Anybody else finding themselves ruminating over pets they've lost at the turn of this year?

Looked at too many photos of my lovely dog we lost in January this year and missing him terribly.

Think we'll look to get a puppy this year, won't be at all the same but it's time, things are too quiet without him.

I lost my beloved greyhound in the summer very suddenly. It was devastating for us all. We have since adopted another greyhound, who is lovely, we are enjoying getting to know her and she's brilliant but there will always be a big space in my heart for my older girl.

petlangsyne · 31/12/2020 17:29

It's a horrible shock when they go quickly isn't it? Hard to talk to non pet lovers of the pain of it. I'm glad you've got another dog - no two are ever the same.

We lost our girl on Jan the 3rd 2020.
We have since got a pup as I couldn't stand the house without a dog. Lockdown amplified it.

I still cry about her
Our sympathy card from the vets is still on the mantel. Miss her so much.

Our ddog had cancer in 2018-recovered so well . Sadly came back as a brain tumour this year. Pts on Shrove Tuesday after 2 pancakes with Nutella..
RIP my beautiful girl.

We lost our boy in April and I'm still welling up when I remember particular things. I was vacuuming earlier and the memory of him shooting out from under the bed to kill the the vacuum. The photo is him as young puppy and he made it to 15 years old.

So sorry for everyone who has lost a dog this year.

I always get sad at this time of year as I lost one if mine on 29 December 2017. Her ashes came back New Year's Eve. Still miss her.

Lottieskeeper · 31/12/2020 22:07

2020 has been a bad one for dogs in my family.
Alfie the 16 year old Springer had a brain tumour and was PTS in June.
Jemma, Alfie's mum came to the end of her life in August just 3 months short of being 20.
They've left big holes in our hearts and lives but we're not getting any more dogs until the children are a bit older and understand to be gentle with dogs.

TheDogsMother · 31/12/2020 22:10

Another one of the Russler in his prime. Thanks to all of you.

Ahh thank you for starting this thread OP. My lovely boy died 12 days ago. He had lymphoma and was PTS in the end. I’m waiting to receive his ashes.

Thanks to all you who are missing a fur baby .

This time last year, we had just had our lab pointer cross diagnosed with anaemia due to failing bone marrow - we were told on December 27th that she had days, maybe a couple of weeks left. We took her home, and she had about a week of days that were as good as we could make them, and then, early in the new year, she collapsed, and it was clear it was time to make the hard decision, and she was put to sleep that day.

We still miss our Mia so much.

So many lovely babies. So sorry for you all. They leave a massive hole in your life when they go. Life without dogs just isn’t the same at all.

MyDogsAreBeautiful · 31/12/2020 22:34

We lost our beautiful dog this year. He was just a puppy at 8 months old. Unbelievably he had cancer and it all happened very, very quickly. We are all still completely devastated that we lost him at such a young age, our lovely vet could not believe it when he got the results. He was growing up to be the most gentle boy. I feel so angry at the complete unfairness of losing him so young but so lucky to have had him in our lives, even if it was for such a short time.

Sending much love to all those who have also lost their beautiful dogs. ❤️

IrmaFayLear · 31/12/2020 22:36

@smallsteps88 my lovely gr died in March of cancer. He was the best. I have shed a tear every single day since. I still can’t believe he’s not going to pad into the room any minute now... Sad

dublingirl66 · 31/12/2020 22:37

I'm so sorry

Lucky dogs to have such lovely owners ❤️❤️

smallsteps88 · 31/12/2020 22:42

💔 @IrmaFayLear

Same. I keep going to talk to him, expecting him to be lying by the bathroom door when I come out. Even the Dc keep coming to tell me they just started talking to him before realising he wasn’t there.

JazzyGeoff · 31/12/2020 22:44

Flowers to all. Such lovely dogs.

We lost our beautiful boy in Dec 2015- that NYE was the most painful one I ever had, and even a few years on, I always take a few moments to think about him, and the fact that we're going into a new year without him.

@MyDogsAreBeautiful. Losing a young pet is especially hard I think- most of the articles, postings and writings deal with losing animals that have lived full lives with their humans. There is a unique grief that comes with losing a puppy, they are so child like and innocent, it just feels really unfair.
