Just saw these on a wildlife documentary and I want one so much! It would almost certainly trash my house and rip my face off, but... so pretty.

@ThatLibraryMiss

I would love a black and tan hovawart, but (1) they're hard to come by in the UK and (2) I'm not in a place in my life for a big active dog. They are so beautiful, and the one I knew had a wonderful temperament.
Met one at crufts years ago. Gorgeous looking dog.
Ulelia · 27/09/2020 16:07

Our lab is nearly always upside down. In terms of behaviour, she's a dream breed.

Sunnydaysstillhere · 27/09/2020 16:15

My dgm lived Afghans.. She even had a joke..
Why is an Afghan called an Afghan?
Coz one bite and afghan's ya hand!!
She was so funny!!

AriesTheRam · 27/09/2020 16:24

A blue staffy the size of a Chihuahua is my dream dog Grin

TokyoSushi · 27/09/2020 16:27

I would love a St Bernard, I'd call him Bernard.

I saw some at Crufts, they were absolutely amazing, and massive!

Micah · 27/09/2020 18:11

I have my dream dog :)

Always wanted a yorkshire terrier. All I need in a dog, portable, trainable, will walk as much or as little as you like, great with other dogs and cats, fab little lap dog if you need a cuddle but also a feisty terrier for mousing. Good little alarm system too :)

They have a bit of a bad rep but they are proper dogs and need treating as such.

allfurcoatnoknickers · 27/09/2020 18:15

I'm a terrier lover and I really, really, really want a Skye terrier. I met some at a "meet the breeds" event and absolutely fell in love.

They're so rare that I doubt I'll ever get the opportunity to own one though :(

Foresttheout · 27/09/2020 18:22

I would also love an African wild dog they are such cool creatures and watching them is amazing sadly but yes they are very very effective killers something like 90% of their hunts are successful. There are a few habituated packs in the wild you can watch on foot from close range, sadly despite many hours looking I've only ever found them once in the wild and they moved on quickly

Definitelyrandom · 27/09/2020 19:52

Irish wolfhound or a St Bernard - but very happy with our greyhound (in case he reads this).

kelper · 27/09/2020 20:29

I would love a saluki, gorgeous hair that I could brush all the time.....
My mums neighbours have Samoyeds, they Bark. All. The. Time.

JonHammIsMyJamm · 27/09/2020 20:42

Curly coated retriever.

I have a lab (who is an absolute dream 99% of the time) and would love a Curly but they are so rare.

Neapolitain (?) Mastiff
Dogue de bordeaux
Harlequin great dane.
Newfie

I know someone who had a pyranean mountain dog, his head was shoulder level on her. Apparently he was so laid back he was horizontal until anyone threatened her. She's now downsized to an eurasian

Gingaaarghpussy · 27/09/2020 20:56

I have also met someone who had a westie, a scottie and a skye terrier. He came from Scotland too.

SourMilkGhyll · 27/09/2020 21:03

Used to watch an Afgan doing agility, was incredibly beautiful to watch.
Love watching the Newfies training in the water near us. Huge beasts.
DH's dream dog was an irish setter. Guess what he bought (himself) the children a Christmas present?! (Though obviously not actually at Christmas)

TooManyDogsandChildren · 27/09/2020 21:20

Puli here too, but would accept an Afghan instead.

CokeyCola · 28/09/2020 23:50

Otter hound. ♥️

CokeyCola · 29/09/2020 00:08

CMOTDibbler. Who do you foster puppies for? I'd love to.

CokeyCola · 29/09/2020 00:16

Actually any of the massive breeds would do me. Do any of them have a longer life span?

Catsup · 29/09/2020 00:40

We had a Dogue de Bordeaux that grew up alongside a teacup yorkie and fully believed they were the same size 🤣. Love big breeds but as pp stated for the most part they sadly don't have the longevity of little dogs that just keep on ticking along.

loopylindazdaughter · 29/09/2020 00:46

Chow chow 💙

Iminaglasscaseofemotion · 29/09/2020 00:52

A cane corso, but I would never have a dog that could over power me on its lead. I see too many people with big dogs they can't control and think its so irresponsible.

LeahDownTheLane · 29/09/2020 00:59

Pekingese, I have two but ten would be ideal.

CoolYourBeansMySon · 29/09/2020 01:27

I have loved googling the dogs on this thread! Gorgeous all of them.

My dream dog would be an Irish Wolfhound, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever or a German Shepherd.

But I love my two. My gentle dream boy (Kokoni) and my brattish girl (Collie) They'll do me.

Strokethefurrywall · 29/09/2020 03:31

A Leonberger has been my dream dog for years but I live in the Caribbean and it's horrendously hot even though we live right by the beach.

That being said, I've got two double coated dogs right now who cope well, but not sure how a big guy would deal.

I'd also have to purchase through a US/Canadian breeder and then ship so not ideal.

But my god I love them. I've decided my retirement gift to myself when I finally move somewhere less restrictive is a Leo.

Strokethefurrywall · 29/09/2020 03:34

This is my mini-Leo, Frank. He's only 80lbs.

He's a shepherd/retriever mix we think. Who knows, he was found under a car when he was 6 weeks old.

Sheds all over the place, got a bark that sounds like he'd bite your face off, but adores kids more than life itself, usually because they carry food at face height.

A total dickhead of a dog but I love him.
