Glens they do remind me of Dandies but never seen one in real life, Its in the top three of dogs we would love to own but cant next to the wolf hours, but you never know.

Sad to see Welsh Springers on the list of vulnerable breeds. We had one when I was growing up, such a gorgeous dog. He needed to be walked about 150 miles a day, but was incredibly friendly and intelligent.

We have recently asked to be added to waiting lists for an English Toy Terrier, it'll probably be quite a wait, but that's ok.

@gizmo - yes, indeed. Insufficient blood-supply for both ears and nose. Thank you.

I'm interested in English toy terriers too, having been struck by how intelligent and well behaved they were at Crufts the last time I was there.

OneToThree · 21/01/2021 08:20

@wincarnis when I went to Crufts to look round all the breeds the Glen was my absolute favourite.

We used to breed Labradors but stopped as they are so popular there is so many hip and elbow problems which are getting worse in the breed again. We now have a Spanish water dog which I show, a Chesapeake bay retriever which we will show and a Clumber Spaniel. The Clumber Spaniel is my favourite they are adorable.

@Ole99 your little Manchester terrier is so cute. I hope to have one in the future. Can I ask where you found the breeder? Thanks

We found our breeder through talking to other Manchester Terrier owners at Crufts and Discover Dogs then doing more research online.
The British Manchester Terrier Club website and Champdogs were where we found litters but we had to wait a while.
I think we were on 3 different breeder lists

He’s not quite so little now - he turns 1 this week.
Here’s an updated pic Grin
