Do you sing to your dog?

Spidey66 · 30/11/2020 15:49

My husband thinks I'm barking (see what I did there) btw. But I'm always making up daft songs for the dog, usually replacing her name for another name in a song.

Her name's Maggie, so for example I'll sing the 80s song Mickey but replace ''Mickey'' for ''Maggie''. Or I'll sing the theme tune to Rupert (showing my age there) but instead of Rupert the Bear, it will be Maggie the Dog.

Please tell me I'm not alone, before my husband gets me sectioned.

I don’t sing to her, but I have downloaded a couple of Spotify playlists for dogs for her

heatseeker14 · 30/11/2020 16:53

I’m another one who sings a modified version of copacabana @TokyoSushi and @Muffinbutton. Also the Cat Steven’s song same as you @Audreyseyebrows. I use the baby shark tune but change the lyrics to baby dog.
I also talk to my dog using a stupid voice sometimes. He seems to like it. I’m glad I’m not the only one!😄

Idunnowhoo · 30/11/2020 16:56

Yes all the time. I have chihuahuas so frequently play them the Chihuahua song on Alexa and sing and dance with them. My Girl is a another favourite!xx

I went to download dog TV for mine as saw it pop up on amazon. Then realised it cost the same as bloody Netflix! I decided that the dog can just watch bloody Netflix
LionessRoar · 30/11/2020 17:03

All the time, and they even have a special good morning song I sing to them when I wake up! 😂

Nanasueathome · 30/11/2020 17:07

My dog sings along with me, she throws her head back and howls in time to the music
Her specialty is ‘Happy Birthday’ and we always face time people on their day for her to sing to them

MadCatLady71 · 30/11/2020 17:21

Constantly. I have composed some great songs for my dog and for my cats. I imagine my DP is terribly sad and jealous that I have never composed a song for him.

Youandmealwaysandforever · 30/11/2020 17:31

Sorry to barge in on the doghouse thread, love dogs BTW.
I used to sing my user name to my sadly departed, lap cat. He mostly loved it but sometimes he would sit up and put his paw over my mouth.
Bloody critics Grin

Sazlock · 30/11/2020 17:35

All the time !! Drives everyone else in the house mad. How much is that doggy in the window etc and lots of made up nonsense. He doesn’t seem to mind too much although how would I know 🤣

GeidiPrimes · 30/11/2020 17:42

I do, but he doesn't seem to like music (or my voice, I realise they are two different things Grin)

But one of my cats loves it - I sing 'baby baby, you're so lazy/crazy' (depends) in a really deep, raunchy rock star voice. My poor neighbours.

TheDogsMother · 30/11/2020 17:50

I composed a song for late DDog when he was a pup. Really all about how small he was and how much of a stinker ! I'm not sure what he thought about it Grin

JeremyIronsBenFolds · 30/11/2020 17:50

Oh god, years ago I started singing ‘Just the Two of Us’ to ddog when I was taking him out for a walk on my own. It’s now turned into one of his cues - I can just speak the words ‘just the...’ and he’ll start hurling himself at the front door.

I also like to sing ‘everybody’s got a hungry dog’ to the tune of Hungry Heart when I’m feeding him, but that one hasn’t caught on in the same way...

pigsDOfly · 30/11/2020 18:05

Yes, I've made up several little songs over the years.

Not sure if she likes them as she's never commented, well not in her own voice, only in the voice that I've made up for her, in which she'll sometimes sing along.

I also have a tendency to have 'conversations' with her when we're out on a walk.

Fortunately I live in a very quiet area and often hardly see other people on walks.

Think I'm turning into the local 'weird old woman'.

Giggorata · 30/11/2020 18:48

We have the Horrible Dog song and the Feed the Dogs song, to the tune of Feed the World. Occasionally, no, no, no ,no, no, no, there’s no dinner.
One of ours is called Lola, so we have her name is Lola, she was a show dog...and L lo lo lo lo lah, which she goes wild to.
Other dog has a much more unusual name, so we have to adapt a Scottish folk song for her. She's the one who will sometimes join in.
There are others, but I’m sounding mad enough as it is...

Spidey66 · 30/11/2020 19:23

I'm going to sing My Lovely Dog to her now (the version they had the video for, not the one they ended up losing with,)

Anyway thanks for reassuring me that I won't have my GP, a section 12 approved doctor and an AMHP round my house to take me to hospital. Or if they do, I can show them this thread as proof of my sanity.

For those who have more than one dog - do you have different songs for each one?

heatseeker14 · 30/11/2020 21:27

@Giggorata, love your there’s no dinner
song. 😂

TheLadyOfShallnott · 30/11/2020 21:33

I used to sing ‘you are my sunshine’ to my girl.

She wasn’t just my sunshine. She was my everything.

somethinginthewater · 30/11/2020 21:58

I thought everyone did....

Also, whenI go out I ask Alexa to play a Mozart clarinet concerto for them.

LoveFall · 30/11/2020 22:28

Ddog likes to shake his little Lambchop stuffed toy. So I sing:

Shake shake shake, shake shake shake, shake that Lambchop, shake that Lambchop!

I am quite sure he likes it because he shakes even harder.

He also has a stuffed rat-like thing we call Ratty, so he gets Shake that Ratty as well.

I have other little songs but they are too silly for anyone but the dog and DH who pretty much just rolls his eyes.

ColonelNobbyNobbs · 30/11/2020 22:36

No dog unfortunately but I do sing to the cats. Love songs or one of them is called Engels so I replace the word Angels with her name. ‘There must be an Engels, and she’s playing with my heart’ etc.

occa · 01/12/2020 02:09

Yes I sing to mine all the time. One in particular absolutely loves singing and so he has his own special song. If I stop halfway through without finishing it he gives a massive sigh and sulks. Grin

BernardsarenotalwaysSaints · 01/12/2020 02:19

I do. She had a rousing rendition of Lillibulero/The Farmers Curst Wife on the viola this afternoon. She sits nicely in front of me & doesn't howl when I play &/or sing although does sometimes have a concerned look on her face so I think she likes it.

TheLadyOfShallnott · 01/12/2020 02:24

I’m thinking my sister’s dog is going to be very disappointed with 3 blind mice on the recorder...Confused
