Rescuing dog on Saturday please help

Hi I'm collecting a dog from our neighbours on Saturday that is in terrible condition. He's 13 ish, cries constantly and bangs into shit in the garden. He lives in a kennel and the rspca is not interested so I'm going to get him on Saturday. Obviously the first thing we need to do is take him to the vet, but he stinks so maybe he'll need a wash first?

He's so passive it makes me so sad, he's never been for a walk and it's only now we're able to talk to the neighbour about maybe giving him up.

Do we keep him away from our other dog? And he's never been inside so how do we transition him? I'm not a green dog owner but I've never actually picked a dog up away from its neglectful owners before.

He took some food from my hand and then licked my hand ! Gah I'm so proud! I know he might have to leave soon but he's doing so well! It upsets me so much that he's had such a shitty life and he's so trusting

Well I'm menopausally hormonal today and you just put tears in my eyes, thanks a lot! This so reminds me of my old rescue, who was as old as the hills to start with, then we had 7 wonderful years with him. He was so beaten down, timid and grateful it was heartbreaking. He turned out to be wonderful in every way except separation anxiety, which was fine as I was going nowhere and loved his attention! Keep going, even if the outcome is to have to put him to sleep. You've done such a kind thing and given him love and sweet dreams at last. Our boy had terrible teeth and a heart murmur. He'd been a stray and had been scrounging. I tried him on all sorts, but the only thing he'd eat and keep down was the cheap Bakers wet food, yuk but hey ho!

The soppy side has decided to cwtch in to DH's legs for the first time today and allowed an ear scratch, you know the man who doesn't feed him, doesn't let him out much, doesn't interact with him
Because he cowered from him last week and then growled at him 😂 never mind!

@sunglassesonthetable one ignored him completely and the other one is in love with him, licks him clean when he's trying to sleep which I'm sure he loves I do try and stop her when she starts though. She put her head on his back today and fell asleep and he didn't kick her off. I'm a bit surprised tbh as he definitely hasn't been with dogs before but I'm keeping an eye on it too because I don't want to become complacent and him be overwhelmed and kick off

Oh I am! I thought it would be so much harder! He doesn't bark, he doesn't howl, he doesn't chew things, he sleeps a lot, and likes to come for ear scratches a fair bit, he can't decide what bed is best so he hops between all 3! He is such a sweet dog, I can't get my head round how someone can do this to an old dog. He's so trusting. I hope he wags his tail soon!
He's associated me with sausages now so he follows me round hopefully
