Neighbour complaint about dog weeing

Keepyourginup · 27/09/2020 18:43

My DH was walking the dog earlier. Walked past a house at the other end of the road while neighbour was doing some work (sanding something down or the like) on his drive. The neighbour (we don't know him, long street and he is the other week end) stopped DH and said 'i noticed your dog did a wee on the car tyre earlier, please don't let him do that, it can affect tyre pressures'. My DH was a bit surprised and said something like ' I'll try to move him on but if he starts to wee, I can't stop him'. Neighbour then started getting a bit arsey and rude, DH walked off and said 'I'm just walking my dog mate'. The car in question was parked on the pavement....the neighbour has a drive but doesn't use it. We would never let our dog wee on a garden and would always pull him away from someone's property, but is the neighbour being unreasonable to moan about a dog doing a wee on a car tyre when it's parked on a pavement?? (and he's got a perfectly good drive). I've said that in future I'll walk him on the other side of the road as I don't want the neighbour to have a go at me. DH says I shouldn't have to and that the dog is doing nothing wrong and neighbour shouldn't complain if his car in on the pavement. Opinions please.....

@Keepyourginup

Goodness me, people are getting very agro! As I've already said, it was my husband, not me. The dog did a little wee (he's a small male puppy and cocks his leg every 2 minutes on walks). It was on the base of a tyre, nowhere near the paint work.
Sometimes you have to come to the conclusion that if everyone else but you is getting 'very agro' (which they're not, by the way, I think everyone has stated their view quite reasonably) then perhaps it's you that's in the wrong.

It doesn't matter how small or how old your dog is. You shouldn't (or your OH shouldn't) be letting it piss on someone else's property.

Suzi888 · 28/09/2020 15:05

I think your neighbour is being ridiculous, does he think the roads are cleaned in prep for him to drive on Grin god knows what he’s driving through. Pee, poo, phlegm, blood, animal guts...

DeliciouslyFemale · 28/09/2020 15:18

I love the fact most posters are more offended by a dog pissing on a car wheel, than the fact the car was on a pavement, making it more difficult for others, especially those who use wheelchairs, proms, to get by. Shows the priorities a lot of posters have.

JaJaDingDong · 28/09/2020 15:24

bird shit is far worse for paint work than dog wee, which doesn't affect the tyre pressure at all. Hes being ridiculous.

It would affect the tyre pressure on my car if a dog weed on the valve. 🤢

@thriftyhen

You are all so precious! It's only dog wee, not Novichock! I bet you're all townies. Drive into any farmyard round here and the first thing the dogs do is wee on your car tyres. It's a form of greeting! Grin
I live in London but I agree with you.
BusterGonad · 28/09/2020 15:56

I don't think it's being precious to want your property respected, it's common decency to do so. The problem is so many people lack etiquette these days.

Maybe if car drivers that can park OFF the pavement, do so, the dogs won’t be permitted to piss on their wheels. 🤷‍♀️ I agree that common decency is definitely lacking on the part of inconsiderate car owners. I would consider it bad etiquette to inconvenience footpath users, especially those that need wider spaces, such as wheelchair users.
BusterGonad · 28/09/2020 18:00

Well yes Deliciousley there is that, but the point I'm making is that people are NOT precious to not want a dog to wee on the car.

vanillandhoney · 28/09/2020 18:43

I have to say I don't see the huge issue with it. I wouldn't let my dog do it, but I wouldn't get upset if I saw another dog peeing on my car.

I drive on roads covered in all manner of dirt, animal poo, dead animal and goodness knows what else. I just can't get worked up over some dog wee after all that. Cars get shat on by birds, peed on by cats, rats and god knows what else, all the time. I don't go around licking or sniffing my car tyres, after all!

But I do appreciate other people don't like it, so I don't allow any of the dogs in my care to do it. It does come across a bit like you can't be bothered to train or watch your dog.

thriftyhen · 29/09/2020 22:06

@Staringpoodleplottingrottie Thank you. I used to live in London too - a long time ago.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 29/09/2020 22:09

That is grim. Dog piss on a car. Urgh.

winetime89 · 29/09/2020 22:23

I don't think it's a big deal tbh, from what you say it's a puppy and has a little tiddle every so often.
my dogs a sniffer and takes hours to wall anywhere on lead because she's stopping to smell everything and ishe stops a lot at wee stains that a dog has done up someone's garden wall/fence. literary every few feet she's sniffing at another so a lot of dog owners must let them wee on peoples walls/ property.

Pipandmum · 29/09/2020 22:25

I don't let my dog sniff tires, or garbage bins or any property in front of someone's house. Your husband can stop the puppy from doing that.
I don't see what the car being on the pavement has anything to do with it.

AutumnSuns · 29/09/2020 22:26

NOPE OP, it’s not on sorry.

TPS2009 · 29/09/2020 22:29

Why would you let a dog piss on someone’s property full stop? No!

bluebluezoo · 29/09/2020 22:29

It’s only pee! Water, some salts and minerals.

Driving around a car will get far worse on it’s tyres. How do tyre valves cope in the rain and wet if it affects tyre pressure? What if you drive through hedgehog guts or hit a bird?

Same with fences and walls. It’ll rain soon enough and wash any remnants away.

Dog pee isn’t going to do any damage.

WitsEnding · 29/09/2020 22:32

@pigsDOfly, me too. I was sitting on the beach reading the paper. Owner apologised profusely without offering any assistance or clean-up. Like PP I suggested they put the dog on a lead before it did same to the next person, but they refused. Total scum.

WB205020 · 29/09/2020 22:46

Your husbands a twat for not stopping your dog. Completely unacceptable to allow it to happen. Fence or hedge is fine. Not someone’s car.

winetime89 · 30/09/2020 00:18

Oh come on there not total scum. They apologised.
A couple of months ago a dog came and did a wee on my sons bike whilst he was on it. Owner apologised and I told them not to worry, I wouldn't try and make them feel bad about it. These things happen sometimes

Micah · 30/09/2020 12:06

It would affect the tyre pressure on my car if a dog weed on the valve. 🤢

How? Does rain, or a puddle, or any other liquid on your tyre valve also affect the pressure?

Genuine question. I am struggling to see how dog wee on a tyre can affect its function, when cars are actually built to withstand rain, snow, wind, shallow rivers and puddles etc...

ekidmxcl · 30/09/2020 12:24

It's just really rude, disrespectful and grim for your DH to let your dog piss on someone's car wheels. It is also wrong for the car to be parked on the pavement but that is totally separate and absolutely nothing to do with allowing a dog to piss on the wheels!

If he starts to wee I can't stop him is utter rubbish and I'm not surprised the man got arsey. The puppy should have a harness that you can pull on without hurting him to move him away from the person's car.

JacobReesMogadishu · 30/09/2020 12:41

I drove my car through a 2ft deep flood and killed the engine. But the tyre pressures were fine. Grin

goodwinter · 30/09/2020 12:46

I don't let my dog wee on cars, people's bins, or around doorways. Anywhere else is pretty much fine imo.

steppemum · 30/09/2020 12:46

I don't let my dog wee on any cars.
I pull him away.

While I don't think it effects tyre pressure, my concern is that it might get on the paint, and wee is pretty acidic, so i wouldn't want it on anyone's car paint.

goodwinter · 30/09/2020 12:49

(I should clarify I wouldn't let him wee in someone's garden either, but he doesn't go into anyone's gardens so it's kind of moot)
