Dog sleeping on bed

Do you let your dog sleep in your bed? We've gone for not allowed on sofa to a 26kg on our bed. It wasn't intentional but now don't know how to break it. He's a very nervous rescue. It's now to the extent he waits for me to turn of livingroom light, fill my water then he walks up to bed like 'ok now we're off to bed'. Any harm in it? Can I stop it?

Yes I have an 18kg lump of fluff on my bed, who has kicked my DH out of the marital bed! He also snores worse than my DH! He's a member of the family, not a pet, that's how I justify it.

I love my dogs but they stink (even when groomed and bathed etc) and shed hair everywhere. I can’t imagine this on my bed.

Yes I do, my dog is such a comfort to me and I love having him in bed with me and I know he feels the same!

Ours sleeps on her own bed (she has two) in our bedroom, but at about 5/6am she sneaks onto the bed and somehow under the duvet. She's a 22kg basset so we must be heavy sleepers!

No, the dog is not even allowed upstairs.

Our dog sleeps on a double bed in his own room , he has to share with ds when he’s here but that is not very often at the moment . He always ( the dog that is) starts off on my bed and I carry him into his room when I’m ready to go to sleep but he’s only 15/16 kg so manageable to carry across .

Our rescue came crate trained then very recently we had issues

So DDog sleeps in her crate with the door open in my bedroom. It took 3 nights of me sending her back to her crate when she jumped onto the bed for her to "get" the rules.

She is allowed on our bed during the day etc but I sleep alone!!! She is only little but she wants to snuggle and she smells and her paws tickle!!!

My dog started downstairs but now comes up and sleeps on the bed. Wish I'd done it sooner. I love him to be there and he loves being there; it's instinctive for a dog to sleep like that. Let him stay.

redbig I mean the dog has two beds! She has a normal dog bed and an old double duvet near the window we folded up for her.

Yes I am!

I actively encourage my 50kg dog to sleep on the bed. He very rarely does it. He holds a grudge so only does it when he likes me. Otherwise, he will come and sit on me looking out of the window to know he needs to do his business and can't possibly hold it 😡

My previous 60kg dog would sleep on my legs and sometimos we would spoon. He was amazing and I miss him and the cuddling so much.

You can't let them do it if they take the piss tho.

Ooh no I love it when mine do! They sleep in their dog beds in our room, but my boy tends to wake up very early and he then lays across the end of our bed.

I really miss my old dog as he used to lay in between DH and I and snuggle. Was lovely in the winter.

I am a very doggy person though and mine have free rein to wander - apart from the kitchen, which is purely a safety concern as they tend to get under my feet when I'm cooking and I don't want to drop hot food on them.

Ours does and has done from day one!

I love it and it's great in winter when I use him as a hot water bottle

Yes we caved in around age of 2 and he's been here ever since. I love the lazy mornings when you get the doggy cuddles.

My small one (yorkie cross) has to sleep in her crate because she would wander around the house and scratch doors at night. My bigger one shares a double bed with DS. I love to have a nap snuggling with both of them in my bed or on the sofa during the day, nothing helps me sleep like sleepy dogs! I grew up with dogs that were allowed to sleep in our beds.

I don't allow mine in my bedroom. I have a dog gate across my bedroom door so she can still see and hear us, but not actually come in the room.
She has her own bedroom next to mine, complete with a double bed, but I'll often wake up to find her asleep on the landing directly outside my bedroom door.
I can't stand the thought of my dog being on my bed or sofa's etc.
However, each to their own

Our two sleep in their crates in the kitchen and quite often they put themselves to bed without being told! Before DD was born we used to occasionally let them on the bed ‘as a treat’. It was lovely to snuggle but they’d hog a lot of space and I’d get annoyed afterwards at the smell and dog hair everywhere. They never go upstairs now except for a bath, partly because we also have two cats and one of them doesn’t get on with one of the dogs.

We do now. My boy has dementia and he settles better, with less sun downing and less episodes when he's on my bed. We put 2 fleeces on top of the covers

I do but my dog is only 7kg and it's a big bed! Started off with great intentions to have him sleep downstairs but he got to 6 months old and cried so much it broke my heart. He's been on the bed ever since.
