Neighbour complaint about dog weeing

Keepyourginup · 27/09/2020 18:43

My DH was walking the dog earlier. Walked past a house at the other end of the road while neighbour was doing some work (sanding something down or the like) on his drive. The neighbour (we don't know him, long street and he is the other week end) stopped DH and said 'i noticed your dog did a wee on the car tyre earlier, please don't let him do that, it can affect tyre pressures'. My DH was a bit surprised and said something like ' I'll try to move him on but if he starts to wee, I can't stop him'. Neighbour then started getting a bit arsey and rude, DH walked off and said 'I'm just walking my dog mate'. The car in question was parked on the pavement....the neighbour has a drive but doesn't use it. We would never let our dog wee on a garden and would always pull him away from someone's property, but is the neighbour being unreasonable to moan about a dog doing a wee on a car tyre when it's parked on a pavement?? (and he's got a perfectly good drive). I've said that in future I'll walk him on the other side of the road as I don't want the neighbour to have a go at me. DH says I shouldn't have to and that the dog is doing nothing wrong and neighbour shouldn't complain if his car in on the pavement. Opinions please.....

I also don’t think OP will be back, I’m another who is quite horrified and would absolutely not allow my dog to pee on others property, be it cars, garden walls, whatever.
It’s incredibly rude and if I was unable to stop the dog and was then challenged over it as your DH was I would have apologised profusely.

Staringpoodleplottingrottie · 28/09/2020 12:45

I must be in a minority because I can’t imagine giving a shit if a dog peed on my car. It’s a car. It lives outside. It’s probably going to get worse than dog piss on it at some point, like bird poo.

doctorhamster · 28/09/2020 12:51

It's not ok to let a dog pee on a car. Even if it's only a tiny dog doing a tiny wee.

Disfordarkchocolate · 28/09/2020 12:53

We never let the dog wee on someone's car. I'd have been too startled to do anything if someone told me dog wee impacted on tyre pressure.

JacobReesMogadishu · 28/09/2020 12:56

It's grim to let your dog do that though neighbour is talking bollocks about tyre pressures.

I have to unscrew my dustcap quite frequently to put more air in my tyres. I don't touch the dirty tyre but I assume that the dustcap is cleanish....I'd certainly like to think a dog hasn't pissed all over it.

I'm a dog owner btw. I wouldn't let my dog do it. He's allowed to park on the road so the fact he has a drive is pointless.

nothingcanhurtmewithmyeyesshut · 28/09/2020 13:02

It's not very classy to let your dog wee on people's property. I'd think you were a bit scummy tbh. No consideration what so ever.

This. You don't let your dog piss on someone's things. Where the heck was your husband dragged up that he thinks that is ok?

DeliciouslyFemale · 28/09/2020 13:02

It’s fair game, as far as I’m concerned. I don’t let my dogs wee on bins, gates, gate posts or cars parked on the road, but if your car has it’s wheels on the pavement, then I let them pish all over the wheels. The pavement is meant for feet, pram, wheelchair users or small children riding responsibly, not cars. I get seriously fucked if when I have to take a stroller or in the past my husband in his chair, onto the road, because lazy fuckers won’t park responsibly or walk from a proper parking spot. Pish away puppies and enjoy. I hope it rusts your nuts.

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 28/09/2020 13:04

Do you let your dog piss on people if they are standing on the pavement?

Considering the pavement is for feet, I don’t see the connection. 🤷🏻‍♀️
Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 28/09/2020 13:05

If the car had been on the road, would your dh not have allowed the do to piss on it?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 28/09/2020 13:07

Considering the pavement is for feet, I don’t see the connection.

Well apparently they can't pull the dog away once its started pissing, so how would they stop it..
What about a pram, if you don't like the people comparison?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 28/09/2020 13:07

Someone's wheelchair maybe?

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 28/09/2020 13:08

The OP seems to think its ok because something is on the pavement, its fair game for her dog to urinate on it, thats the connection Hmm

Check my original comment. Pavements are also meant for prams. It doesn’t matter how many ‘what abouts’ you use, pavements are not meant for cars. 🐕 💦 🚘
Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 28/09/2020 13:11

Whats your point? Because the car shouldn't technically be there, dogs are free to piss all over it?

luckylavender · 28/09/2020 13:11

No way would I have let my dog wee on anyone's tyre & I would be cross if it happened to me.

custardbear · 28/09/2020 13:19

OP - is this wrong ... surely not?!

Everyone except 1 person- yes

OP - don't get agro

Everyone - we're not

OP - it's only a small dog

Everyone - doesn't matter, it's rude and unacceptable

OP - gives MN the silent treatment

Everyone - don't care - pissing on someone's property whether a person or a dog is disgusting - dog wee stinks! 🤢 let your pooch leave it's wee-mail elsewhere

heatseeker14 · 28/09/2020 13:24

I would not let ddog pee up a car wheel regardless of whether it was parked on the pavement or the road. He quite often stops to sniff bins when they are put out for collection, but I don’t let him stop for too long because I wouldn’t want him peeing on someone’s bin.

Flowerpot345 · 28/09/2020 13:25

I wouldnt let my dog wee on anybodys garden or property.
You and your husband sound really inconsiderate, If you know your dog is prone to weeing everywhere keep them on a short lead away from peoples property, that way you wont have to try and pull them away.
Its scummy don't do it.

ticktackted · 28/09/2020 13:44

Most dog owners try to pull their dogs away from cars & gardens. People parking on the pavement is hugely selfish for lots of reasons, and is going to make it harder for people to pull their dogs away since it leaves so little space, so he's creating this problem for himself. He can't will every dog or owner in the world to catch every wee before it happens. So the neighbour is being unreasonable. Also tyre pressure?! In what universe 😂 but I do also think your husband was maybe a bit rude. Basically I think the Mumsnet-rarity: they were both being a bit unreasonable and both had a bit of a point.

thriftyhen · 28/09/2020 13:46

You are all so precious! It's only dog wee, not Novichock! I bet you're all townies. Drive into any farmyard round here and the first thing the dogs do is wee on your car tyres. It's a form of greeting! Grin

This actually happened to me.

I was waiting to go into a puppy training class, chatting to another puppy owner, while we waited for the previous class to finish.

Previous class comes out, and some dog, I'm assuming it was a dog rather than a young puppy as it must have been old enough to cock its leg, peed up the back of my leg, not just my ankle but right up my calf. I was wearing jeans so didn't notice until it soaked through the material.

Okay, it was dark but its idiot owner much have realised the bloody thing was peeing. Who the hell stands there and lets their dog pee on someone and then walks off; we can all guess what sort of owner he's going to be.

Anyway, it's never acceptable to allow your dog to pee on other people or their property, be that their car, garden, drive or house.

Justmuddlingalong · 28/09/2020 14:08

If it's just a little puppy, doing little wees, then it's an ideal time to start training it and whoever's walking it.

Ellapaella · 28/09/2020 14:41

@pigsDOfly happened to me as well but said dog peed all over my rucksack that I had put down next to me while sitting on the beach! It happened before I had a chance to react.
The owner was very apologetic but seriously, if you know your dog likes to mark their territory by peeing on peoples property and objects then keep the little fu*%er on a lead!
OP - I am a dog owner and would not let my dog do this - it's easy to train your dog to pee in a particular place but obviously training involves work and effort but it's really necessary if you want to be a responsible dog owner. So is training them to have good recall.

Whatthebloodyell · 28/09/2020 14:56

Sounds to me like it was your DH who was arsey and rude. Why didn’t he just nod and walk on?
