Neighbour complaint about dog weeing

Keepyourginup · 27/09/2020 18:43

My DH was walking the dog earlier. Walked past a house at the other end of the road while neighbour was doing some work (sanding something down or the like) on his drive. The neighbour (we don't know him, long street and he is the other week end) stopped DH and said 'i noticed your dog did a wee on the car tyre earlier, please don't let him do that, it can affect tyre pressures'. My DH was a bit surprised and said something like ' I'll try to move him on but if he starts to wee, I can't stop him'. Neighbour then started getting a bit arsey and rude, DH walked off and said 'I'm just walking my dog mate'. The car in question was parked on the pavement....the neighbour has a drive but doesn't use it. We would never let our dog wee on a garden and would always pull him away from someone's property, but is the neighbour being unreasonable to moan about a dog doing a wee on a car tyre when it's parked on a pavement?? (and he's got a perfectly good drive). I've said that in future I'll walk him on the other side of the road as I don't want the neighbour to have a go at me. DH says I shouldn't have to and that the dog is doing nothing wrong and neighbour shouldn't complain if his car in on the pavement. Opinions please.....

Errr if my dog started weeing on someone’s car I would pull him away pretty sharpish.

A fence or hedge is fine, but a car?? Why would you think that’s ok?

Think you were in the wrong here.

suziesue45 · 27/09/2020 18:50

The rain will wash it off and far worse things happen to cars when they are left in carparks or public areas. Plus bird shit is far worse for paint work than dog wee, which doesn't affect the tyre pressure at all. Hes being ridiculous.

Keepyourginup · 27/09/2020 18:50

Well it wasn't me, it was my DH. And I'm asking because the car was parked on the pavement - which are meant to be for pedestrians, not cars.

As PP stated, I'd pull my dog away not let him continue peeing up soneones car, its a bit rude

Pringlemonster · 27/09/2020 18:52

I’ve 3 dogs to walk
I’d never allow them to wee on someone’s car
That’s really sticking to fingers up at them

CarolVordermansBum · 27/09/2020 18:52

I think you were in the wrong too, sorry! Can't imagine my dog cocking his leg against someone's car tyre and me just standing there watching

RunningFromInsanity · 27/09/2020 18:52

Where the car was parked is irrelevant. You got an issue with that you sort it properly.

If the urine had got on the paint work you could’ve damaged it, maybe that’s dramatic but I think it’s a really scummy thing to do for the sake of pulling your dog a metre away.

CarolVordermansBum · 27/09/2020 18:53

p.s where its parked is irrelevant

LiveFromHome · 27/09/2020 18:53

I'd never allow my dog to wee on someone's car.

Shakirasma · 27/09/2020 18:54

Just because it's on a pavement it doesn't make it fair game, its disgusting and I would be annoyed if I saw it. Loads of cars on the pavement round here, I would never let ddog do that!

StitchInTimeSavesNine · 27/09/2020 18:54

I would t let my dog wee on anything that belonged to someone. Including their car.

Thisisnotnormal69 · 27/09/2020 18:55

Agree with others, that’s pretty shitty manners of your DH

LadyLovelyLockz · 27/09/2020 18:56

I wouldn't be happy if a dog pissed up against my car at all. It makes no bloody difference where it is parked. Just drag the dog on - and I say that as a dog owner. Keep a tighter heel near places where he isnt allowed to pee and dont be so scuzzy.

Keepyourginup · 27/09/2020 18:56

Goodness me, people are getting very agro! As I've already said, it was my husband, not me. The dog did a little wee (he's a small male puppy and cocks his leg every 2 minutes on walks). It was on the base of a tyre, nowhere near the paint work.

OP posts:
ColleagueFromMars · 27/09/2020 18:58

Obviously it doesn't affect tyre pressures but a dog owner should know enough about dog body language and behaviour and be socially aware enough to be able to prevent their dog peeing on somebody's car and to understand why its anti- social.

Back to dog school for your OH.

A short lead and a marching pace would have prevented it

Louiselouie0890 · 27/09/2020 18:59

Just no, pull dog and move on. It is a preety shitty thing to do

Lolaloveslemonade · 27/09/2020 18:59

Wow. You don’t let your dog wee on someone’s car ffs.
Or their fence, house, bike, driveway.
Your DH sounds like an arse.

RaspberryHartleys · 27/09/2020 19:00

Not sure what the car being on the pavement has to do with anything. Yes, it's for pedestrians - would you let your dog pee on a person? No? So dont let it pee on other things in pedestrian areas Hmm

Treacletoots · 27/09/2020 19:01

This does seem to be a little bit more about you being annoyed at your neighbour's inconsiderate parking and feeling the dog weeing on it as a sort of getting one over on them.

Given that dog wee on a tyre never did anyone any harm I think he's being ridiculous.

However I do feel the real issue here is the parking, so you really should just go ahead and tell him to park on his drive. We love a good parking thread

DownThePlath · 27/09/2020 19:01

Who's getting "agro"? Everyone's simply just stating you shouldn't let your dog piss on people's cars.

Lolaloveslemonade · 27/09/2020 19:01

You obviously think it’s ok too OP. Just a little wee? Really? 😡

toomanyplants · 27/09/2020 19:02

It's a no from me.
Regardless if it's a tiny dog doing a mini wee or a Great Dane doing a huge piss.
Dont let your pooch just urinate on peoples cars, it's rude as hell.

Wolfiefan · 27/09/2020 19:04

Of course you can move your dog on. And you can keep it on a short lead too. Regardless of where the car is parked, you shouldn’t be letting your dog pee on it.

LiveFromHome · 27/09/2020 19:06

Lol at "agro".

Are you new here? Try posting this on AIBU, then you'll know agro.

Giggorata · 27/09/2020 19:07

No, this out of order. Even if the urine doesn't affect paintwork or tyres, it bloody reeks.
I had a beloved male dog for years, but I couldn't sit in the garden, because all those little wees marking the gatepost, the tyres, etc stunk to high Heaven. 🤮 We used to clean it all with Jeyes Fluid, which was the only thing to get rid of it, but then the whole garden stunk of Jeyes!
When he went, I switched to females.
