Dog DNA - any guesses?

Yay the first kit has arrived. I’m predicting beagle, Italian greyhound and definitely some kind of terrier mix.

Hard to go by behavioural traits as it’s only week 3 and she was quite traumatised (dumped after having puppies, always lived outside before rehomed to me) but judging by appearances what do you think?

@Grumpyoldpersonwithcats

Can't wait to hear the designer breed name you come up for this Grin. Really like the idea of having a part Prague Ratter. Love your dog btw - NDN has a Greek (Heinz 57) rescue, and (speaking as a cat person) she's the nicest dog I've ever met!
Awww thanks 😀 there is something quite different about these dogs isn’t there? I love all animals but there is something extra and beyond not so much to love but to appreciate with dogs who are more a product of natural selection than selective breeding and who are raised by dogs who were raised by dogs who were raised by dogs for however many generations. A more doglike sort of dog to hang out with!

@GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman

Honestly, looking at that I'd say she's 75% ancestral street dog and 25% from actual breeds. We had a street dog when I was tiny and he was an absolutely wonderful dog, tolerant and gentle.

I hope your one is still enjoying her new life.

Yeah one of the testing companies does call it something like ‘European village dog’ or ‘street dog’ and I don’t know if it’s possible to tell whether any genetic overlap with selectively bred breeds comes before or after or both? She has an exceptionally high level of heterozygosity which is great for genetic health problems obviously. It was the health reports I was most interested in with the wisdompanel test, I really wanted to know about any potential problems with commonly prescribed meds or blood clotting after surgery etc etc before I needed to know. But I do love the family tree they suggest - it’s like 23andme for dogs.

@XelaM

Wow, no beagle and no lab/retriever! But you do have spaniel in there Grin
Yay for spaniel! A whole 6%! Her best and most compatible friend is a sprocker, they hunt wild bunnies happily together and have no disputes about anything but they’ve known a kind of freedom in their early lives most dogs never get to experience. Which is sad. But obviously it’s not very safe out there for the average dog to roam freely, certainly not in the uk unless you’re a really substantial landowner?

Oh and allegedly there’s Tibetan spaniel in there too 😍

@caringcarer

A bit of everything then I was surprised to see Lhasa Apso in there as we have 2 and look nothing like your dog.
I know! And never mind the Lhasa Apso - 21% Dutch shepherd?! She’s so small (about 13kg now which is possibly a bit on the tubby side). Maybe in the eyes? I think these reports are obviously more for entertainment than anything but all the physical traits are spot on: coat colour (fawn) tail and leg length, white markings, a ‘saddle’ of coarse hair where the rest is very thick, dense and soft (like a rabbit) etc etc so there could be something in the breed attribution too?

Oh my goodness those ears though 😍😍😍😍 I wouldn’t have known where to begin with guessing those breeds! Which company did you test with?
