Every time I tell people we've got a Border Terrier/ Patterdale cross pup I get the sympathetic looks and "ooh they canbe vicious/ trouble / you'll have your hands full/ oof why did you choose him".
So. I think I'm going to make breed up. DH suggestion was German shepherd crossed with Dalmatian Grin. Any advance on that as a conversation starter/ stopper ?!
I should say that every so often we get "omg I love Patterdale and yours is beautiful". But rarely. Give me your amusing suggestions. Pic attached for inspiration

Ludo19 · 21/09/2020 22:06

How about a PaBor? Sounds a bit more fancy😉

RandomMess · 21/09/2020 22:08

Miniature Labrador?

Sunnydaysstillhere · 21/09/2020 22:08

He looks like one of Santa's boots!!.
Tibooten terrier?
Grin

fivedogstofeed · 21/09/2020 22:08

He's clearly a cockerpoo.

RoSEbuds6 · 21/09/2020 22:11

Tea cup labradoodle?

RightOnTheEdge · 21/09/2020 22:13

Aww he's gorgeous!

I didn't know they had that kind of reputation. My friend used to have a Patterdale and she was a little superstar.
Vicious to rats but not to people. She was ace Smile

polkadotpjs · 21/09/2020 22:15

Maybe I'll combine those and say he's a California teacup black retriever. Confuse people. I know he's a mutt. I don't care. I love him. My old "mongrel" dog as a child would be a cocker poo now but a happy accident back then Grin. He's so loving and cuddly. I think I'd just like to be a bit naughty and make up a new breed !

Can't you just say she's a Heinz 57?

polkadotpjs · 21/09/2020 22:17

Oh but that would be boring. I'd like to entertain myself whilst defending his lovely nature !

He’s adorable but just so you know when you tap on the picture you can see a line of photos from your photo stream on your phone at the bottom

CherryPavlova · 21/09/2020 22:22

A labradale?

pigsDOfly · 21/09/2020 23:49

The only Patterdale terrier I've ever got to know was owned by a lovely old man I used to chat to in the park.

He was a lovely sweet dog, although he had his moments; not vicious, just a bit bossy.

Border Terriers have always seemed quite a handful to me, and I've known a few.

A dog from two different terrier breeds is probably going to be a bit full on I imagine, which is probably why you get that reaction OP

Shambolical1 · 22/09/2020 00:59

He's a Miniature Patterbor surely?

polkadotpjs · 22/09/2020 08:25

I know people aren't deliberately being scaremongery but after 10 weeks of comments I'm ready to have a bit of fun that's all - I may go bigger and say I found him under a bush -"what do you think he is?" And say I've no idea. I guess I wasn't ready for people offering their opinions so readily! I've always had adult dogs before. Maybe it's the puppiness that invites the discussion!

Black labrador - bonsai version

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 22/09/2020 08:50

Awwww sooo cute!!! He's clearly an elephant in disguise.

polkadotpjs · 22/09/2020 09:58

Now bonsai Labrador I love!! Can I carry it off with a straight face??!

We know our dog’s ancestry but he looks very like a completely different breed. I got tired of explanations and now agree that he’s whatever people think he is. Scottie? Yes. Cocker poo? Yes. Tibetan terrier? Yes.u

MrsVeryTired · 22/09/2020 17:31

Bonsai Labrador is fab, miniature patterdale retriever? Leave people wondering the mechanics of a retriever and a small terrier mating Grin

Wolfiefan · 22/09/2020 17:31

A Bordale?
Patterder?
A miniature Hellhound??
Vicious no. But Patterdales are notorious. Full of character and not the easiest to train. My mum has a Border and she’s a sweetheart with people but quite dog reactive.

Motorina · 22/09/2020 18:10

Hamster/wolf cross?

Seriously, loving 'bonsai labrador'.

YouUnlockedTheGateAnd · 22/09/2020 18:17

There was a guy on Twitter that used to make up breeds for his dog when asked at the park.

‘Yeah, she’s a purebred Oxnard Pike‘

He had a list somewhere of pretend breeds.
