Hi all! Our gorgeous girl is 13 weeks old now and we have had her for 2 weeks. All going well but I did want to chat to other Jack Russel/Shi-Tzu cross owners to hear about your doggies!

Pup is quite docile most of the time and only barks when really playing. She is getting used to walks out and about but she is really little so a bit scared of cars and noises.

She is very cuddly.

I’d love to hear about your boys and girls.

Jack-Tzu, anyone?

She's very cute but ffs she's a cross breed

Atalune · 12/11/2020 13:17

@helloxhristmas yeah she is a cross? I don’t know what you mean?

Atalune · 12/11/2020 13:21

What do you mean?
IHeartHounds · 12/11/2020 13:28

What did she mean?

I think she was just letting us all know how pleasant she is.

Mandalalorianna · 12/11/2020 13:44

I can't imagine a jr/shih tzu Cross. My shih tzus are mega lazy, Jr's are mega bouncy! What sort of temperament does a cross have?

Derbee · 12/11/2020 14:03

I think @helloxhristmas is making a bitchy reference to a lot of people on MN hating the cutesy names for mongrels. Clearly this isn’t what has happened on this post, but some people don’t like to pass up an opportunity to criticise. Grin

Atalune · 12/11/2020 14:09

@Mandalalorianna she’s a bit of both I think. She will rest/sleep of an eve for a couple of hours on our lap and takes afew naps in the day. But she will also leap around like a mad thing too.

She’s very biddable.

She's gorgeous OP but yes you must don your hard hat if you want to talk about a cross breed in The Doghouse

Atalune · 12/11/2020 14:25

@carolebaskinfedhimtothetigers Oh I see. She’s not welcome round these parts? Bit like lady and the tramp?! Grin

She’s a mongrel then. That’s ok. I don’t mind. I didn’t want a designer dog anyway. It just worked out like that. We did want a shitzu, but she’s a lovely thing. So we are very happy.

I think she means your dog is a mongrel so not a breed, which means no one else has the same breed, there is nothing to compare to.

She is cute though.

Atalune · 12/11/2020 15:49

@sashh oh it’s not a KC breed that’s for sure but there are plenty of this type of cross I think.

Mandalalorianna · 12/11/2020 17:27

She sounds adorable. Enjoy Smile

DotTheCaddy · 12/11/2020 20:40

I dont have one but she is mega cute Grin

sashh · 13/11/2020 05:33

@Atalune

Sorry I wasn't clearer. Yes there are others with the same cross but unlike, say a labrador, they have not been bred for specific traits in behaviour.

People who have labs will usually tell you they are greedy, good with children and a bit thick at times.

Boarder collies try to round things up, sheep obviously but children, chickens, even cars.

There was a thread about a week ago asking about experiences of golden retrievers, there were loads of replies, we could almost javer been talking about the same dog.

Your little cutie will have her own personality but it may be totally different to another with the same mix of parents / grandparents.

bluebluezoo · 13/11/2020 05:37

Where did you get her from, out of interest?

Did you pay a fortune, puppies seem to be going for ££££££££ in lockdown.

YerAWizardHarree · 13/11/2020 07:58

The only jack russel x shitzu I know is a shit. He honestly is the most ridiculous dog ever, barks and growls at everything but because he's small and fluffy it's 'cute' but he bit me in the pub the day before lockdown because I walked a bit too close to their table. So work on socialisation!

Atalune · 13/11/2020 09:01

yer thanks for the heads up on that! She is starting her puppy socialising classes at the weekend.

So far her temperament seems to be very calm and friendly. I think we got lucky.

blue we did pay over the odds for her but not crazy amount. Not 4 figures! We were lucky as it’s someone we knew so we were able to get a slightly better deal than most. My friend is getting a black lab next week £1800.

Hovverry · 16/11/2020 20:41

We have a JR cross and I hoped he would be more like the other half but he’s all terrier. I’ve heard, since getting ours, that the JR always predominates. Just warning you!

Atalune · 16/11/2020 22:40

Oh yeah I hope the JR spark is there for sure! She likes playing and walking and she’s getting more confident with playing with other dogs.

She barely barks and loves sitting on our lap too. She’s been very very responsive to no nipping-biting.

Nooneelse · 16/11/2020 22:58

Our little Jackshit is called Dash and he is 2. He belongs to my daughter who is autistic. He provides company and is very responsive to her when she has a meltdown.
He is adorable, he's got lots of energy, is clever and cheeky...likes to steal socks. He loves to snuggle up like a baby and doze off early evening. He does have a defensive side, and if a dog snaps at him he will retaliate, so we keep him on lead at all times. He gets on very well with our old male lab and our female springer.
We tried to get a small rescue dog as all previous pets have been rescue, but were unsuccessful as none would rehome a small dog to us with our big old lab. So I bought him from a lovely lady as a pup, twas an accidental litter...he was £280, which is roughly the cost of a rescue.
Your little lady looks delightful and I hope she brings you lots of fun Smile

I'm a Jack Russell lover but I'd have one of these just for the name. I know it's not AIBU but you ABU not to call her a Jack shit! 😆. Fwiw my jrt does not bark in the house ever and goes to bed as soon as the first person in the house does (usually my 7 year old) and doesn't get up til the last (usually my 10 year old) she'll bed hop where necessary. She's non stop when out but pretty calm in the house. They aren't all completely bonkers all the time

Designer is actually a name for crossbreed example... Jack tzu, labradoodle, chorkie ect....not pedigree so you've got the designer. Reason for crossing these names together is so people pay more and the less experienced think they are something special not that all dogs aren't special but it's all to do with the ££££££'s the ones I find funny are 3quarters one breed a quarter the other so that makes them full of whatever the 3 quarters are 🤦‍♀️

OPs dog is a crossbreed not a mongrel crossbreed = 2 breeds
Mongrel anything more than two
